WOW the sound of Trance from 2000. What's weird at the time this music was popular I couldn't stand that kind of dance music and would be annoyed at the main room always playing it... now I miss it and it instantly brings me back!
So I’m discovering this years later and it is still blowing me away. The synth/sounds is one thing but your talent is very amazing! I have old ‘80s synths like Juno-106 and Jupiter-6 but now I need this one! Thanks for still keeping this video on years later! Roland always had the most amazing machines - thank you Japanese engineers!
I bought the Juno 6 in around 2010 for £250 on ebay its was near mint I kept it for about a year or so, when I sold it i was amazed how much the price did increase it made £650 and their even much more now around £2,000 amazing stuff. The lack of midi was the reason I sold it, not into retro midi conversions.
I always wanted to have synaesthesia. But i don't. But i got a different thing. I can deconstruct musical tracks and songs into their elementary building blocks, separate them in my head and listen to each instrument solo. It's useful, but in no way rare among ppl who play an instrument or have talent for music. But synaesthesia would be nice too. Do the colours stay the same for certain sounds, or do they change with time? Does the colour change for example when filter is applied? I would imagine that slowly opening lowpass cutoff filter must make the colors brighter and vice versa, no?
@@flare242 The pitch can sometimes make the sound brighter or darker depending on if it's higher pitch or lower pitch but it always stays the same over time
I watch this video almost every day and it's awesome. I've owned this synthesizer for a few months now. But I still haven't gotten this mega-great sound to this day. Still, it's a great synth.
Roland engineers really know what they were doing. You feel the electricity coming from their product, it's literally an energy transfer between their fantastic product and you.
While I sort of understand why people thought the video could have been more of a general demo, I think you did a good job of demonstrating that it can sound good. Personally I like trance chords, and don't think this sounds cheesy at all.
I had this same synth and decided to sell it and go for the jp8080 modul instead because of its polyphony, and vocoda. You can get the exactly same super saw punchy power from the yamaha an1x which is most certainly a must have synthesizer the CS1X just don't cut it in comparison at all.
Grant, this video greatly influenced my decision to purchase the jp8000. You are amazing on this thing, bro. Keep playing whatever you can get your hands on!
woah...i have one of these on order from japan and just came across this video...pure gorgeousness 😎👌🏻 (and your warmup would be my best attempt at trying to play lol)
I love my JP-8000. When I write my will, I will make it say "Bury me with my JP in my casket." Seriously, it's that awesome of a synth if you love trance! :D
Can someone please explain to me how the sound is set? My JP-8000 doesn't sound that powerful to me. I have the first oscillator at LOWER and UPPER on SUPER SAW, MIX=127, DETUNE=100. The second oscillator at LOWER and UPPER to sawtooth RANGE=-12. How are the effects set here? Thanks in advance.
WOW, holy moly!!! you're talented ... you absolutely nailed it ... great, thanks for sharing (PS: I own a SH-201) and work on my primitive skills to get Trance Tunes over the speakers
Hey Grant... This is so fucking amazing... I listen to it almost every day, cuz its so relaxing and i rly love this synth... Just a fat and warm sound... A wall of sound, to say the least... Hopefully I can get one soon!
Hey ,amazing mate i have a roland jp8000 i buy it just for watching u i love trance ,i don't have any clue to use it how can i get this sounds u made anything ,thanks.
so if i want a modern version of this thing, is there anything ? talking about something that doesnt lose any of the sound quality obviously, but maybe some nice current features
i just came here from the new Gouryella track Ferry Corston posted. I read a comment mentioning this hardsynth... and you happen to play that song with it :)
Yeah, this syntheszer can do a lot more. I'm mainly using it for lead and pads for fusion groups I play with. It can capture they warm sound of 70s synths very well. This might be a inexpesive alternative to getting an Oberhiem
I lost my shit at the 6:21 mark. You played that song virtually flawless without the use of an arpeggiator. After watching this video, I must get myself a JP-8000
I really want one of these. Does it have a programmable arppegiator? Is it good at emulating Jupiter 8 sounds? I like music along the lines of Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails and Duran Duran. Also what do you have to record your video/audio. I've tried with my video camera and it's line in, and came up with great video but crappy audio.
Whoa thanks for demonstrating this classic trance sound!!!! Could you please share how you made some of these patches (e.g. the gouryella one)? Thank you!
(Wasn’t sure if the beginning tweaks you did in the first part of the video was how you arrived at the patch, or if it was a completely different preset)
+HTBLuVA you can look up the MIDI files for whatever song you want. then load them into a MIDI track on whatever DAW you use and it'll show the notes via the piano roll, assuming your DAW has a piano roll as most do. nonstop2k dot com is a good site for MIDI's, they have alot of trance songs and other genres. that's the method i used to learn to play some of my fav trance songs.
How do you set the supersaws range +1/-1 octave individually? You can just set the octave of the whole patch this way or? Great demonstration by the way!!!
What sound patch or preset are you using? If it is a sound you made, modified or edited what sound did you edit to start with to create the sound you are using?

the best synthesizer.
the trancesizer.
realfan91 Agreed!
I have synaesthesia and this sound is always so bright and nice to listen to, it’s bright yellow

Do you know what software to use with "propellerheads reason" to emulate this cool jp 8000 sound?
@@gizmo3033 t force alpha plus, serum,sylenth.
open the filter 😁😄
Although the supersaw was ubiquitous in trance music of days gone by, the sound just doesn't get old. Awesome.
@gridsleep lol
I find it pretty old-school. Think people would have trouble finding a place for it in modern pop.
@@leetly6386 why modern pop then?
@@leetly6386 are u joking XD. A lot of people use jp6k, also spire and stuff can emulate it!
@JO. L Never get old!!!!!!!!!!!
This one and access virus ti are the kings of trance
This is the exact video I was looking for! Thanks. Going to get me a JP 8080 now
Great video and beautiful patches! I may need to add one of these to my collection…
Please do this again in HD in 2022 (AMAZING!!!)
Agreed & and a few more vids like it.
Roland engineers really know what they were doing. You feel the electricity coming from their product, it's literally an energy transfer between their fantastic product and you.
I almost fell from the chair when it hit the 6:25 mark. XDD Nice performance! The original sound came from the Yamaha AN1x by the way. ;)

1 decade later countless accounts different homes no matter, I come back to this video daily to warm up.
Wow, Ferry Corsten and Tiesto, 1999 (Gouryella). Nice.
The ultimate trance synth ❤️
The Access Virus is better!
Really cool! JP's a really trance machine! Big hello from Russia! 👍🇷🇺
God the JP Supersaw is like, such an overused and cheesy thing but why does it still send shivers down my spine?
Now 13 years, still love it!
Just love this video now I found it...wish you would do some more..just awesome playing them trance classics 👍👍👍 and just love the camera position
While I sort of understand why people thought the video could have been more of a general demo, I think you did a good job of demonstrating that it can sound good. Personally I like trance chords, and don't think this sounds cheesy at all.
wow - I thought the "warmup" was actually the playing... then BOOM! lol... nice.
The ultimate trance machine.
So many epic trance tracks were made with this legend.

Basically late 90s trance right there. This was the machine that produced those iconic saw riffs.
This synth kills about every vst out there hands down no debate
This is a really inspiring video. Fantastic synth and a decent player. Top tunes chosen all round.
dude you killed it! love hearing you play
Grant, this video greatly influenced my decision to purchase the jp8000. You are amazing on this thing, bro. Keep playing whatever you can get your hands on!

You reminded me about a few tunes from the college days that I had forgotten!
Love it .I have one. Your an amazing plater well done.
great demo ,,, it's an old synth but a great synth,, thanks for sharing your passion,,,
Pretty sure I heard all these tunes on A State of Trance with AVB in a not-too-distance past life when trance was life. Awesome demo!
Very nice, wonderful.
Dear Grant! :) I am from Hungary. The Roland JP 8000 super instrunemt. Ever. My arranger keyboard Roland EM-25H.
Wow! Fantastic synth! And playing.
What a machine! Singlehandedly created the genre!
beautiful, absolutely beautiful
The sound of the 90's trance magic.
So gritty so beautiful demo. Sounds like William Orbit.
Just epic song. Thank You!
beautiful
I love my JP-8000. When I write my will, I will make it say "Bury me with my JP in my casket."
Seriously, it's that awesome of a synth if you love trance! :D
outstanding machine. the sounds of god.
Nice demo, a little groove box and you re done!
I expected to hear a trance demo of something like Gouryella in this. haha. You absolute legend. I seriously expected that. :)

jp8000 or jp8080 is my fav!
youre a really good player.
nice vid!
nice sound!
thanks so much.

Gość po prostu wymiata :)
Nice demonstration of the JP8000's iconic supersaw wave. :)
Still awesome 8 years later!
Recently imported one of these but the parameters are rather complex. Nobody seems to have any patch guides available. Any tips?
Haha Lorenzo Senni brought me here. I was not disappointed :D
Brilliant. I have one too. You can make that thing sing Bro. wonderful.

Can anyone tell me what the patch is that's used as the main riff for Ayla (DJ Taucher remix)?

Virus ti is till in production or nord lead
Great performance mate
Demonstration of trance the style he likes best played on the JP8000 , would have loved to have heard what other sounds it could do.
i just came here from the new Gouryella track Ferry Corston posted. I read a comment mentioning this hardsynth... and you happen to play that song with it :)
Very similar sounding patches. Is only good for trance yes?
i think he uses one sound patch and just plays different melodies man
Yeah, this syntheszer can do a lot more. I'm mainly using it for lead and pads for fusion groups I play with. It can capture they warm sound of 70s synths very well. This might be a inexpesive alternative to getting an Oberhiem

Best trance machine ever.

do you know a source to get chords for classic trance tracks or is playing by "hearing the chords" the only way?

Nice demos grant - I've posted an access virus C video response for the supersaw sound.
Couldn't you use the arpeggiator for gueriella?
Thanx, I'll try to play these themes

Is there anyway to make a bass line come out of that thing though?😂
