Good job on explaining this. I am in process of rebuilding one that was sitting outside for 20+ years and just severely rusted out. When l was taking the valve springs and valves out there wasn’t any valve stem seals present. Did these engines come with seals or do did they just disintegrate from sitting? Thank you
I have a ?? will the alternator 3 wire stator from a Wisc. VG4d work on a VH4d ? the VH4d has 2 wire coming from it . if so what do you do with the extra wire?
Idler gear bushing would have been a part number HG279 which is no longer available from Wisconsin motors. May still be able to find a complete idler gear with bushing or if you have luck removing your old one a local bearing supplier may be able to measure it and supply one.
Hey nice video! You seem to know a lot about these engine! I just got a skidsteer and I put a new distributor in it and wires and plugs and rough timed 1 on top dead center to 1 on the distributor but when I turn it over all I get is back fires threw the carb. Any idea on what I could do to get this thing running? Also the fuel mixture screw on the carb was tampered with. What should I set the fuel mixture screw at roughly to get it running then fine tune it? Thanks any help is appreciated
Standing in front of the engine flywheel side, number 1 is in the lefthand bank of cylinders nearest the flywheel, 3 is just behind, then on the righthand side is 2 nearest the flywheel then 4 just behind. The firing order is 1-3-4-2. If in fact you have a distributor,(not a magneto) then the distributor rotor button rotates COUNTERclockwise inside the distributor. Keep this in mind when installing the wires on the cap. Sounds like this is the issue. Once its statically timed and runs the timing MUST be set with an automotive type timing light. (video to come). Preliminary air adjustment screw setting is 1 1/4 turns out. Let me know if I can be of further help.
Darrell, On the number 3 exhaust port, what is the little nub that sticks out called? I'm trying to find that part and cannot name it. Its where the governor spring hooks to.
Thank you for being straight forward. I get tired of people bumbling along for twenty minutes to find out they didn’t know anything.

No valve stem seals
@@eqsmanager Thank you
This brings back memories
Can you get to the valves with the manifold on?
No - easier to remove- also a good time to replace manifold gaskets etc.

Nice vid on an old motor. Doing an idler gear bushing on my vh4d - not easy to find.

@@eqsmanager would love to see the timing video you mentioned here. thanks for this content, it's good stuff.
It looks like you had the scylinders bored and new pistons. Where did you find engine parts?
1981FlyingV I am a dealer, call 800-632-1373 ask for me (Darrell), If unavailable at the time leave me a voice mail. I will call you back...Thanks

@@eqsmanager where are you located? Do you do rebuilds?
