I learned English since I was seven, and our group started with phonetics. Later, in University my English program also started with phonetics, not with spelling and grammar. And I believe that it was the right way to learn foreign language for all people. IPA or other phonetic alphabets are extremely useful and important tools to provide good basis for further learning process and communication in real life.
Hi Nelle, thank you so much for your videos and sharing your journey with us all. I have SSHL in my left ear that occurred overnight in early August and I am being assessed for a Cochlear implant. I will then be bimodal with a hearing aid in the right ear syncing with the CI in the left. I have been thinking of sign language. When I was in high school (back in the early 1970s! Yes, I am getting old!) one of our teachers taught us the IPA phonetic alphabet. I have no idea why, but I recall we had a lot of fun in class that year communicating silently! I have never forgotten the alphabet and I am looking into learning all of this as a new language. Thank you for being such an inspiration 🤩
Hi, good luck with your CI journey. I think learning a new language is always a good idea (I know I'm a bit biased). Since hearing loss is one of the biggest modifiable risk factors for dementia, I think making sure that I continue learning and have full access to communication is something really important to me. So basically, I really recommend learning Sign Language for everyone, especially people with hearing loss.
Hi nelle💐am glad you pulled that last video,I and others were glad to help to keep you safe, that was another interesting video! I have a bit of news, last weekend guy's hospital implant department sent me a 3 section questionnaire to fill in about my hearing loss & medical history, this was after audiology referred me to guy's implant centre for a cochlear implant! I am just waiting to hear back from them for a face to face assessment! I have been watching your old videos about your cochlear implant journey which has helped a lot! The travelling is my only worry! I got new hearing aids but it's back to the big 675 batteries again! On Wednesday the 25th October I will be getting my new pink with gold glitter earmoulds which I hope will stand out as I am proud to be deaf! 😊Well done with reaching 10K for your 2nd implant hopefully next year you will get the other ear implanted! 💗💗🌈🌈
