Nice review but may I add one thing: river cruise ships in Burgundy mostly travel at night, so that $1000 more you pay for the balcony won't be that much use. Also consider that when in port, river boats are often triple docked, so you'll have a nice view within arms reach of the boat next to you. All things to consider when river cruising.
You are correct on on both points. However most of the river cruise lines will have at least one or two days daytime cruising on the most scenic parts of the rivers. Also at night there can be some stunning light shows as you pass by some of the towns and cities. As for the the triple of double docking or what we call rafting, is one really going to be hanging around in your stateroom while in port? Thanks for the comment.
