Steven Isserlis cello Connie Shih piano Camille Saint-Saëns Le carnaval des animaux Le Cygne This piece was performed as an encore to a recital on Thursday 16 December 2021 7:30PM.
Le Cygne is probably one of the most well known pieces written for cello and yet what he is able to do with it is exceptional. The fluidity of his phrases and the way he builds the tension and holds out the phrase until the very end is just absolutely exquisite. I had the pleasure to see him play in a recital at my college and I was also able to speak with him back stage. Truly an inspiration to me and a performance I will never forget . . .

He plays it fairly soft.
Gut strings
It's the audio from the broadcast... it's low... but yes, he plays it with great sensitivity!!
