This is some really great advice. I'm a US citizen but living in Canada. My parents are no where near hopefully passing away or anything but very important to think about. I'm one of 3 siblings. I know my parents have a will but don't know what is in it.
The house is paid for. If anything happened, I would prefer to sell the house but one sibling currently lives there and might not make it well on their own. If they can afford the upkeep/taxes, I'd actually prefer them to stay there if that is the best option. We will have to approach that with together as siblings to discuss our thoughts and see what my parents have in mind in their will.

Yes, you need to clear that up now because it’s gonna be very hard to get your brother out of the house.
They’re two ways to do it one. Have him stay there as a renter and just have him pay you market value rent and while he’s living there, the value of the home should come up for all three of you. The second way is for him to not pay any rent, but to pay for all the expenses and upkeep for the property and when you go to sell it , you would deduct from his share market value rent for as long as he lived there. The expenses would be shared by all 3 of you. It’s definitely a touchy situation but one that you should address now.

@@CardanoRealtors yeah, we all have a good relationship now and I think reasonably could come to a solution. My thoughts would be to sell the house and he could use his portion to live in a much smaller space like an apartment/condo or smaller home. The will does make it tricky though. lol We will have to discuss that. It feels like a weird conversation to have but I think it should be shared.
