One of the greatest in his art. Darren Aronofsky create anxiety without not so much bloodshed and gore but with editing, acting, score and cinematography. his art is near to perfection.
@@drewsy It's really not😂It's one of the most split films I've seen. 50% of people hate it. 50% love it. So u can't call it overrated when that's the case.
I feel ashamed because it took me way too long into the movie to realize it’s a metaphor. But it’s so fun hearing interpretations and other people’s thoughts. The movie was made to create a conversation and it succeeded immensely
I loved Mother! as much as I've loved most of Darrens previous films ( Im not a fan of Wrestler) and is clear how immerse was Darren in the whole production of this film. Its one of a kind filmmaker nowadays which isn't really giving us the kind of movies we are expecting to see but gift us the emotions and awareness of a superior thought about things like love, madness and ambition.
I really liked mother! but I can't help but feel odd about watching this. Aronofsky is the antithesis of David Lynch in the sense that Lynch would refuse to answer any of these questions, make jokes, give non sequitur answers and essentially tell the audience to watch the film for themselves and take away from it what they will. Aronofsky straight up tells people what he intended while wearing a scarf... I must say it added nothing to the film for me...
I really hope they eventually release the score, especially considering Jóhann Jóhannsson's tragic death. I'd also adore hearing his unused Blade Runner 2049 score.
I needed this video!! My flatmates and I were so confused coming out of this. Clues in the credits, I'm disappointed that I didn't sit through them so I might have figured it out myself!
Just got here from RedLetterMedia. I have to wonder...when a movie director or actor is dressing to go to a film festival or a press event and he reaches into his closet or whatever and grabs a scarf...does he ever stop or think it over? Like it reinforces the stereotype of the pretentious artist auteur that's kinda full of it? "Eh, maybe I'll take this off when I arrive."
Just my opinion here - so many ways to interpret this brilliant work of art. I think it symbolizes creation and life. In the film, it is found literally in the heart of the "wife" or more accurately, mother earth, it is the impetus for creation (whether of the artist or god). Creation gives life, and life gives creation and these are never ending cycles. Literally or symbolically, it (the crystal) never dies and thus survived the fire, just like the soul also survives physical death. Crystals are an inherent energy source that the earth uses and that energy is life. I thought this movie was beyond brilliant - like his other masterpieces, can be taken to be so many different stories, but one central meaning.
The crystal is also, to some degree, a representation of the Tree of Knowledge from the Bible. When Man (Adam) and Woman (Eve) arrive at the house, Woman goes to see it first, and then both Man and Woman look at it and then shatter them, causing Him (God) to banish them from his study room (the Garden of Eden).
Darren aronofsky made an esoteric movie based on the Bible yet his only giving you the exoteric meaning of the movie mother. Through studying the ocult, alchemy, freemasonry, mystery schools etc I can assure you this movie was created to conjure up a sertain character of the creator opposite to what He claims to be in the scripture
i couldnt understand what he was going to let us understand or what he thinks of what we could understand,he is not that type of directors, that messes so much with your mind,i mean he had his own personal style of making movies but this no...completly different.
It obviously has the biblical imagery. But I also think them two fighting can represent a war between countries and where one of them is killed is like a spot of land that's permanently damaged from them fighting.
Darren, since when You are Alex from Brooklyn wanting to get married to my sister, from 30 fcking yrs ago??? Anyu, why did not spot it ??? Harrrghhh Björn wtf!!!
unless hes a hypocrite. im not sure... is bardem a failed petty god, or is bardem a devil who wants to be god, wants to repeat gods plan, has seduced mother, fails miserably, but like a lunatic keeps trying again. in noah, it was a thematic point that god was absent from the world of men. he just watches. if bardem is god, that contradicts that. i dunno...
"I don't think there's anything in there that isn't in your daily newspaper..." Really? Like a mob taring apart a baby and eating it in front of its mother?
I’m campaigning for this two hour cavalcade of dross to be taken off of Netflix. Or at least to be re-classified in an ‘art house wank’ category so that people like myself who work long hours for a living won’t have their meagre leisure time stolen by some pseudo-intellectual, k-mart auteur.
Marco Cardoni Depends what you call art. I’m sure there are many pornographers who will scream censorship in order to defend their ‘artistic’ offerings.
stevieg667 lol what’s wrong with that? Maybe the pornography is art! Alan Moore calls his graphic novel series Lost Girls both pornography and art. It honestly depends what it is trying to do 🤷🏻♂️
Marco Cardoni As tactfully as it is possible to say. It depends on the manner of pornography. My point being that you can’t yell something as a shibboleth and expect it to be inviolable to interrogation.
stevieg667 yeah exactly, not saying it all is, obviously but I get you, perhaps it was marketed wrong. I personally like films like this though, that don’t just tell a regular story, but to each their own. That’s my reasoning. Not everybody has to like a piece of cinema and Aronofsky has even said, he’d prefer his film to be hated than forgotten/given a meh reaction
This is the most blasphemous film I've ever seen made by a jerk. It cheapens the Bible and it's characters and meaning by implying God is an egotistical ...bad husband who is indifferent to Mother Earth. God created all things and is in all things. HE/SHE suffers with us and cries for us when we abuse each other and the environment. The New World Order which will be established under the Second Coming of the Messiah will restore order and justice to the Universe. I guess Darren didn't read that far.....TW
But what's wrong with just telling a story without all the head spin....abrasct?? Leave that for paintings and picasso...you dont need that, creatively, us movie buffs just want a good story line, start to finish! You ain't more creative because you leave people with a head spin... get back to the basics!!!
not the point. Movie making is a way for people to express themselves as Darren said, movie making comes from the heart. Aronofsky is a celebrated director and his work is always heavily praised. Sometimes it's good to have a movie where you aren't spoon fed a story line and makes us think and interpret what the movie wants to say. Don't say, 'get back to basic!!!!' you just have to broaden your horizons and allow yourself to enjoy a movie that may not have a solid ending. I can also say I am a movie buff and I think this movie is fantastic, it really shows how versatile Aronofsky is as a director and if you can't see that then I am not sure what to tell you...
Soeak for yourself - I found it a pretty straightforward adaptation of the Bible for the most part and I really do enjoy a challenge. What’s the point of just reinforcing the same ideas of story over and over again? Challenging you and broadening your horizons are the best things that art (which includes cinema and literature) can do! Basically, I agree with what the guy above said 😂

Incorrect.. he uses gore, jump scares all the time.
@@drewsy There's barely any gore or jumpscares in this. The gore comes right at the end, once the audience is already super tense and anxious.

It’s an allegory about the writing process
what wont he answer! omg i wish i heard the question
"whats mother drinking?" a reviewer points it out in another video. im obsessed with this movie...
Question was: "What does Bill Murray whisper in Scarlett Johanson's ear at the end of Lost in Translation?". Darren won't tell.
It's "SOL"... The Gnostic revelation would trigger many Funny-Mentalist X-fans, which I believe DA was refraining himself from answering it...
