Reading the apocraphal Gospel of Nicodemus is something i am adding to my Easter Celebration this year. It contains an account of Christ going to the Spirit world and freeing the captives during the time when His body was in the tomb. This portion was recorded by 2 sons of the holy man Simeon who held Jesus as a baby in the temple. They were well known and respected and had died and been buried by people like Ciaphus and Nicodemus, so imagine the surprise when they showed up as resurrected beings after Christ's crucifixtion. These 2 sons were in spirit prison along with every other person who had previously died. When John the Baptist was killed, he preached in the Spirit world to prepare the way for Christ to come there and free the captives. The other ancient prophets preached the messages that they gave while on earth. Then Christ comes and breaks the bands of death. It is one of the coolest apocraphal texts i have come across.
th-cam.com/video/sFCuk-L8vjY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=z2uEFNcqjnHGAkIh Here is a link to my favorite reading of the Gospel of Nicodemus. It is read by Christopher Glyn. Another obscure apocryhal text that I have really enjoyed is one of the dead sea scrolls called "The Scrolls of Melchizedek." I have only ever found a couple versions on TH-cam and both had poor sound quality, but the content was so amazing that I didn't even care. The last one I will mention is called "The Writings of Abraham." It is a psudoapocraphal text, and when I listen to it, it feels like the rest of the book of Abraham in the Pearl of Great Price. I am not sure where it came from, but it felt like good fruit.
That week is the week my family and I are going to Disney world and I’m so saddened that I won’t be able to truly celebrate Easter and that week then General Conference then the Eclipse but I’m determined to do my best to keep the Spirit and listen to conference as much as possible.
Our ward is inviting all those in our geographical area, less active, non-members included to decorate their front door with their favorite name or title of Christ.
This is Wednesday for me. But I love your videos! And I agree with you. We need to use Palm Sunday and Holy Week as a means to worship and to look to Jesus Christ's triumphant return! I grew up following Lent and Holy Week and even though I didn't understand much of it, I always loved celebrating Jesus. And of course, the music! Thanks for your ideas and for your video. It's a bright, much needed light in the world today.
I have often wondered the same about our church not saying much about the Easter celebration. I’m so happy they’ve begun saying more. I love your ideas of using these boxes and all the ways you tied in the traditional Easter symbols to the story of the Holy Week and resurrection. I am going to present the idea of making the boxes to our RS night activity leader! If we make them I’ll send pics!!!!🌷🐰✝️
I think this movement closer to the worship practices of other Christian churches is a good thing, but also surprising to me, since when I was younger we took such pride in being a "peculiar people" who did things differently than other Christians.
When we think of the word peculiar we often think “different” but that’s not exactly what it means scripturally. When President Nelson was an apostle he explained that it meant “valued treasure chosen/selected by God”. How would worshipping and honoring the Savior even more make us less peculiar?? Especially in this world that is turning ever more away from the Savior. We are still a peculiar people. And I believe that those Christians not of our faith who try their best with the knowledge they have can also be a peculiar people.
I hope we will always be peculiar in our commitment to Christ, ways we worship, serve, keep the commandments, and love. We can each recognize Easter and Holy Week in unique ways... it's the act of remembering and honoring Christ's life that matters. So many different and "peculiar" ways each family can do this
Thank you for sharing all of these fabulous ideas! ❤ I listened to this while getting ready for my day. But, you have shared so many wonderful ideas... I plan to listen again and take notes about the many resources and ideas you have shared here so I can share them with my family. 🐣

@@christianfirepoppy 🫒🕊️ Thank you, for all of your Spiritually Informative Videos! 🕊️🫒 Historically the reason for the Colored Easter Eggs 🥚 Is that Mary Magdalene told the Governor that Jesus had been Resurrected, while she was holding a basket full of Eggs. What will we do about the Good Friday problem given us by the Catholics. The crucifixion could not have occurred on Friday. It had to have been Wednesday.
Pretty much all of Holy Week is inaccurate. I don't know all of the timeline, but Palm Sunday probably took place in the fall at the time of Sukkot/Feast of Tabernacles. And, yes, He was crucified on a Wednesday. There's a great video on TH-cam that explains how that was the actual day.
It can get pretty hairy if you try to get super rigid about celebrating on the exact days... there is alot of conflicting info out there. Follow the spirit and the remembering, heart, worship aspect is most important. Sometimes when our schedule gets crazy we have to lump days together or push it into the next. You can always discuss the actual order of events in Christ's life even if you can't mimick it perfectly in the actual days of the week. But yeah I hear ya..
Back in the 1980s I called Easter.. Resurrection Commemoration Celebration! I always hated to call it Easter.. knowing it was named after a pagan god/holiday of fertility.. hence chicks and rabbits who so quickly reproduce. My children always thought I was so funny. I always did things to remember our dear Lords perfect work. In their baskets I always put a 5x7 framed gospel art print. To be hung in their rooms to remind them of Gods perfect son and His perfect life work. They still display those beautiful framed prints in their homes today! Loved your ideas. But especially the greeting, “HE IS RISEN”. Thank you
I love the Easter box’s idea. We usually do the 12 empty eggs of Easter, which is basically the same concept. Thanks for the reminder, and for sharing. I’m really excited for Passover week now.

I really like what you are saying Yet I wish you had encouraged us to forgo or eliminate our pagan images of bunnies and eggs and chicks it seems to me that this is how the adversary has highjacked Easter
I hear you. If the spirit pushes you in that direction then by all means. I view symbols as being what we make of them. I think about how all things testify of Christ including all his beautiful creations: animals, plants, etc. Satan has tried to hijack EVERY symbol for evil. We are told in scripture the rainbow is a token of a covenant yet the world makes us think it is something else. We hold the power to create and link meaning to Jesus Christ through symbols. But I totally respect the opinion of those who don't like certain things that were linked to paganism in the past... if that's what comes to mind for you then maybe best to jettison it.
I was sitting here, wondering why a bunny was chosen to represent Easter, and had a thought. Rabbits are highly reproductive, frequently giving birth to new life. We could liken that to frequent repentance. It's baptism, but without the wetness... unless you cry. 😉
I love your celbration ideas, but I am very confused. We have never celebrated good Friday in the Lds culture and thought it was just because Christians had the day wrong. In Matthew 12:39,40 Jesus says the son of Man must be in the earth for 3 nights and 3 days. Joseph Smith corrected verses 37 and 38 but did not touch 39 & 40, so I assume that he felt they were correct. I know that many scholars feel that 3 days can be partial days. But if he was killed on Friday then Friday is day and night #1, and Saturday #2 and Sunday day 3. But where is the 3rd night? But I see that the church believes that Friday is the day he was killed. So, either Joseph Smith missed this error, or the church has the day wrong. I am pretty sure that I know how to count to 3 and I know the Jewish definition of night and day. Is there something that I am missing?
I think it's one of those things that there are so many differing views it gets really confusing. And I think it's most important to remember the events and honor them. I personally don't mind celebrating something a day of two before... so I take a flexible approach. But if you are a person that wants to be exact with the day you celebrate and exactly what happened then go for it! I do know what you are saying... the good Friday thing is a mess and I don't think the timing is right but I don't get too pharisaical about having to celebrate it on the exact day in an exact manner. The biggest shame is that all the confusion has led many to ignore holy week completely.
I love the idea of the boxes…however you lost me at bunny… I raise them… they aren’t a good symbol of families…😅 the moms will eat their babies… there’s nothing like opening their hutch and having to clean up left over heads and bloody wire😩 not to mention they don’t cuddle or stay with their babies at all. They come and hover over their babies for 5 mins morning and night to nurse and the rest of the time leave them alone… they hover becasue only the ones that are strong enough to jump up to latch survive. If one falls out of the nest it dies as the mom doesn’t have the ability to pick them up and put them back. And if they smell a predator around they abandon them to save herself. At 4 weeks they leave them and have another litter in a different place as the day after having them they go get pregnant again… and thus they can have litters every 30 days… so I have to keep them in separates cages . Basically to me rabbits are a better representation of the whore of the earth. 😂…. Very bad examples of family’s😏 from my experience … so I’ll choose a different representation for that box😅 I just can’t do bunnies 🤔 and come to think of it maybe bunnies at Easter are actually the devils way of putting subliminal messages into our subconscious 🤷♀️ as they really have nothing to do with the holiday at all… they are just cute and fluffy😉. Well mine are😏… they are angora. I breed them for wool and spin their fibre. 😀 I love them…. But not for Easter😁
😂To each their own when it comes to symbolism. I see them as Christ's cute creations and our family loves alot of books centered around families of bunnies. We don't go overboard though and we don't do the real Easter bunny thing...we tell the kids the baskets are from their parents. 😂
Always look forward to your videos. I am determined to make this coming Holy Week more meaningful for my family! 🤍 I used to think those were holidays for other religions but this past year and your videos have given me new insight.

@@christianfirepoppyThat’s interesting…now I’m curious to know what you do for Christmas. And do they get a gift from “Santa”?
Always look forward to your videos. I am determined to make this coming Holy Week more meaningful for my family! 🤍 I used to think those were holidays for other religions but this past year and your videos have given me new insight.
Love that! Let me know how it goes!
