I've met Joel and Max a few times and both are real nice guys. Sarah is also nice, posing for pics and giving autographs. Max shared a few Bajo Sexto tips, very great people to represent TEJANOS!!
"Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata" a bunch of accordion master hopefuls that wished they had the musical talent and education Joel has! When those players can combine the different styles and genres that Joel does in one song then they are masters but until I've seen it well congratulations on being second best!
Secondly, when Vela, Perez and Ayala can prove they can go outside of their genre like Mr. Guzman can combine the many styles and genres of accordion playing from across the world into their recordings and performances, then you'll have a real argument. Until then just sit back and watch and listen how accordion is being played!
Karlitos-Is this fool joking? Style doesn't come from your background? Last time I checked my style of bass guitar playing came from one of my uncles and some of the greats that have blessed my ears with such great sounds. But I guess "Professor Style" knows what that is better than I do? Peace, dj KALAMBRE Olympia,WA
First off, his music isn't americanized. Because if you knew anything about Mr. Guzman or was a fan of his, all of his recordings have brought the many styles of accordion playing that he has learned to those albums and some recordings have paid tribute to the tejano accordionist before him.
it's called being a great musician and showman and that his so called "playing around" shows that he doesn't want to be considered another lame accordion player like so many out there and he wants his fans to enjoy what he gives them every time he steps onto stage and performs. It's obvious to me you've never seen a full performance?
this guy does show off too much. plus his music is too americanized. and hes not all that great in the accordion. i want him to go up against the real gods of the accordion RUBEN VELA, GILBERTO PEREZ, RAMON AYALA

style doesnt come from your background, it comes from the music you play and the way you carry yourself while playing it.
You know; I'd like to see a "VALLENATO MASTER" try to interpret a polka the way Bernal did it or the way Oskar Hndz and Esteban Jordan do it.
Id pick Joel... sorry. and the fact that he is americanized is what I really like.
Pleas ,don't be exaggerated, the true Acordeon Masters, are in the "Festival de la leyenda Vallenata", eventhough this man has a great thecnic.
