I reminded her she was the one who moved out and walked away from our 18 year marriage and then thanked her for helping me realize how miserable she made me.

Women, the partnerless, childless (or single-mommy-ing), working corporate women-jobs variety of 'em, in their late thirties, through their forties, and fifties, are the demographic bracket with the by far most fancy overpriced prescription drugs against foul female moods taken.
"Yes, agreed, but what about the men?" Men might drink, or end themselves, statistically more often, or "in significant numbers", after a divorce the (ex-) wife had initiated, and had then subsequently used to get half of what he ever worked for, inherited, and built, to that point of time, plus mercilessly estranging his kids and still keeping half of his future income.
Both developments are a very saddening, direct consequence of fem Inism and its cruel, toxic, misandrist fallout against traditional families and children. Fem Inism is a helluva pestilence.

I'll never understand why so many women get in front of a camera, and record themselves crying about the mistakes they've made, and are taking no responsibility for. When, will people get that life is not about being happy? Marriage is not about "being happy". It's for family, and you take care of each other, the children, make memories to be looked back on, and one day, when you're much older, it all creates something called contentment. "Happy" is for children thinking Santa Claus has visited, or when you watch your child learn something new. "Happy" is a snapshot in time, that lasts minutes.
It's way past time, for us to bring back shame for stupid, or degenerate behavior.

From what you've said, I'm living a non-life, a pointless existence and shouldn't be happy and that what I'm doing with my life is childish.
I'm not really of the opinion that we're here simply to reproduce. A cycle of people, making people, making people. Why procreate, bring a life in the world not to know happiness but to just replicate?
That's YOUR life, and YOUR opinion, and that's fine. Each to their own. But you can't reduce another person's life to a childish, selfish existence because they haven't followed the same path.
I am aware that, once a person has had a child that that's generally the conclusion they come to. One life ends and another begins. But it doesn't make you a more valid person.
I have a career that brings me happiness by way of improving and in some cases saving a person's life. To me, that isn't childish or irrelevant. Would you say that if it was your child or your partner who's cancer I eliminated?
      Probably not.

@@timesthree5757the difference is a guy giving up and just not trying to get women will just live for himself without actively trying to make others miserable.
Not to mention that as a man if you do work on yourself you can get successful and you can get women to come your way without you trying.
In high school i chased after 2 girls i liked and neither ever gave me a chance. In college i realized how much of an idiot i was trying to play nice and respectful to them so i actively forced myself in being rude or uncaring. By the time 1st year of college was over i basically slept with over 40 of the year 1 girls that were in the same year with me.
As time passed i realized how shallow and meaningless that whole thing was and stopped giving a fuck about relationships alltogether, if the right person happens to come my way perfect, if not im perfectly happy as i am. Not to mention not having to spend on a woman generally makes you have 3-4 times more expandable money as a man.

I believe the problem is there are so many kids raised by divorced parents that there is no one to teach them how and where the happiness is in marriage. Yeah, there are times that will push you to the limit, but learning good communication skills from a licensed therapist is essential for most people. My wife and I have had very tough times, but never had better times than with each other in our marriage. I would never give up our marriage for anything, absolutely nothing. There is no tropical island or pyramid you can stand in front of taking pics "living your best life" that will ever compare to the fun, laughter, and love I feel sitting around the house doing 'learn to draw' videos or playing cards with my family.

From bitter experience, I learned to stop feeling sorry for my self and honor the wonderful marriage we had by choosing to feel happy. I've owned two thirty six foot sailboats, two Harley's, and had a lot of interesting times. I made jokes with the ambulance attendants while on the way to a trauma hospital after a head on wreck - laughter is the best medicine. I have learned to never hear myself say "I'll be happy if, or I'll be happy when", because that creates the opposite. In fact, I feel so good I'd pay 5 dollars for a headache!

I will simply put it as, "that's none of my concern, if you stuck with me it would never have been an issue in the first place, that's your problem to deal with not mine" in a nutshell "build a bridge and get over it".
I've dated exes and people who've turned me down in the past.
For one, I look down on all my past selves because I'm always improving, I'm a better me than ever before, and I wouldn't want to date the person I was 10 years ago.
That said, I wouldn't have traumatized them thenway some of their exes did, and so I'm not going to pay the penalty by changing who I am to compensate for it.
A past version of myself would've, and trust me, it's not worth it.
You do you, be who you are enjoy what you enjoy, if she wants to be in your life she'll find a way to push past her problems that are holding her back.
