Enjoyed this very genuine and open interview! Major props to Sarah for finally facing all that scary debt. I think medical life bombs are one of the worst things in existence. You can literally hear the relief in her voice when she talks about taking back control. Definitely staying tuned for more of these.
Such a beautiful comeback to YNAB. When life knocks you down YNAB can be there to give you a hand at getting control back again. Yay for Sarah. Hopefully the health issues are stable or even improving.
When this happens, the trick is to constantly remind yourself YOU DID IT! You saved for a rainy day and when the rain came, it didn't destroy your ENTIRE LIFE! Now you just have to do it again, KNOWING that you CAN do it again! And every time you put a little money aside, THANK YOURSELF and BE PROUD that you're protecting yourself, and your family. A little self-reflection & congratulation really does go a long way to beat back the frustration.
7:57 _"I would go so long that I would have to manually enter transactions for, like 45 minutes to an hour to catch up."_ A wholesome hour of character-building transaction-entering honest work! You should be thanking the finance gods for having a full hour of transactions to manually enter, kid! Once you start reconciling everyday it quickly dwindles to a trickle and all but disappears, your transaction flow. Some folks even start making small purchases here and there just to get some action on their registers! Back in the day we used to walk five miles barefoot in the snow to the store just to make a transaction, and five miles back home just to enter it on YNAB!!
The clarity YNAB gives me has been the biggest stress-reducer regarding my relationship with money

I went from earning the most money in my life during / shortly after the pandemic to poverty. The economy has been horrible for 3 years.
