I don't understand the point of generating a lot of negative sentiment from Canadians by striking over Christmas. Sure, it gets people's attention, but when the reaction is anger, not sympathy, you've only damaged your cause.

The timing of the strike was calculated to cause the most disruption possible so that the union could get what they want. Canada Post is a failing business that is losing money. Their workers complete their routes, oftentimes, in half of their allotted working day then sit on their asses at home. Canada Post created a bad business model and overpaid their employees for half the work. Sure, argue you need to increase their salaries and benefits. In doing so, you’ll have no choice but to lay off half the workers which is what they should do anyhow. Blame goes to parties IMO.

Considering Canada post is a crown corporation, they ought to be ordered back to work. This is in the category of being a critical government service. Regardless of if they are losing money, or provide less than ideal service. the fact is that taxpayers foot the bill for a reliable ongoing postal services and letter mail services which many buisnesss rely upon. This has caused so much disruption, delays, and costs as to be absurd.
And guess what, EVERYONE is feeling the crunch right now. The buying power of the Canadian dollar is tanking due to government policies and no one is unscathed. All the unions are doing the same thing, ultimatums just to make ends meet.
The solution isn't printing more money, it's making more stuff to bring prices down, and we need the government to get out of the damned way.

@@00J3553 Let me set you straight. In 2023, Canada Post reported a loss before tax of $748 million, an increase from the $548 million loss in 2022.
This decline was attributed to intensified competition in the parcel delivery market, ongoing reductions in Transaction Mail volumes, and rising operational costs. From 2018 to 2023, Canada Post accumulated total losses before tax amounting to $3 billion.
This means that the $3 billion in losses was covered by taxpayers, effectively making the funds spent by postal workers taxpayer money.

This is a disgrace to me that our mail can be held up, I saw on the News that a family put their father's ashes in the mail and promises made to be sent to Ontario and bingo, strike, so this man's ashes are stuck in with millions of boxes, I know how I would feel if that was my loved one. It was a case of have to do it that way. My bills are all tied up. I like making certain donations to charities this time of year to buy food and presents for those who need it. I can't do that without the mail so it's nothing short of a disgrace to me that they were not ordered back to work even Dec. lst.
