I won't deny it; I'm genuinely thrilled about a new 暁Records PV. All their latest PV's have been so good with outstanding art and production values. I also really like that they are translated, since the lyrics are enjoyable too (shoutout to Tsubasa Cat).

A million YT views is around US$5000 to 7,000, which isn't much considering the cost of video editing, artists, sound studio etc. Since no one buys cd's outside Japan, there must be practically no money generated by secondary sales either.

While they the distributors take a cut, surely they make a non-insignificant amount of sales through those with their fanbase (looking at the comments) seem to be a lot of westerners. Though they only accessible through certain regions' stores as in CA for example, there are barely any circle selling their Touhou albums. Side tangent aside, it really doesn't make a whole lot of sense to lavishly spend on a PV anyway. As you said, making them is expensive considering all the parts needed, and it wouldn't make sense to spend more on a promotion than they'll potentially make in sales.
