Pentatonix is an Acapella group. They make all the sounds with their voices. Once in a while they use real instruments for example the beat boxer plays the cello in a couple of videos. Avi is the bass (low male voice with beard) in this video, Scott is a baritone with a wide range (blonde hair), Mitch (in the hat) is a tenor, Kirstie is the soprano, and Kevin is the beat boxer/drummer when he sings, he sings tenor. A simple introduction to Pentatonix. I hope you do more.

Yeah, it's both comical and annoying when "Hallelujah" turns up on Christmas albums. Cohen trained as a rabbi, and used biblical imagery all the time...but never wrote a religious song!
Absolutely right that it's not a Gospel song. I might be the only person on the planet who gets annoyed about this song. I agree it's got a nice melody and it's very sing-able, but the words are basically ridiculous. It paints King David as the victim and Bathsheba as the aggressor, when it was actually the opposite. Cohen even makes irrelevant allusion to Samson and Delilah with the "cutting hair" thing. Just a mish-mash of Bible references that impresses people simply because of the praise-word Hallelujah.
The 3 parts of a choir are soprano, alto and tenor. The deeper voice is either a baritone or bass. Please listen to Mary Did You Know by them. It’s soooo good.

I've seen The Pentatonix twice. They never give a bad performance. I absolutely love them. You need to listen to everything they've done. Their evolution had been amazing.
‘Halleluyah’ means Praise Yah, the Creator...and the lyrics are referencing biblical accounts of Samson and Delilah (‘tied to the chair, cut hair’) and King David and Bathsheba (‘saw her bathing on the roof’)...this song is referencing religious stories found in the Bible.
Definitely not a church song. A wonderful song but not a praise/worship song. Lots of Biblical references but it’s not a song that’s actually about God.
In order of vocal range, from highest to lowest: Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Baritone, Bass, also a Contrabass (which Avi is BTW and that is rare). There is also a 'Contralto', a rare low female voice. There ya go gentlemen. ♥
I have asked the twins multiple times to listen to Jeff Buckley’s rendition. Hands-down the best one! Jeff Buckley was taken from the earth to soon and the entire Grace album is unbelievable start to finish.
They should hear K.D. Lang sing it. Leonard Cohen said after hearing her sing it no one else should. He was in the audience at one of her live performances.
Its all their voices After layering the harmony on top of background vocals, the solo shines on top - you wouldn't even know there weren't instruments being played. Named for the pentatonic scales, Pentatonix is a five-person singing group that formed to compete in the NBC a cappella competition show The Sing-Off.
Kudos to Pentatonix for this fantastic rendition of the late, great Leonard Cohen’s masterpiece. Another one that deserves listening to is K.D. Lang’s version.
Women have three groups: soprano, mezzo-soprano and contralto (we called it alto in choir). Men have countertenor, tenor, baritone and bass (pronounced like base) And young boys whose voices haven't changed sing treble. No autotune for Pentatonix ~ great harmonies! Please think about playing K D Lang's version of Halellujiah ~ a wonderful passionate version that gets you in the heart. Love your vibe ~ thanks for all you do! 🎶💞🎶
Contralto and Alto overlap but they are not the same...contraltos are fairly rare, basically female tenors. You mention k.d. lang...she is an absolutely prime example of a contralto.
And some women, like me, sing actual tenor (in church choir) and lead (in a barbershop chorus). I was already an alto in kindergarten so I knew I'd have a deep voice later. Too deep, in fact, to sing in the chorus at my all-girls high school, which was all sopranos and altos.
I came for the reaction to Mitch and I was not disappointed! I get goosebumps every single time. This a cappella group is beyond amazing. I swear they aren’t human. ❤️❤️❤️

This song was written by the amazing Leonard Cohen. I would love you to listen to his version. I think he is one of the greatest songwriters and singers of our time. Also check out his song, Anthem. The world lost a true talent when he died.
Oh you 2 made my night. Having a tough one and just sitting quietly with some tears flowing and this popped up. This song is my God song. And you two always always always make me smile. God bless. Thank you.
Pentatonix never uses anything but their voices for instruments. You definitely need to check out more of their videos. I have a feeling you will react more of their songs.
Every time I've listened to them sing this song, it's ended with tears streaming down my cheeks. It's the most beautiful a'capella version I've ever heard of any song. This must be what angels sound like when they sing. I'm a pretty good vocalist myself. So good in fact, that I used to think that I was the best singer on the planet. I know now that I'm not. I am humbled and stand in awe of Pentatonix...
Mitch is a Counter tenor (hat) Kirsten is a Mezo Saprano Scott is a Baritone Kevin is the Beatboxer (also a Tenor) Avi (now Matt) is Bass They use no instruments their songs except rare occasions, they are all acapella
Mitch in the hat (counter tenor singer, a type of classical male singing voice whose vocal range is equivalent to that of the female contralto or mezzo-soprano voice types ), Scott (baritone), Kirstie which rhymes with thirsty (mezzo soprano). On the right there is Avi who is the bass and next to him is Kevin who is the beat boxer. When Kevin sings he sings tenor - high baritone
Please, please, please listen to Jeff Buckley’s version of this great song, written by Leonard Cohen. Jeff was so amazing and I know you guys will love his beautiful voice.
One of my all-time favorite artists was Jeff Buckley. Gone too soon. I listened to the Grace album so many times I can’t even count. I still listen to it to this day. The voice of an angel. I have begged the twins repeatedly to listen to hallelujah and though this version is OK it does not come close to Jeff’s.
Us Canadians know this is an amazing song/poem by the iconic Leonard Cohen. These folks do an amazing job. It makes me cry in a good way every time I hear this

It’s one of my favorites- also this is not a religious song at all. It’s sort of a lost or unrequited love song. Leonard Cohen is probably one of my favorite songwriters ever. Everyone and their cousin have covered this song but I like this one because it’s à capella and they are really good.
What I love about these young men is their acceptance of all different genres of music. I'd love to see you do Tamela Mann sing Take me to the King. Or Hezikiah Walker do Every Praise is to our God. Please tell me if you do.... it'll move you boys!! Keep it up young men!
Soprano (1): high treble voice (mostly women) Soprano 2: in between, not too high, not too low (mostly women) Alto: Low treble voice (mostly women) Counter tenor: highest singing voice for a guy Tenor: high voice for guys (women can be flipped to tenor too) Baritone: in between. Not too high, not too low (most likely a guy) Bass: very low voice (most likely a guy)
No instruments! Every sound you hear is done with their beautiful voices! I don’t understand what the lyrics mean in this song, but the music is so beautiful!
A man who can sing as high as a soprano is called, (oddly enough!) a counter-tenor, the women are generally divided into soprano, mezzo-soprano, and alto, and the men divided between tenor and the bass.
Yay Pentatonix! My favorite current-day, young group. As many commenters have already said, they are an acapella group. No musical instruments - just voices, hand claps, beat boxing (on a couple songs, the beat boxing guy, Kevin, plays the cello, but that is very much the exception). They do a full range of song styles, from old to new. Their sound is just amazing for 5 people, no instruments. A few of my Pentatonix favorites include "Sound of Silence" "Imagine" "Dreams"
The week there was a MAGA rally a few miles south of the Canadian border, a bunch of KKK pukes came up to recruit in our town. They were so proud to be major supporters of his.
Men's singing ranges: Tenor, Baritone, Bass. Singers can go higher with what's called their head voice, such as a falsetto. Hallelujah was written by Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen back in the 80s. He is considered as much of a poet as a songwriter. While it's been covered many times, Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah is considered by most to be the gold standard.
Little did Leonard Cohen know what this song he wrote would do for the world.

OMG!!! Pentatonix is AWESOME!!!! Have loved them for at least 5 years or more !!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I came for the reaction to Mitch and I was not disappointed! I get goosebumps every single time. This a cappella group is beyond amazing. I swear they aren’t human. ❤️❤️❤️
yep, ya gotta love the"Mitch slap!" lol:
LOL! You guys crack me up. This is a Leonard Cohen song and Pentatonix don't use any instruments. They do it all with their voices and hands.
Their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody is really good too.
There is an excellent beat boxer in this band.
Haven't heard any version of this beautiful song that hasn't given me a minute to reflect on how glorious life is ..
Ok so there are ultra saprano, first saprano, second saprano, first alto, second alto, tener, baratone, bass
You should read my comment above! 💖
love Alexandra Burkes version
This is Sooooo dang beautiful.
I have tears 😢😢😭😭running down face.
I have neeeever heard this song sang sooò beautiful until now. Thx 4 play 1 luv!!!
Uhkaay!!!
OMG! My 1st time hearing this song too. What strong and beautiful voices. This song gave me chills.
If you do anything today, listen to Jeff Buckley’s version. Best version of the song I’ve ever heard. Makes your whole body become covered in goosebumps and you will weep.
You should check out their version of the sound of silence. Actually anything by them. They're incredible
@@rvs_musher6868I think K. D. Lang’s version better than anyone’s
Sopranos, Alto, Tennors and base. I sang in choir too. I sang Alto not all girls are soprano. This song is awesome! Many artists have sang it.
This song was written by the amazing Leonard Cohen. I would love you to listen to his version. I think he is one of the greatest songwriters and singers of our time. Also check out his song, Anthem. The world lost a true talent when he died.
Agreed
@@di-jt6jp Vote up for them to listen to Leonard Cohen
I had an ex introduce me to Leonard Cohen's music. Best thing I got from the relationship. 🤭
Oh you 2 made my night. Having a tough one and just sitting quietly with some tears flowing and this popped up. This song is my God song. And you two always always always make me smile.
God bless. Thank you.
You should also check out Pentatonix’s version of “Mary did you know”. My favorite rendition of that song. Just beautiful!!
Yes theirs and Cee lo's he does that song so well.
YES PLEASE!!
That is my favorite version of that song….hands down!!!!
Guys, Tenors, Bass, Baritone. Girls, Alto and First and Second Sopranos.
Definitely check out their Christmas album--'Mary Did You Know?' Is EPIC.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love that song
Beautiful and just amazing.
You should listen to Pentatonix cover of Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)!
Omg Yasssss!!! Pentatonix are AMAZING! You must do Mary Did You Know ? Next
Also Avi Kaplan (the bass voice) went solo and is amazing on his own too.
Pentatonix never uses anything but their voices for instruments. You definitely need to check out more of their videos. I have a feeling you will react more of their songs.
You young men make me say hallelujah!
They won a Grammy for their Daft Punk medley. It's iconic. Also, one of my faves is Gold. It will make you leave your chairs, it is so good. Facts.
Hey guys, its Soprano, Tenor, Alto, Bass (pronounced base)
From the bottom up it's Bass, Baritone, Tenor (male voices) then it's Alto, Mezzo-Soprano, and Soprano (female voices).
Guys, you have to do Pentatonix's Amazing Grace. It's a spiritual experience.
True that.
YES!
Mary Did You Know too
Every time I've listened to them sing this song, it's ended with tears streaming down my cheeks.
Mitch is a Counter tenor (hat)
Kirsten is a Mezo Saprano
Scott is a Baritone
Kevin is the Beatboxer (also a Tenor)
Avi (now Matt) is Bass
They use no instruments their songs except rare occasions, they are all acapella
Love you guys! This band is totally without instruments. Only their voices!!
Keep reacting to Pentatonix. You will have Pentaholics flocking to your page! Any song you choose is a masterpiece.
The best cappella group ever! You would love all their songs.
The Mitch face! I love it! Thanks for watching it guys!!
Kirsten is my "Mitch". ;-)
You can't beat the Jeff Buckley version
Us Canadians know this is an amazing song/poem by the iconic Leonard Cohen. These folks do an amazing job. It makes me cry in a good way every time I hear this
This group will always be one of my fav no matter what
There's actually FIVE distinctions~Sopranos, Alto, Tenor, Barritone AND Bass my Sweeties
FINALLY!!! Been waiting for this forever!!! Every song they do is amazing! React to them doing: Amazing Grace, Bohemian Rhapsody l, Sound of Silence, Mary Did You Know, Daft Punk Melody, and Imagine!
Always a pleasure to watch reactions by these two. Pentatonix is one of the best acapella bands ever! Good choice for an intro to them. There are so many more to listen to as well. I have had the pleasure of seeing them perform in person and their voices are magical.
RIP Leonard Cohen. He wrote the song and original performer. Fantastic poet
The best. 💔
Yes!
Have been a huge fan of Leonard Cohen for more than 40 years. Absolutely brilliant poet. Love this rendition of the time.
There are no instruments in their songs it's only voices incredible!
Yes pentatonix
Do they ever figure out it’s vocals? They need more Pentatonix
FINALLY!! I have waited for you to listen to Pentatonix! You need to do their version of Sound of Silence next. Do it.
Soprano (1): high treble voice (mostly women)
Soprano 2: in between, not too high, not too low (mostly women)
Alto: Low treble voice (mostly women)
Counter tenor: highest singing voice for a guy
Tenor: high voice for guys (women can be flipped to tenor too)
Baritone: in between. Not too high, not too low (most likely a guy)
Bass: very low voice (most likely a guy)
Just the voices rejoicing. Watch more, they are amazing.
No instruments except their beautiful voices! They are AMAZING!!!
Beautiful! Gave me chills!
Singing Acapella is not easy and they made it look that way!
Their harmonies are spectacular!
Love Pentatonix!
This song gives me goosebumps!
PTX! Finally! ❤️
No instruments! Every sound you hear is done with their beautiful voices! I don’t understand what the lyrics mean in this song, but the music is so beautiful!
I'm sitting in eighty degree heat but have gotten full body chills listening to the folks sing.
Straight Chills 😄🥰
One of my favorite versions is Kate McKinnon's on SNL right after the 2016 election. She was heartbroken.
I'll never forget seeing that on SNL! I cried!
So happy you found Pentatonix. They've got so many great songs. Please react to "Sing" or "Radioactive" next. ✌
I love y’all’s enthusiasm when you really like something… this song is absolutely stunning….truly inspiring… and baritone is the deep male voice…🥰
