Bang shi Yuk graduated college with a degree of aesthetics, that's why BTS music video isn't just like a "okay MYBE that's enough" it's always "IT SHOULD BE PERFECT", as an artist for me making your own set can make you satisfy when it comes to decorating it you can put everything you want, you can invent things that can make your set more beautiful.
That is true, but, from what I have heard... It's not a design or plastic arts degree... It's an academic degree about philosophy and ethics in relation with the arts. Anthough, it probably includes a variety of sujects.
Alex, at 12:23 Suga throws popcorn at JHope and it goes right into his mouth perfectly. That's what they were laughing so hard over ;) and JHope said they should us that in the video. I wish they had.
Why set is made because their videos has particular theme and color tones. They always make customized things. If you look closer in Butter MV the elevator scene. The buttons are 8 for 7 for 7 members and 1 for army. It also has bts and army logo. Even door handle is in shape of bts logo. Detailings are crazy in BTS MVs and that's the beauty of it.
7:05 I think it's because of his big and round eyes, they give a cute and endearing touch to his surprised face. So precious. Btw, thank you for the video I love it as always 💜
Even one of south Korean TV announcer when he interviewed BTS said JK eyes were so big and sparkling. And he was amazed to see that eyes especially when JK take a look at him.
I love when you get a bit technical. I swear today I watched an mv with my kids that you had explained before,( I can't remember exactly because we watched a ton today) and I was talking about things I learned from you, match cuts, dutch angles, background atmosphere, and my kid was like wow look at you getting all technical lol. So keep it up as far as I'm concerned 💜
I love your infectious enthusiasm. And going over all of the technical aspects of filing this was *chef's kiss*, because I never knew how such scenes were filmed. Another great aspect about their behind the scenes videos is seeing the dramatic change from their serious actor-mode selves, versus their more playful, relaxed natural selves. And as to that "look" on JK, his eyes are especially round and when he's a bit startled or zoning out, they can look quite big. A deer-in-the-headlights look that he's well-known for. And which we adore.
Yeah the safety for shooting is extremely important I think . they literally shoot something everyday and if they had to travel to actual locations all the time they would have to pay for extra security all the time because of the amount of saseangs and general public that would follow them . So I seriously think they probs calculated the costs of all that travel and safety precautions and it's cheaper to literally build everything from scratch 😆
Yes, I think the place where they build the sets is 3 hours from Seoul and they not only build sets for the mv they also build sets for the performances there.
It's hard to judge why they make these choices, without more insight into the Korean music industry in general... Maybe it is costume for most groups to build their sets instead of renting places, or maybe BTS builds sets more frequently than normal. I don't know what's the costume, since I don't follow other groups. But, it may be cheaper to build sets there, or more practical, since the idol groups focus so much on performance... Maybe some sets are re-used for performances or props are used by various groups. Things like the climate may have influence too. Someone pointed out, in another comment, that they have a lot of color themes and costumazed objects in their music videos, which is true. For example, the theater in Boy With Luv is called "Persona", like the album.
@@lobaetoile8440 I think the weather is also a factor , I remember that in the making film of Dynamite they say that the scene where they dance surrounded by grass was supposed to be outdoor but due to the rainy season they couldn't do it
One of the best things about bts is their chemistry indeed they are like real brothers!! They are really open about their love for each other but at the same time have the mindset to laugh about the stupid fights T^T !! Its really nice to see you watch them 🥰
lights is one of my fav song it's on my spotify list... and that's one thing i like about your blog because your a filmmaker you focus on bts behind the scene and explain details...you educate me and others in a way...lovett!! 💜💜💜
When you do the behind the scenes reactions I think some more in depth or technical commentary would be cool Alex! It gives us a bit of extra insight into what goes in to making these videos
I agree! Nowadays it's hard to find reactors that value-add to their content; e.g. most people 'react' just by watching and commenting on things, but there's nothing /added/ to the video, apart from their opinion of what's cool or funny. Whereas Alex can go into the technical stuff and explain the aspects we don't understand, which therefore /adds/ to the content we're watching. it's not just us watching the same video most of us have already watched, on a slightly smaller screen as someone talks in the background; it's adding insight that we wouldn't get otherwise.
The reason why most of us watch a filmmakers aspect is to get better idea about the technical stuff. That makes the reaction more interesting and meaningful. we get to appreciate things better so go on with the rants. We love it.
I like the idea of them building their own sets because I see it as a way bighit reinvests money into BTS They use the money they earn from BTS to make better videos for BTS
i believe a huge factor on why they do sets often is that they think that if they rent the impact it would have on the business and location itself because of its reputation of being in this or that bts music video. maybe they aren't necessarily aiming to give the free promo unless it is intentional like the jimmy fallon korea airlines one or are worried if the fans would flock and mob it too much.. old buildings of bighit has so much grafitti and paint because people would write letters to the members there.
Yesterday I watched the movie Cruelle and I couldn't stop noticing all the lighting, the camera angles, the atmosphere and the wet floor at night. I've never enjoyed watching a movie like I did yesterday. You really influence us with your passion for film making. Thank you and keep up the hard work.
Every BTS music videos are a Masterpiece. Never seen such an amazing job. I get lots of satisfaction from watching these MVs, listening to their songs. I am really happy living in the same era with these Legends. Regarding sleeping habits, I also have started developing an issue falling asleep. Have tried many options but medications. Found out few sleeping hypnoses which work just Perfect! 15 min and I am already asleep. Just find the one that really resonates with your soul and calms your mind, go to the comfy bed, headphones on, and good luck!
If i had to guess, i bet which camera they use changes depending on what the specific DP wants to use. So between videos, if it's not the same DP, maybe another DP prefers RED while another prefers Arri?
I love how much you lust after the lights and cameras, it is so fun! This song means so much, it is as they said, a gift. It's a song that brings comfort, which is something we all need these days.
I just remembered the florist run episode they filmed in 2018?2019? I dont remember. Anyways, afterwards, the florist told abt his experience filming with them and we found out that the whole ordeal was handled so secretively that he didnt know he would be filming with bts until the day of, when they were already at the location. They are THAT cautious abt letting people know where they are. Thats also the reason they exclusively fly private nowadays, bc saesaeng actually used to find out their flight details and sit in seats behind them in the plane and other creepy shit.
interviewer: So what do you think is the most important part of our life? me after watching a cute guy doing reactions to bts: WATER ON THE FLOOR AND ATMOSPHERE!!!!
I loved the bts of BTS today!😂 Anyway, can't believe didn't see this video before. Thanks again for telling us all about the different filmmaking tactics. Lots of love and support for your channel!!! I hope you so IU's music videos soon! I promise you'll love the cinematography of the mv's.
funny how you said how blue light actually makes u subconsciously awake, like I'm literally here in my bed in the dark at 3-6am watching all of your vids cause i couldn't sleep GDKSHSKSNSK hELP-- but your videos are really great, and i might try to film making as a hobby now, cause u make it seem really interesting. thanks for that
People providing a lot of reasons why they use sets but haven't seen anyone say that a lot of these are American inspired so you wouldn't even find something like this in Korea, especially seoul is so packed. Easier to build it than to fly out
it is nice that we are able to hear your words better since the sound of the videos you are reacting got less volume. 💜 keep up the good work. i love how you disect and react to the videos. 💜
Did you notice at 6:42: they seem to be using a phone to record something funny from the monitor? I think it's hysterical that with all the cameras around them, they still like to record their own little moments.
Thank you Alex, I really enjoyed this reaction!💜 Okay, I really like how you added in a clip to show what you’re talking about, like how the tracking works!!
Another thing to think about is that if they go to a real place that place will become a tourist destination. Some businesses would be okay with that, but some would become annoyed at excessive loitering or a parking lot where their own customers cannot find a space. And they might contact the company with complaints down the line. Building their own places is easier on that front.
For sleep, if you tend to have a busy mind wihen you are trying to sleep or if you wake p and can't get back to sleep. Audio books give you something to think about, I only use the ones I have read before since I usually fall asleep during the timer I set, so I am not lost when it start it again.
I don't know if anyone has already said this, but if you want to see behind the scenes of BTS works more detailed it's on their DVDs (memories, tours, etc.). I think you can find some of them on youtube, there is some channel that uploaded it.
I believe the make the sets, firstly because you can't get those locations (a little western/"fantasy" like locations) in Korea. Secondly, it might be as you said secrecy for BTS. I as a major in film would honestly prefer to build sets if we have the budget because sometimes the image we have as directors can't be found in real locations haha. Plus you probably get the freedom to do or add whatever you want on the set.
Re: Set designs. They often strive for a western/US aesthetic (or Latin American, as with Airplane) and these types of locations are not easily found in Asian countries, no matter how technologically advanced they are. (Note the English signage). Parts of America are so ethnically diverse that it is not difficult for a scout to find any style of location nearby. Plus… total creative control.
"I love his shocked face". Haha, he's not necessarily shocked but when he's focused, zoned out, amused, Jungkook's big eyes is something else. Also why there's "Jungshook" hahaha
I like when you go into technical details. I know nothing about film making or shooting music videos and it's interesting to hear how some of the thing I see on the screen are done. side note. I once sat through a whole movie completely alone in the movie theater. I can confirm it feels odd 🤣.
Again they go on location a lot but something you have to realize is the more they use real places the more paps or leaked footage or locations can happen. The reason we don't have a lot of spoilers is because they can control the set better than real places. Why the monitor? They are very picky and precise about their performances. They not only look at the monitors to review shots, but also *while they are filming* They are very good at creating the effect they want in real time by watching the monitors. I don't know if there is *anyone* who spends more of their lives on camera than BTS.

Hi Alex, thanks for the video! If you liked this drama type MV try another Japanese one called For You it has a really sweet story too.
I am loving the intro Music
