- We've had this exhaust comparison requested for quite a while and we were finally able to film it for you guys! So here it is, the MK8 GTI Milltek race catback exhaust with the factory downpipe!
Lots of great sounds but still at a lesser volume than this catback w/ an aftermarket downpipe! Great setup for those of you who have no intentions of pushing as much power as possible but want a more aggressive-sounding exhaust!

How about the same setup with a high flow downpipe, sounds great with no down pipe though, perfect sound,
i’ve noticed from so many gti’s that just an exhaust doesn’t make too much of a sound increase more of a tone difference, down pipe is where you get that loudness
With a lot of them, especially with a muffler and/resonator this is true! This exhaust on the other hand is quite a big difference in person.
Just a res delete makes it sound awesome, don't need to get a down pipe. But there down pipe does sound sick 👌
@@BMPTuning Of course, camera never does it justice. Overall golf’s always sounds good to me.
I have this setup and yes DP's make a huge sound difference, but this is much lower and louder than stock exhaust. If you add the Milltek muffler, likely not much louder, but I'd do that if I do high flow DPs.
I'm getting this set up
Great video from a great company and staff. Keep it up 👍 Loving my Milltek exhaust.
how loud it is in confort for highway
You should weld half a V pipe on each side of that exhaust where it meets the wall, that would help with back pressure immensely. Doesn’t flow great like that which creates unwanted sound too, just saying obviously it’s preference though!
About to pick up this exhaust tomorrow, I’m very excited!
Did you end up getting it?
Sick!!! Hope you like it, thank you
Great video, love the content guys. Keep it up.
Appreciate it! We will!
I believe I just found the exhaust I want with the stock downpipe
Let us know!
I have it I am happy with it.
I love the way this sounds outside, but there's always a concern about inside the vehicle. At full throttle I'm good with full noise, but part throttle drone is a killer. What do you do to keep the noise out of the passenger compartment?
I have this setup, and yes you will get resonance as you removed a resonator with the stock exhaust, but HARDLY ANY at daily driving. Easy driving gives it a lower growl while commuting, not a drone. If you are commuting between 1-3k RPMs you have almost none. I just did a drive on a 70mph high way and there is no drone at all as I'm easily under 3k RPMS. You'll only get high resonance when you give it the skinny pedal hard and it varies on gear. Loudest are 2nd and 3rd, peaking around 4200 RPMs. You'll also get that satisfying "BRAAAP" on more aggress shifts. I went with RACE Milltek as you can replace the pipe in the rear with a muffler offered by Milltek for minimal cost. I'd likely do that if I got high flow downpipes. FYI, no TUNE on the car as of yet, only APR intake.
^^^^ This!!
sounds good, but black tips are so hard to see, kinda makes it look weird on film. Are they more noticeable in person?
They're noticeable but understated. There are other tip options with this exhaust setup! We have their brushed titanium tips on our GTI!
Looking down on them from the rear, yes. Driving yes, I think the low camera angle just hid them .
sold! been looking for ages, almost went for the cobb titanium as i love the resonance with them just 1700 is a lot
LMK when you're ready if you havent ordered it already, sale ends soon!
Did u end up going with miltek?
Ended up with the mbrp as it has a frequency cancel thing. Forgot the name, was cheaper too. Only has a tiny bit of drone at exactly 2,000rpm cruising and highway is perfectly quiet
it would be sick if yall did an apr exhaust video for the mk8! i cant find any good videos of it
We'd love to, but APR hasnt sent us one for testing!
Race vs non-resonated version, which is louder?
Curious why it’s running rich (smoke). Is that common on the stock tune or is there an issue?
The smoke is from the exhaust itself - often you'll find oils and such from the manufacturing process, still left in the pipes! They burn off rather quickly, that is what you are seeing in the video!
I’m really torn between this exhaust and the road+ version. I want it to be loud but not obnoxious and don’t want highway driving to be uncomfortabledue to drone. Any advice?
If you're sticking with OE DP I would go with the race, if its too loud still for you, you can always upgrade to the Road+ for the difference basically. If you go Road+ and want it louder, you wasted more money than the opposite.
@@BMPTuning I do have an OEM downpipe. Drone at highway speeds isn’t too bad?
@@BigRMD313 Not to me, but everyone has a different idea of what drone is/what bothers them/etc.
How is the drone while cruising (highway)? And how does this system compare to MBRP’s in your opinion? I like how this sounds a lot, but wondering if the resonator in the other may be better for me, since they are almost identical!
I prefer the Milltek offerings personally, but we also have a video here on the MBRP! Ultimately up to you!
Cool video. Thanks. I got the MK8 GTI but the exhaust rarely cracks and bang even on sport mode. Any idea why?
I got you. When you start the car in sport mode it won’t pop, so be sure to switch it to normal mode and then right back to sport
Yup its like a fighter jet, theres lots of buttons to hit when you first get in LOL
@@BMPTuning LOL I love my mk8 so much
@@crowsab5291 Thank you.
How would you compare this exhaust to the awe track exhaust ?? Torn between the two.
We've tested/installed both, and have nothing bad to say about either exhaust! Most of us at BMP prefer Milltek usually, due to the tip design/finish options. But happy to help you out with either!
They both sound quite similar, fit great, and look great!
Is this the version with opf?
it is not!
which one sounds better? Milltek catback exhaust or Magna flow neo series?
While I havent heard the Magnaflow in person at this point, given the amount of R&D as well as updates that have been done to the Milltek system I feel it would be very hard to beat for the average company that doesnt actually invest in the community/own the car/etc.
If i pair this exhaust with the stock downpipe will there be worse drone than stock at 75-80mph?
Its louder, so there will be more noise than stock for sure (there is 0 drone on stock setup)
What intake is on this in this video?
Not sure what intake he is running
Man, Im ready for a MK8 😅.. what trim of the GTI is the best bang for your buck?
When it originally came out, we had ordered a base 6MT Moonstone, sadly it wasnt going to come fast enough so we opted for the Autobahn. Up to you though!!
2023 s is the best bang for your buck. Comes with the iq lights 2022 s doesn’t
Best bang for your buck is the 2024 380 S trim. Last manual!
@@crescens22 yeah until the 8.5 comes out 😂
Does the Golf 8 GTI have an opf installed?🙌🏻
Not in the US
do you guys have a video posted for the mk8 Golf R with the race exhuast and stock downpipe?
We do not currently. The sound would be fairly comparable to this though!
This is what I'm trying to find! I can only find the one video from milltek.
is there loud drone on highway with this setup?
Not on stock downpipe, race with downpipe though is much louder.
Which size impact wrench was used for the install?
There would be quite a few sizes needed to do everything, so depends on what you're referencing specifically, but any normal set of metric tools should have what you need :D
Is this legal in Germany? I want to get it for my MK8 but I am not 100% sure if its allowed and if it would pass TUV inspection ect.
Milltek has DPs that pass TUV - message us!
@@BMPTuning would this exact one pass TUV? Or would I have to get the road+ one?
Any problems getting VI by the cops? US and/or CANADA?
We have not had anyone in the US that I'm aware of pulled over for their exhaust on a MK8 regardless of brand.
cool, thanks!@@BMPTuning
how much louder than stock is this
It’s actually louder than stock
It’s quite surprising, I have the same car and same exhaust and it’s been outstanding 🔥
@@spankzATK thank you
They sound soooo good! If you didnt end up nabbing one today is the last day of the sale!! (15% off)
@@spankzATKhows the drone on highway?
The rear license plate is misaligned :(
was boutta say that, thought i was trippin for a min
Even mine was misaligned. The dealership didn't drill the holes right. It's annoying.
Yeah, dealership screwed up mine as well. The should come with holes from the factory. I'm either going to get a sticker to balance out mine, or redrill the holes I guess.
@@mikf2887 i went back to the dealer and they redrilled the holes perfectly
Yea but now you have 4 holes drilled :(
