Are Some Things Unacceptable ?

  • It would seem that some things in life are unacceptable. However when we really look at the mechanism of acceptance and non-acceptance we see a surprising thing. That is that acceptability is not intrinsic to experience as it might appear. How can we more clearly investigate our tendency to react? Is it possible to live in equanimity where reactivity is a thing of the past? How can we go about that?

    I don’t tend to have too many conversations around bad things anymore as I can see both sides equally valid and not a lot of people understand that. It’s definitely a taboo subject when you can completely understand the views of the so called ‘bad’ side. I guess that’s why this can be a lonely path sometimes as I don’t find many that I can relate to. I kinda hang out here a lot for the like minded people

      @@markfuller it most definitely comes from a place of compassion and more importantly a place of love. It also runs down into the being and knowing of the truth that we are all one and the same, so there is no right or wrong. It’s a longing to understand both sides instead of the usual I have all the answers, everyone and everything is the teacher and if I can understand another persons point of view then I can learn and improve my being.
      Humans will always find a way to turn good things bad (think TNT, internet, factory farming) I think the most important thing is to not see things as good or bad but more what can I learn here from seeing both sides with the same amount of love.

    Speaking as someone raised in a Jewish family in the shadow of the Holocaust, I have always asserted the absolute primacy of realizing that wanting something NOT to have happened is a kind of madness. People who say that genocide shouldn't happen are like camels with their heads in the sand. Genocide, cancer, the unexpected death of loved ones happen. It couldn't be simpler. The Holocaust is the perfect test for the action of denial. So just as is said in this video, it's really interesting to explore why we are addicted to deny the existence of the actual. What motivates that?

    Good job explaining a difficult concept. Nope, no-thing can be resisted unless you want to carry around unnecessary baggage. All opinions are to be avoided with forgiveness. Opinions are how your ego holds your attention. Resistance breeds resistance. The only way out is break the chain is to stop resisting what is. The ego is tricky and well practiced, it has used the idea of opinion creation to hold your attention for your whole life. When you learn to drop all opinions as fake creations, what is left is a profound peace. A sense of being in a meditation all the time.

    Angelo - this fundamental resistance to what already is has consistently contracted in my throat for years. I was just watching it in tonights practice and trying to work out why the contraction is always in one place.
    To be clear - the minds not trying to make a narrative about why it contracts here because it doesnt matter - but does everyone have certain points that are their specific contraction point? Is it just how bodies are wired?
    Should I work in any particular way regarding where mind perceives it is (because it appears to be in a specific location)? I haven't reached the there's no space or location insight yet.
    Very logical habit right!? 😂 "No to what already is - I simply cant allow you to already be exactly you inarguably already are!"

    Hilarious thumbnail: some of my work colleagues need to see that thumbnail to remind them of how things work.😆
    Yes, people have the tendency to go to 'worst case scenarios' if someone suggests that the line between what's good and what's bad might not even be part of actual reality, but that these are ideas that come from human minds, and seem apparent in other organisms. It seems absolutely absurd that that could be the case, so no surprise that people being exposed to the possibility might give a 'worst case scenario' response. Their entire worldview is being questioned.

    • @SimplyAlwaysAwake
      @SimplyAlwaysAwake  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First of all I’m very sorry to hear about this situation. While your current external circumstances are unfavorable, your inner circumstance is quite favorable indeed. That you are interested in this subject and oriented toward awakening is fortuitous. You CAN find freedom inwardly. This has been accomplished by people in the worst of circumstances (Victor Frankl -Mans search for meaning). So for you specifically I would work toward awakening - a distinct and undeniable shift in what you rage yourself to be. This is best accomplished through self-inquiry or one pointed approach as described in my book and the playlist awakening approaches. Once that has occurred you can start working toward equanimity as per this video and the playlist. It’s very difficult to understand it conceptually it really is a practice based movement, but you certainly have what is needed to achieve this ❤️

My teacher suggested to look into heart practices and gave me some resources, but I love the explanations your books and video have had, so coming from this channel, it would be...more intuitive for me to integrate into what I learned from here.
