A friend of our had an Irish Wolfhound named Rosie who absolutely adored our young daughter. Rosie has crossed the rainbow bridge now, but my daughter keeps a photo of her in her room. Bless

Kids introduced to dog pals can have a lifetime of remembering that connection. My niece remembers the Bullmastiff I had (Rocky) who she got a ride from when she was 3 1/2. As an adult, she still wants one. Rocky was 150 lbs and a lovebug.
Soul friends find each other. I'm a dog whisperer and I have had dog friends come and say goodbye to me. When I call and check they have passed within that day.

The only thing I hate about large dog breeds is their short life spans. Dogs’ lives are already too short but larger ones are way too short!
I agree. I hope Breeders can TRY and make Longevity a goal, seems larger breeds live shorter lives in modern times. Walter is such a wonderful companion, for all. Glad they came together in this Family.

This is one of the reasons why I have a Scottish Deerhound, same appearance, almost same size but an expected lifespan of 8 to 11 years instead of 5 to 8 years of the Irish Wolfhounds which is still of course much less than for example of a Chihuahua but not too bad for such a giant dog. Both are wonderful breeds and a pure joy as a companion!
Totally agree. There’s a reason large dogs are nicknamed heartbreak breeds. Honestly that may be the biggest reason I don’t have a large dog. I don’t think I could deal with having to say goodbye that quickly.
I had a wonderful Great Dane / Rhodesian Ridgeback mix......huge dude with the classic Ridgeback "hairdo". Unfortunately, no hybrid vigor....his heart gave out at 8 years old.
I love Wolfhounds and, tragically, they don't live that long...every Wolfhound I have ever met had the best personality...

I had a collie when I was that age and he was my pillow. Very gentle dog. He use to sit at my bus stop an hour before I'd get home from school every day. My mom would say that the bus was on its way because she'd see him waiting for me.

Never owned a Wolfie. Old girlfriend of mine's sister had two Newfoundlanders. The sweetest dogs, they would help new milk cow moms clean the newborns. And as an adult almost knock you over wanting a belly rub. But would lay right down for children to climb on. Bestest of good dogs.

anyone that likes Irish Wolfhounds should look up the story of Gelert from Wales. It’s kinda sad but shows Wolfhounds have been the best dog for kids for hundreds of years 😊
My niece & her husband bought a Irish wolf hound puppy at the same time as their first baby was due so they can grow together ❤, both almost 2 years old

Beautiful dogs. A friend had one and I loved its long lopping run eating up ground like it was nothing. I'd love to have one but I couldn't deal with their short lifespan and grief that would come much too soon.

Irish wolfhounds have a notoriously short lifespan. They are overbred. If you like them get a mixed breed one.

I had a friend of who's gone now had 2 of them and they were no joke friendly but if he wasn't around for get it they were mean watchdogs and I mean hold there own even against a pitbull those were some bad boys

It’s irresponsible to let the kids play sword fight with the dog. It’s possible it might be ok with some dogs but mostly it’s very dangerous and stupid to show it on TH-cam
They are not playing sword fight. They are playing saber fight. Plus they are not directly confronting the dog with the toy.
As long as you teach the child to be gentle and respectful with the dog, and as long as you always supervise, there is no harm.
Stupid people will be stupid either way.

All my small dogs have lived to be seniors. I had two toy fox terriers who lived til 21 & 17. Good health till the end. But big dogs are not as blessed. I think man's intervention into breeding practices have made their lives shorter. Golden's used to live longer, and who wouldn't want that ! 😊😊✌🏽✌🏽🐕🦺🐕🦺 Breeders need to breed for longevity, too.

Every time is see this kind of videos and the narration goes, "as the boys have gotten older..." I get so sad for the dog, reminded me of my dogs that I have to left behind and they passed away while I was away for college.
