This only works with multiples of 9.

Suddenly I could do math noticably better. And subtracting is in the family of adding and dividing is in the family of multiplying.
Exqmple. 9×3, extend your fingers out and count to 3. The thirsd finger you drop and the answer reveals itself within the fingers that are up still. So in this case you put the 3rd finger down and it makes 2 and 7 which you put them together make 27
I taught this skill to my students every year to help them on tests. It was interesting to see them write this before the test begun so they could go back and reference it. I worked with special needs kids for 20 years.
Yeah well it's not like I can say 9*5 and they will know it right away either, they will have to redo the sequence in their head.. betweent hat trick, knowing it by heart, the finger trick and mental math, rhis way is about the less efficient to actually teach kids how to do mathm but hey the test is what matters right. xD
