I've had a chance to fly one briefly - Very noisy, sensitive in pitch but with very heavy ailerons. Also very picky about where the load C of G was situated.
I am British but I agree in some way. Although it is unconventional, they are still EXTREMELY reliable and easy to manufacture because of their size and the simple fuselage.
