My daughter was a bridesmaid in a slightly steampunk / "Firefly" influenced wedding. The girls all wore gorgeous floatly georgette black floor length dresses, black and white crushed velvet draped jackets (it was winter) and carried red Western Australian wild flowers. The bride's gown and veil had black accents too. Looked absolutely amazing. The menfolk all wore long dress coats, black brocaded waistcoats with cravats that matched the girls' bouquets.

, very simple, wedding with a magnificent white organza blouse. She took the jacket off at the reception and it worked perfectly. (That was many years ago and my Aunt, the mother of the groom, warned me about the black suit, so it was not a surprise).

My Bridemaids all wore black dresses for my wedding and they all looked amazing I thought. I mean these dresses are perhaps a bit casual for bridesmaids but there is nothing wrong with wearing black.

I think black can be really classy. I didn't mind these dresses, perhaps if it is nautical theme then navy blue would have looked much better, but they need to realise they could have been a whole lot worse! They way they say they are funereal, I'm more likely to wear that dress to a wedding than funeral!
I did as well, they had Audrey Hepburn like Breakfast at Tiffany’s style like dresses, my pictures look timeless and considering all my bridesmaids were in 12 weddings that same year their budgets were shot on weddings, they told me later I had chosen the most reasonable priced dress (1 bride picked bridesmaids dresses that were almost 1/2 the cost of what I paid for my wedding dress 🤯) , they all had taken 2nd jobs just pay for some of the weddings as they were going to be traveling out of state. I felt so bad, how can you tell a friend, here is a dress you must wear and pay for (maybe never wear again) and indulge my every whim and buy me gifts, then also do it for 12 other couples, insane!!!!!

Really? Look at them. They are not bridesmaid dresses. I’ve seen an add for them on a discount dress shop online. They are hideous. They’re going to refuse because they probably know the bride a hell of a lot better. At least that’s what I’ve gathered from this show. The grooms and best men tend to be the most selfish and spend the majority of the budget on their stag do’s. They also pick juvenile and un-sophisticated themes like it’s a school dance and not a wedding. Ugh

The bridesmaids are part of the image of the wedding? If they look like crap, it’s not a good look overall for the day. They’re supposed to look decent and nice. It’s the grooms that are selfish and literally do 0 research into what bridesmaids typically wear. They spend most of the budget on their stags and pick out dresses that the bride and bridesmaids do not like. What makes you think the bride would like these either? They’re hideous!

They definitely never seem to know what the bride likes 😂 I’d trust my friends fashion sense first ( no offense to my husband) and would have given my five ladies a metaphorical license to kill if they were given anything remotely like this for my wedding - but that’s just me

I wish Ben had stayed. I also wish the ladies had not taken it so personally and insulted him so badly. Black and white with polka dots is adorable. Nobody would wear that to a funeral. They also seemed to fit very well. It is a bit bold, however, and won't be to everyone's liking. Again, another reason why this show is so risky. These guys did their best, and the girls think they ruined everything on purpose. With someone else's tastes, it would have been fine.

I felt for this groom-unlike others he did make it all for her and thought of her, even just having his stag at the house and the bride kicked off because he hugged his friends. That's a major red flag. The sisters constantly called him thick yet they think 50s style retro dresses are like a funeral and can't even guess a theme? They were SO rude and immature. Refusing to go to your sisters wedding. I think they were quite pretty dresses-even if not Edwardian like his Titanic theme. He even remembered little details for the tables etc and the fact she wanted to wear slippers. He did well for someone who doesn't know what bleach is or how to tie his laces!

The thing I find fascinating in watching these is that when the bride picks out an ugly dress for the bridesmaids, everyone quietly rolls their eyes and runs with it. The groom does it, and everyone says NOPE, AINT GOING THERE. The sexual dynamics on these are fascinating.

I can recall a time when nobody had any say in the choice of maid's dresses, just the bride and she paid for the dresses etc, too and she chose her own wedding dress and kept it secret from the gromm, to surprise him, though in many Latin and southern Mediterranean cultures, the groom actually buys the bride's gown, to symbolise being her future provider husband and she is just grateful for whatever he chooses for her and wears it with great pride, even if she hates it because it is her new status the man who nought it hives her that she values more than some silly wedding dress for one day, though the smart ones usually bought a coloured dress that could be worn again eg to annual parties, for their anniversary etc. That said, although I once thought black bridesmaid dresses were a eful, after I saw how good some looked, it changed mind. They look smart and do not compete with the bride and match the grooms men's suits. The bouquets brighten them up. If Brides and maids are going to involve the men in their choice of bridal and maids attire, they need to accept that males will often have a very different notion of what looks good on women. I learned that uncomfortable lesson at 19 at university when a student highly sought after 'hot guy' with a sports car wanted to date poor country girl me from the Aussie Bush, with just one drab grey skirt and white blouse to her name. He decided that would never do and rushed out and bought me this sexy looking white halter neck affair that he said made me look as sexy as Marilyn Monroe. I felt so embarrassed but had agreed to his expensive date he had organised and so I just put on this hideous dress he had bought me and, all evening, he was so happy about how good it looked on me. But, when I took a look at myself in the Ladies toilet mirror, I could have fixed of shame. But, the evening went well. He had a great ty ime and I enjoyed the Co versation etc, so who cares about whether I liked the dress or not, though I was dying to get it off and get back into my drab old familiar grey flannel wool skirt and white country girl blouse. Guess he had moved me out of my sartorial comfort zone somewhat as he sped around in his smart red sports car with busty long haired blonde looking like a version of the famous movie star he had tried to make me look like. I suppose I should have complained about his secism. But he was kind and feminism had not yet ruined male female interactions. So I just tried to make the most of the chance to be dated by a going places young economics student with a sports car other girls were dying to be asked out by.
The bride should tell her sisters to do one. They’re so negative about it and obviously that’s gonna rub off on her. If they’d been a bit more positive and gone along with it it wouldn’t be an issue. The sisters obviously don’t want her to marry him.

That family must have some crazy funerals if they think the dresses look funereal. They look more like dresses for a waitress at an old time soda shop or country style roadside restaurant.
People forget that a wedding is about marrying the person you love in front of your friends and family. If dresses, flowers, hen dos etc are the be all and end all maybe you shouldn't be getting married in the first place. It's all a bit of fun. I'd love to see what my boyfriend would come up with to make a day and occasion to remember. And if the bride saying "no" because of black bridesmaids dresses is a genuine threat then the groom would be getting a lucky escape.
