hello i am a bozo and was reminded that gold-stripping is, in fact, canonically brought up a couple times in the series and was definitely not an illusion. … but it *was* fun to speculate that it was right guys LOL
Yes, these dwarves found all the gold according to the main character.... but non of them ever made it out of the dungeon. A dungeon that creates objects through magic based on desire doesnt make the objects any less 'real'.
It may very well be true tho, the dungeon makes things out of thin air yes, but they are not illusions, the dungeon did bring generations of material wealth
I hope Marcel doesn't become another mad mage. The road to hell is paved with the best intentions, but you can't afford to lose yourself to it. God is the only one who can help us and He is the source of eternal life. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord then you will be saved. He loves you and wants you to be with Him forever.
@vessel5062 i can't even express the ride that is going to happen in the second half of you do read it. I want an hour-long movie-quality episode for the ending, on god
During the golden country episode, Yadd said that he recalled Delgal constantly blaming himself for how Thistle have gone mad from dark magic and Laios also speculate that the reason to why Thistle is so defensive with intruders was also because of the trauma when the previous king died in the shapeshifting one. I think that the parallel is definitely there
youre on the right track here but i have one small correction: the pillars actually were made of gold at one time. if you remember laios says that he and his sister first joined a gold peeling crew when they first came to the island. the dungeon used to be full of gold, even on the upper floors, but over time less of it could be found as adventures filled their pockets with it. so now they must venture deeper and deeper into the dungeon in order to find it still, tempting adventures further in.
When I see people speculate where Dungeon Meshi is going, "I don't think you can even imagine it." From the Elden Ring reveal trailer plays in my head.
Not going to confirm or deny anything, but as a manga reader who loves watching reaction videos, it’s so refreshing to see someone who actually looks deeper into what’s going on and can pick up on subtle hints in the storytelling, instead of just half paying attention. This is one of those stories that definitely rewards people who pay attention to the little things
I'm a manga reader and I'm *cackling* about your thoughts I binge read the manga and but i didn't notice several of the stuff at the time, they just flew over my head, but watching the anime i have been constantly slapping in the face with the foreshadowing from basically the start Boy this serie is good
Fun (spoiler-free) Thistle Facts: 1. Since we saw Delgal and Thistle playing as children, you can do the math to determine that Thistle was still the elven equivalent of a teenager by the time the immortality curse came into play. Him being frozen halfway through puberty gives a lot of context to his mental state. 2. You may have already inferred this since Thistle is the only elf we see in the Golden Kingdom and supposedly "grew up alongside Prince Delgal as a brother," but he was basically adopted by the king. (Makes his reaction to the king's death in the paintings more tragic. Poor kid saw his dad die in front of him.)
using a food allegory for an intro is a stroke of genius, great writing! I particularly appreciate your observation of the early floor plant monster luring prey with sweetness and how it can be seen as a parallel to the dungeon - that's a genius observation! Your dungeon meshi videos are always excellently written and highly enjoyable, can't wait for the next.
For real, I was going HMMMM 👀 Can’t wait for everyone to go nuts over season 2, it’s so ambitious as a plot line but because of all the worldbuilding and foreshadowing it fits in so nicely!!
As a manga reader I wish I could tell you how close or far off your theorizing was. All I will say is buckle up for season two. Its gonna have a crazy plot twist.
"Marcille's deepest desires are to find a way to keep her loved ones from dying" I guess she never heard the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the wise. I would think not, its not a story the magic school would tell you.
When I saw the first episode I was like "Okay, it's a generic ass premise, I guess the show is more about characters and not unique storytelling". Oh boy I couldn't be more wrong...
As an anime-only who carelessly ignored warnings, I've had two major plot points from later in the story spoiled already. However, i think Marcille's repeated expressed desire to have stronger magic, and even blatantly getting a hold of Thistle's book in the dream in episode 19 does draw a strong parallel between them. It's funny that so far, there really hasn't been any throwaway background details. They've seemed to pay off later down the line. This is such a carefully crafted story and I know season two won't disappoint. Keep up the awesome content. I've been curious about our resident baby-faced sourpuss Chilchuck. For as much as we've learned from the other party members, he's had the least details of his past revealed--aside from the bombshell that he's actually middle-aged and has a family, but not much more than that. In the absence of the manga filling in small details here and there, all we can say about him is what we can infer from the limited information we do have.
The best part of this series is that knowing what happens only intensifies your curiosity for what’s to come, if you’re that sort of person. It’s truly a series where the journey is worth more than the destination. Sorry you got spoiled though!
Another parallel between Marcille and Thistle is that Marcille has literally already used forbidden magic to bring a loved one back to life in the show.
Your videos are always incredibly well thought out and honestly I completely agree with explaining the parties luck with the way the dungeon response to desires because it makes a lot of sense. Our main heroes are skilled but they are also insanely lucky, and I just love how the author is able to get away with it with clever explanations.
Your thoughts are always so interesting! I love hearing from people as they go through a series I already finished - that's part of why reactions are fun in general - but I rarely get to hear really detailed theorizing like this and it's really fun! You have some great insights and I look forward to more from you as we go.
5:55, In the context of the show's gimmick of having it's main group make a meal of creatures they kill, he idea the dungeon itself is "eating" the adventurers that delve into it in search of their various goals is an interesting one, even if the answer to the question's it poses is just "the friends we made along the way" and having the courage and humility to appreciate reality being the answer to greed and unrestrained ego. The Marcelle-Thistle connection and the idea of a dungeon that acts like a pocket dimension free of strife already evokes things like Human Instrumentality from Evangelion plotted by Gendo (who is an older, sinister version of his son, main character Shinji) or the Infinite Tsukuyomi from Naruto plotted by Madara and Obito (each character reflecting main characters Naruto and Sasuke in their world-altering ambitions, but removed of any of the love, compassion and honor valued by Naruto or the humility Sasuke comes to develop when putting aside his hateful ways), so it's not like a story like this wouldn't work or be effective.
Remember, Laios loves chimeras. As a manga reader honestly this anime has really captured the underlying world that this is set in so well and your observations are fairly on track
as a manga reader i wont confirm or deny anything or bring up any spoilers, but its so cool seeing what things anime onlys notice and start making connections about and how quickly or not you guys do so. i cannot WAIT for your videos when season 2 comes out lol youre going to have sooo much fun with it as it airs
Despite already knowing what’s going to happen - or maybe *because* I do? - I‘ve really enjoyed your theory videos. While I wont comment on whether you’re right about any of it, I will say I’ve yet to hear you say anything like, egregiously off the wall, because all of your theories come from actually paying attention!! I’ve seen some people be frustratingly obtuse about clear themes or get too bogged down in genre conventions, but you are out here actually enjoying Ryoko Kui’s absolute feast and talking about all the flavors and textures. These characters are so so so rich and the more you dig into them the better they get. And hopefully it's not too spoilery to say that keeping character parallels in mind will be extremely rewarding as the narrative progresses.
Yeah you are going to love season two Imo dungeon meshi is pretty spiritually similar to fullmetal alchemist as a series, in terms of the scope of it getting a lot more ambicious than it inicially seems when it starts off. Also being incredibly well built
Maybe this parallel of Marcille and Thistle the mad mage is intentional, so we can see their similarity and differences, Thistle may have good intention at first but was twisted in time, maybe it shows if it wasn't for the friends and people around Marcille, she could've become another mad mage and she have to choose (I haven't read the entire manga yet)
gotta love a reading comprehension-full analysis. at this point i was not catching any of it! was along for the ride like a peace of plankton out in the sea! sure did get caught unaware by the plot whale!! ok that analogy is getting away from me. but yeah those marcille plot machinations Did Not register
Being a manga reader who finished it a while ago is so fun because I can see the anime onlys theorizing and giggling when they get things right or wrong
I would love an analysis on Falin! She's my third favorite,, I'd like to hear about your thoughts on her relationships with everyone before and after being under the control of Thistle (Note how she didn't kill Laios, Marcille, Chilchuck, Senshi and Shuro -wink-) And maybe some thoughts on how her biology works now as a chimera Keep cooking man!
Something that confuses me is how Senshi predicted that the dungeon would become more dangerous towards Laios' party. He said that the dungeon would respond to their desires by bearing its fangs. But, it seems like the dungeon is actually helping adventurers by giving them safe rooms and water rooms. How is that dangerous? Why would a dangerous dungeon be materializing safe and clean water for them?
I guess it’s not much of a sport for the dungeon if adventurers die from dysentery or smthg. I imagine it as a cat that enjoys playing with its food, it’s more exciting to chase a healthy rat that’ll put everything it has into surviving as opposed to a sickly one
its stopping them from retreating. when they got turned by the changelings the dungeon layout shifted and stopped them from getting changed back right away, then they found the door they were looking for to begin with and had no choice but to go through it. when they were trying to go back to the surface after their confrontation with the mad mage they got lost, but as soon as they decided to continue on after seeing what happened to falin, they found the way down immediately. the dungeon only helps them when it brings them down deeper
i'd like to see you make an analisys video on laios as a character! ive noticed you kinda underestimated his inteligence and doubted his compassion for his relationships in some episodes, as im sure someone has pointed out already, laios' inteligence stats are second highest in the adventures bible and i was wondering if your opinion has changed after reading the manga as well as having finished season 1 :)
does that mean senshi mightve eaten his Dwarven companions without knowing it? the hippogriff they hunted might just be dwarf flavored due to his desire for the meat he ate that day to be hippogriff and not his friends
Oh man... you stepped right on the ending of the story and... walked right past it! 🤣 Your area soooooooo freaking close too! I can't wait to blow your mind with season 2! 😆
I always concluded that, because of the Dragon's soul Falin had an instant surplus of magic, but that's not how it works, the dragon is almost entirely biological, it doesn't spit fire through some magical spell, it has glands and a fuel storage,so the dungeon giving enough magical energy for Falin to protect her friends could very well be true, hell, maybe the spell Marcille made, which was supposed to make Falin's body *temporarily* part of the Dungeon wasn't temporary at all!
I rewatched Senshi, talking about the eggs metaphor. A thought crossed my mind, is that why the new "dragon form" looks like part chicken? Or is it related to the first encounter of a chimaera? Also interesting that the "chicken" mixes also lay eggs. Snakes, dragons. Heck the fact that the sister is a woman and has ovaries... Is it just by chance?
Do a closer look video on Chilchuck! Now that he's mentioned he has a wife he's separated from and multiple daughters it's fun to look back at all his interactions with Izutsumi and Marcille. Dad-chuck Dad-chuck Dad-chuck
I'm so scared for Senshi because the writer knows all the video game lore & I'm afraid we're going to have a #GodOfWar:Ragnarok moment! We're Brock doesn't want to be brought back... #Senshi #DeliciousInDungeon
It's funny how this title is very much European fantasy at glance (dragons, magicians 'n shieeet) but under that facade it's yet again a buddhist philosophy about being free from desires.
Spoiler ish My deepest desire is seeing the return of the sky fish That was so cool And set up Marcel being parallel to the mad mage She was quite good at controlling the sky fish after all
