There are so many comments on here from guys who think they know about racing which just proves how little they do know. The bottom line is that there are a lot of great drivers in the world and Danica is one of them. End of story.
She had to slow down when she caught wheldon because she wouldnt have a sufficient amount of down force for the next corner. Probably wouldve lost the car. You can hear her say "i got too close coming down the back stretch.." Thats what she meant
I love this vid. As a dihard Indy 500 fan I have always dreamed of taking a few laps around IMS at speed. This vid gives one the sense of being in the cockpit for 10 laps. Who cares what driver it is, I wish we could get a driver willing to document an entire race from their helmet cam, in order to see all 500 miles from the drivers' perspective.
@18sux29rox Absolutely! My thoughts exactally...Amazing that they do it and keep such a high level of concentration. As much as I like road racing, for me Indy is special. Also as much as I am a Danica fan, the fact that she hung in there and maintained position on the lead lap (to me) is just phenominal! Your thoughts?
There needs to be a way for fans to watch the entire Indy 500 with HD in-car cams and radio feeds of any driver we choose, live. I'd definitely be willing to pay money for the privilege. Very cool seeing the racing lines the drivers take and watching how they have to work the throttle in the corners to avoid the wall.
@webjoyz I think danica car was lil loose y she was lifting. Cuz shes rly lift off the throttle on 1 but they also lift a lil to save he tires since indyvis a brutal track on the tires
As one that truly roots for Danica, this video is unbelievably frustrating to watch. It confirms what I always thought about her - she is a great driver but a bad RACER. It was clear to me that she was afraid to get very close to Weldon, and she was also not committed to over taking him in that first lap. She was driving not to wreck and not to give up 3rd. That's not racing and thats why Weldon finished higher. She has to learn to take chances or she will NEVER win without luck.
This is where her talent was the heck with Nascar those idiots cutting off and playing games if she stayed with it she would eventually would of won the 500 I believe .
@prsjoe Honestly that was the race that finally shut me up. The thing to remember about danica is she's not one of those driver's who can work in any car. If the car's to her liking tho watch out cuz she really drives. If the car's freaking her out she goes into survival mode and has trouble.
Lots of folks want to rag on Danica in NASCAR but the fact of the matter is that she is performing just as well if not better than her male boyfriend who by the way won the Nationwide Series Championship! The fact of the matter is that to be consistently fast in Sprint Cup you have to be on the ragged edge (and half crazy like Denny Hamlin) and I'm not sure that Danica (or some of the other drivers) want to go there. This is what has made Jimmie Johnson so good in recent years - somehow he is able to comfortably drive a loose racecar. Loose is fast and loose is also on the edge of wrecking.
Mark Short // the razors edge for 500 miles. Only a few can manage that. Most average drivers can’t tell where it is. If you’re under it everyone is going by you, if you’re over it you’ll loose control in the first turn you come to and slam the wall.
A verdade é que a danica na Indy foi muito melhor que na Nascar, foi o almirola assumir o #10 que ele já ganhou corridas e está mais a frente nos resultados que a Danica e ainda foi ao playoff neste ano, coisa que a Danica nem passou perto.
Helio deserve to win Indy 500 for his family and re-gain his life racing career and a great job for Danica Patrick podium finish is great. but in May of 2010 next year it will be her month of May. If she keep this up in 2009 she'll win some races and contend for the IRL Championship.
@18sux29rox LOL!!!!! I'm with ya brother! Being a man of modest means myself, and a long time vintage VW owner/ freak (lol) I'm trying to work on getting a formula Vee car going (hopefully) Do you know about Formula Vee? Great way for the lil guy to join in affordable competitive racing. Have a great day...Mike
How does this not become like a video game (assuming part of training is to block out the physical aspects) after 200 laps of going around a circle at 220 mph?
@coltcub64 Yes gruelling and historic, entertaining, with passionate fans. but not as demanding on the driver as the race tracks i mentioned before. these tracks don't test how good a driver is under braking or how good they are at putting the power down out of a corner for example. F1 is the premier class of motorsport with the best drivers in the world. If you put f1 cars on massively high speed tracks like this there would be just as much passing.
She is no Michele Mouton. That woman could race the elite on even terms and came one mechanical retirement away from being the 1982 WRC champion. This was the Group B era too in which great car control became more important than ever. Look at her driving at Pike's Peak in the Audi Quattro...
@noodleninjaa The tradition of left handed oval racing comes from the "Horse and Buggy" era in America. Once automobiles were phasing out horses and naturally people being competitive well people started to race one another. Then business minded people thought "Hey" we can make money at this, and since oval horse racing tracks were already established in America...well there ya go! I know this is an over simplification, but I wanted to give you a little insight as too the why oval racing thing
She had the speed to pass him , but she didn't use it .. it takes nerve to keep the foot down hard when you lose some aerodynamic downforce through the turns when following closely , but thats what you gotta do if you're going to use the draft to its maximum benefit
you cant really validate the talent of a driver on tracks like this. i have no doubt indycar drivers are exceptionally talented but put them on better tracks. americans need to look at tracks like spa, suzuka, silverstone etc.
she is a good driver but I noticed in the turns she backs off and slows down ever so slightly, maybe because she doesnt have balls? what do you think ?.
or perhaps her mechanics and pit crew dont prepare her car as well as her male team mates cars. I think go daddy should focus their main energy on danica and give her the best opportunity to win, and make that their priority.
So ole Danica Patrick is gonna take on and beat both Helio Castroneves and Dan Wheldon with 10 laps to go at Indy huh? LOL LOL LOL HA HA HA HA. TELL ME WHEN THE JOKE ENDS!
@Arch042766 usf1 not exist !!! F1 World Championships start on March 14.. this American team where is ??? F1 not accept dubt project.. F1 is the real motorsport.
Not to knock her but overall she's one of the worst drivers I've ever seen in a race car.. watch NASCAR you'll see what I mean she causes more accidents than anyone I've ever seen in my life.
OMG she is good at the wheel... racing so fast takes a lot of talent.
Beautiful and fast.... what a woman!
oh yeah this is what I call a great ride with a great driver love you danica
awesome same here
Danica in IndyCar>Danica in NASCAR
I MISS YOU IN INDYCAR DANICA!! GODSPEED!
I just love Indianapolis. I would love to watch a full race onboard. Any year, any race. I love this reace track
Danica shouldn't have left Indycar for NASCAR. Her chances of winning were better.
@andersport, far better than you could ever do, PUTZ.
There are so many comments on here from guys who think they know about racing which just proves how little they do know. The bottom line is that there are a lot of great drivers in the world and Danica is one of them. End of story.
Gandolph Greer You forgot the word "not". You can use mine.
It just proves how little you know!
The old days, AJ Foyt, the Unser brothers, etc, that was a fun time to watch Indy cars
capnrob97 I think Indy is hitting a decent stride now though
So damned smooth behind the wheel of a car...I watch the race weekly and always with the In-Car running on my PC!
She had to slow down when she caught wheldon because she wouldnt have a sufficient amount of down force for the next corner. Probably wouldve lost the car. You can hear her say "i got too close coming down the back stretch.." Thats what she meant
Ho lee shit, that is so fast. These racecar drivers are nuts!
i agree she is AWESOME

grande DANICA!!

she is born for open wheel..... shame she never come to F1 ... i would be a big fan!
She tested for F1. Supposedly Burnie Eclstone said "No."
You call tell she was alot more relaxed
@webjoyz I think danica car was lil loose y she was lifting. Cuz shes rly lift off the throttle on 1 but they also lift a lil to save he tires since indyvis a brutal track on the tires

Your analysis is the absolute best I've ever read about how I feel about Danica Patrick as a race car driver.
Think you could do better
@@magb123 We all know the answer to that question! !Lol I'd take third on the track over 1st on the couch any day!
She had a loose car.
@@magb123 That's not the point.
This is where her talent was the heck with Nascar those idiots cutting off and playing games if she
stayed with it she would eventually would of won the 500 I believe .
hey even though its boring, its pretty cool with the indy car around Indianapolis
all i know is that when i played gran turismo, oval tracks were way harder for me than other ones wheni raced with equal cars to the other players
I wonder if she thinks going to NASCAR was a huge mistake now
Looking forward to her final 500 this may. Hope she does well.
@prsjoe Honestly that was the race that finally shut me up. The thing to remember about danica is she's not one of those driver's who can work in any car. If the car's to her liking tho watch out cuz she really drives. If the car's freaking her out she goes into survival mode and has trouble.
Finished 5th at Mil Mile. Fourth in the championship standings.

Well put, but I have a question. Is she lifting in the corners or merely downshifting ?

because indy is notorious for a front stretch tail wind
Crazy!
How does this not become like a video game (assuming part of training is to block out the physical aspects) after 200 laps of going around a circle at 220 mph?
all i know is that when i played gran turismo, oval tracks were way harder for me than other ones
I've driven on the actual track.
@coltcub64 Yes gruelling and historic, entertaining, with passionate fans. but not as demanding on the driver as the race tracks i mentioned before. these tracks don't test how good a driver is under braking or how good they are at putting the power down out of a corner for example. That was Dan Wheldon!
Garrett Orfant RIP Lionheart

Look at her driving at Pike's Peak in the Audi Quattro...
1982 there wasn`t Group B era.
I don't get this: 10 laps without sight of another car on the track or coming out of pit lane?
Why did she lift EVERY SINGLE TIME going into 1? The car was fine in the short chute and she didn't hit the little bump.
I thought races were arranged. I can understand understeer... I just never knew it would be so real.
If she would have stayed with one of the top teams she would have eventually won one of the races
This Car looks to be so unstable ?
@noodleninjaa The tradition of left handed oval racing comes from the "Horse and Buggy" era in America. I wonder what the engine life is? going flat out for almost 2 and a half hours. I love F1 but do admire the stress these machines are put through.
When she gets close to Wheldon, she slows down. WHY ?
The turbulence from Dans' car reduces the amount of downforce on Danicas' vehicle as she gets closer making the car less managable.
Its weird seeing her not wreck
Nice part
heh wow...
its hard to tell where to start with this guy.
200+ mph.
Cant ever win if you keeo lifting your foot.
Wheldon wasn't exactly pulling away from her.
Actually think she had the speed and handling to take that car ahead of her.
She had the speed to pass him , but she didn't use it .. it takes nerve to keep the foot down hard when you lose some aerodynamic downforce through the turns when following closely , but thats what you gotta do if you're going to use the draft to its maximum benefit
Thats it. No pass or even try?
Turbulence.
She tried at the beginning, didn't have enough momentum, and that was it. Nobody in the top 10 was able to do anything.
12:04 radio: good job good job... wtf? she was clearly faster than that guy and coludnt pass him in 10 laps :S
somehow i felt sleepy...
Imagine doing that for 200 laps.
She still need to beat Wheldon one on one.
Change go daddy to go lady
oh shit you race indy cars?!
Like watching paint dry
you cant really validate the talent of a driver on tracks like this. i have no doubt indycar drivers are exceptionally talented but put them on better tracks. americans need to look at tracks like spa, suzuka, silverstone etc.
so lame but the speed is amazing and who said girls cant drive
she is a good driver but I noticed in the turns she backs off and slows down ever so slightly, maybe because she doesnt have balls? what do you think ?.
or perhaps her mechanics and pit crew dont prepare her car as well as her male team mates cars. I think go daddy should focus their main energy on danica and give her the best opportunity to win, and make that their priority.
never knew a kitchen on wheels could go so fast
10 laps of her following Wheldon to the finish line. Yawwwwwn. Click bait. Good thing I only watched 2 laps before I skipped the next 6.
How could the title be considered as clickbait in any way, shape or form?
boring...
a few times, she gets back and she lfts up!
no gutts!!
wanna come to Formula One? lol
So ole Danica Patrick is gonna take on and beat both Helio Castroneves and Dan Wheldon with 10 laps to go at Indy huh? LOL LOL LOL HA HA HA HA. TELL ME WHEN THE JOKE ENDS!
IndyCar needs more than boring drivers, organically, when no outsider comes in from F1 these guys does anyone care about?
Lifting too much.
come on. everyone loved you. Then you sit behind someone for the last 10 laps? ugh.
@Arch042766
usf1 not exist !!!
F1 World Championships start on March 14..
this American team where is ???
F1 not accept dubt project..
F1 is the real motorsport.
wow oval racing.. boring.. F1 is the shit!
left, left, left. how boring
Not to knock her but overall she's one of the worst drivers I've ever seen in a race car.. watch NASCAR you'll see what I mean she causes more accidents than anyone I've ever seen in my life.
