Therefore Raag Hemant, in which both Re and Pa are used (while descending), is the scale to represent the thumri Yaad Piya Ki aaye, written by Bade Ghulam Ali Khan upon the demise of her Wife
Hats off to Vijay Koparkar ji as always! I am surprised neither of the singers mentioned the very famous thumri in Raag Bhinnshadaj -- *Yaad Piyaa Ki Aaye* .
A lot of musicians actually sing it in Raga Hemant, using Re and Pa in descending. There is a varying opinion whether the thumri is in Bhinnashadaj or Hemant.

Raag hemant is conceived when we use pancham and rishabh in avroh in raag bhinna shadaj, just use pa and re in raag bhinna shadaj and you get hemant.

As Vijay ji and Mukund ji told here, the feeling of Sa shifts to Ma, this being a madhyam-based raga, and Ma being both vadi and nyas swar.
