To be honest Messi in the 2012-2013 season was on an absolutely unstoppable run and Barcelona looked like they could've won a treble that season but everything was ruined when the team found out that Tito Vilanova unfortunately had cancer which completely destroyed the mood of the team and on top of that Messi was dealing with hamstring injuries in the most important part of the season.
10/11 for me, he was so special. genuinely eveyrtime he touched the ball you just knew he was making something out of nothing. and also that legendary UCL campaign
I think his 2011 was his best in terms of Messi being at his best PHYSICALLY. He was fast, impossible to drop, just an insane specimen. But if we're talking about a pound-for-pound the best version of Leo, it has to be his 2019 season. I always felt like his football IQ peaked at that season. Also, one last point, 17/18 was better than the 2013 season. He was injured for a lot of games that season.

Like that 13/14 and 19/20 he was easiliy top 2 top 3 in the world, but compared to other seasons, he looked mid. Messi's lowest is the peak of others. If we also note, 21/22 Messi - his 'lowest' was statistically the same as 23/24 Vini with 38 g/a for both of them. Really puts things into perspective
14/15 Messi was the best and tbh, it's not a debate. He still had the dribbling ability of 2011 Messi (The Goal in the Copa Del Rey final vs Bilbao was a joke) and had the creativity of 2018 Messi. Plus the energy to combine perfectly with Suarez and Neymar. It was the greatest version of any footballer ever.

@DC-zi6se yes. Because he didn't need it..... 18/19 Messi was more calm and composed. Didn't need that explosiveness to get the job done. He played 10, 8 and 6 position consistently at GOAT LEVEL. It was also part due to his awful start in Madrid. Same happend in 14/15 to 15/16. Chelsea were so bad that next season I think he was the only Chelsea ballondor nominee (when e.g Fabregas should’ve easily been there) and he dropped a couple spots. It’s what happend to Foden this year although ballondor is last season based if you have a poor start for some reason journalists act as if it’s not based on the previous season

I've been a Barcelona fan since 2006 and I've watched almost every game since 2012 Additionally I usually really respect your opinion so I'm really looking forward to this!! Edit: okay 2 things I think it gets forgotten too often that in 12/13 Tito Vilanova(RIP), who's a beloved club legend, got diagnosed with cancer which definitely played a part in Barças lackluster end of that season And I think his 22/23 season deserves A tier, because his WC campaign was arguably one of the best oat and I'm pretty sure that his playmaking stats were phenomal for PSG But that's me being a bit nitpicky because I wanted to say something lol. Otherwise, another great video, that's why I rate your opinion rather highly
The fact that, that Barcelona team error had the greatest attacking trio and the greatest midfield trio in the history of football, in one period is crazy
Trio? More like trios? They've had like 5 of the best trios in history while Messi was there. Messi Dinho Eto'o, Messi Henry Eto'o, Messi Henry Ibra, Messi Villa, Pedro, Messi Neymar Suarez, etc
Messi at his peak (18/19) was a one man army and his treble and ucl promise was ruined by that rotten snake dembele. Although dembele fouled di maria in the wc final so some element of football justice there
Great Video, thank you! 😇⚽️🇦🇷🐐 I love Messi and I can see that you really have a great ball knowledge. I agree with your list, but for me personally 18/19 was the best and most complete Messi version ever. In addition I would have put 22/23 in A (second tier) just because of his unbelievable performances during the world cup 🏆🇦🇷🐐
I’d argue 21/22 in D-tier is harsh. I’m not saying it’s an all timer or anything, 6 goals is horrible, sure. But I think a lot of people bury that season under a pile of criticism without any context, and him winning the BO over Lewa soured a lot of people before the season even properly started. Pochettino having him on touch line winger duties at 34 is criminal, and really explains why he didn’t replicate his goal scoring form. But people forget he was arguably one of the best players in the UCL groups, he dragged that PSG team to the KOs with that performance at home against Man City, one of his most underrated goals (tho he was eventually disappointing against Madrid in the RO16). His assists numbers were still amongst the best in Europe that season, and would’ve been off the charts if not for Mbappé (despite being at his peak) squandering a ridiculous amount of chances. C-tier season imo, it just can’t be in the bottom tier with pre-retirement and teenage Messi.
Remember we are ranking Messi by MESSI standards,us as messi fans will understand context but to the general public it looks different.22/23 is one of his best seasons for me excluding the world cup but some people see it different just because he was in a discombobulated PSG side that was too attacker heavy with a bad defense and unstable midfield.
Love these tier lists Lyes! And as a Barca fan it is lovely to honour the GOAT, something that somehow doesn't happen enough haha. Keep up the great work!
18/19 bro almost won barca a TREBLE 💀 that is unheard of for how bad the overall team actually was. I’d prob agree with most these rankings but remember, Messi’s standards are so high that is why he has some seasons in D B and A. Those seasons in S tier are the best seasons in football history just from the eye test standpoint .
Barca only won la liga in 2018/19, but they won la liga and UCL in 2010/11. Not sure if you’re old enough to remember it, but imo 2010/11 is definitely the best
@LM10-s1r I’m not saying what Messi is better than the other. I’m saying that 2018/2019 Barca team was shit, and Messi almost solo’d them to a treble lmfao. Messi under Pep was his best years +2015.
For me the stark difference in the careers of Messi & Yamal, and the only thing that worries me about Yamal’s ceiling, is that Messi had so many talents to learn from. He took from xavi, Iniesta, zlatan, Henry, DINHO, and other world class, generational players. I truly believe that aided in Messi becoming the player he did. Who does Yamine have to learn from besides Lewandowski?
The "Messi learned from Ronaldinho" thing is getting boring now. Messi was always special. He would've achieved this level whether he played with these players or not. As for Yamal, I honestly don't think he's anywhere near messi in terms of natural ability. Yamals playmaking is insane at this age and is his best asset but I just don't see him scoring the amount of goals or anywhere near the amount that Messi did. Messi could do everything (create, score and dribble at an incredible level) even at a young age. Yamal is great but I honestly just think reaching Messi's individual level is virtually impossible. Yamals finishing is very bad as well. I know he can work on that but still....
18/19 season was an absolute joke. One game away from an invincible league and a treble. All crumbled in 1 week against 5-4 Levante where Coutinho scored a hat trick and the 2nd leg against Liverpool. The most heart breaking week as a Barcelona fan for me.

Messi has a lotta ways he can benefit from his teammates, he can feed poachers, combine with midfielders, synchronise with either fullback (Alves/Alba) and more. Bartomeu destroyed the team building so much that they'd probably not make top 4 without Messi
Even 21/22 and 2024 mls messi is like an A gy general standards. All C and above are S for most. And Messi's S is like X or something, hes an absolute glitch

2018/19 Messi is just God of football personified, the level of play that Messi displayed both in the league and Champions league is not conceivable for sane human being. The dribbles, the passes, the long range goals and the free-kicks you say it and Messi displays it at the level whose pinnacle is yet to be replicated by any other player. Also, the single-handed demolishion of ManU and Tottenham in the Chanpions league is yet to be replicated. If I have to put it in one sentence, it would be " GOD level of football".

10/11 Messi dribbling was outrageous and my favorite season but the 18/19 szn is the greatest version of Messi

14/15 messi and 18/19 messi were essentially the same players. But mere watching them, you can tell 18/19 messi was better. He took football to a whole other level. He had completed his game. 14/15 messi is his 2nd greatest version behind 18/19

It was also part due to his awful start in Madrid. Same happend in 14/15 to 15/16. Lyes thinking 2014/15 was Messi’s first truly elite playmaking season just sums up why EA sports never gave him over 84 passing all those years lol
Should be F tier by his standards. Not harsh at all.
It's Messi standards, Ballon d'Or performance for other player is average performance for Messi

You must not have seen 8 year old Messi bruh, and he was still cooking in La masia too, Ronaldinho gave him confidence that’s all
