I think Mao Mao's past there is 100% acurrate. Firstly, because it fits and explains a lot about his character, his family issues have been well stablished. Secondly, because the scene is a direct flashback, not the same as the Bao Bao flashback where it's clear Mao Mao is narrating these events on his biased perspective. This is like the audience actually seeing the event take place years ago.
And 3rd, It's not a romance with great but punctual events of heroism and villainy. It is a sequency of pure acts that was a conclusion of the beggining of mao mao's internalization of an awful characteristic in a beloved figure. And you know what? That is really like most traumas happen and I thought amanzingly mature of this show for showing that this way
Ol’ Blue is an interesting character to me for several reasons. I like that it’s not entirely clear whether or not his demeanor is intentionally different from the other Sweetypies. He appeared in a few episodes after this one, typically just by himself, which is a nice nod to scenes that happened in this episode. Maybe the reason why Adorabat impressed him far more easily was because he had known her for longer. The episode as a whole was pretty great, the scene where Badgerclops is talking to the Impressasaur about how he can’t say words because he’s dumb is probably the hardest I’ve laughed at this show so far. Mao Mao’s father constantly reminding... someone that he is his father was oddly funny too. I’m glad you’re giving this show the love it deserves :]
I never noticed that comparison actually! Yeah, I think both shows share a few things in common now that I think about it. No wonder Darkwing Duck was my favorite Disney Afternoon series.
I actually almost cried when he said “I KNEW YOU LOVED ME!” At 7:15 It’s actually heart breaking to see Mao Mao slowly break down throughput the episode and be so emotionally damaged. I really hope we can see more of Mao Mao’s childhood even tho we got enough of it already.
This episode could have easily gone bad and become mean-spirited. Compare this to "Nobody Likes TJ" from Recess. In that episode, Gordy seems to hate TJ from the very beginning, and the honest accidents TJ makes only causes Gordy to hate him more, such as accidentally serving him brownies that include an ingredient he is allergic to. While in this episode, Mao Mao's behavior becomes obsessively stalkerish and creepy, making Blue's distaste for him more justified.

Honestly I think mao mao is going to be one of the more popular things on cn, because it's newer and more refreshing like Victor and Valentino or infinity train, (also it's not ttg, so there's that) just hoping they start realizing what cartoons are better and more popular, and air them more.
Also notice Blue's reactions. He's not responding to Mao Mao in a cartoony way, he is _genuinely_ afraid. That's the look of someone who knows that their life is in grave danger!
The part where Mao Mao's about to eat the sour candy and Blue's waiting with bated breath to see Mao do it was my favorite part. It shows that Blue isn't some stuck up hipster who just acts like he's seen it all a million times before, but that he's impressed by things that probably wouldn't impress most people. That and it's super cute that he'd be impressed by something as simple as someone eating a sour candy. #OldBlue2020
I think Blue is impressed by effort. Everything he says inpresses him was something that looked like it was difficult and mentally uncomfortable to attempt. Considering hes a psychiatrist he would want to see people try and better themselves.
"I'm not impress" is my favorite Mao Mao episode I seen a lot of cartoon episodes involving "This non-villain character doesn't like the main character" And the main character try to do everything to take this character like them. This episode really impress me at ending of the episode: Mao mao really needs help and things he has done as gone too far
You make a good point about mao mao not haveing a great memory recall ability however i kind of hope his dad really did not care much for him. since the whole "son your wrong i love you and believed in you from the beginning" has been done to death in cartoons.
Yeah and this flashback feels more "real" you know? With the others, they have been made up and stylised to a "legendary" degree. The one where one with the lizard people or the one with Bao Bao where all done in very dramatic painting style images while this one was just done in the ordinary animation they always use. Also Mao Mao wasn't telling anyone about his memory, I feel like that's a factor too because I think when he talks about himself he, whether consciously or not, exaggerates for attention and a more epic story. This was just a private flashback that led him to embarrass himself in front of everyone.
This was one of my favorites too between this and Popularity Conquest. It was emotionally surprising and pretty amazing. The story their giving was phenomenal. The story was amazing.
It's like that one episode of Recess, where TJ is trying to make another student like him, except this makes more sense. Nothing against Recess, it's one of my childhood favorites, but still.
This has impressed so many audience (sorryXD). For real, episodes like this one really got me into the show, and I really hope they can keep that pace up. I bet even Thanos can't impress that puppy.

I'm not sure Mao Mao is completely exaggerating his relationship with his father because from the way Badgerclops talked about it in the first episode and how he commented it made sense in this episode, it seems he's experienced Mao Mao's relationship with his father firsthand and is more sympathetic when he called him out on how they first met, what really happened in one of their fights and his last adventure with Bao Bao (Even though he wasn't there for that one)
Personally, down the line of the show, I'd like to see a fight between Mao and his father. Heck, even his sisters! Not as a means to one-up them(maybe in his case), but more so as an emotional catharsis. All that pent up regret, bitterness, and resentment over the years of constantly living in his sister's and father's shadow while masking it as overconfidence and an inflated ego. Bonus points if we get to see him acting OOC (out-of-character)
I just really like the idea that the Sweetipies need a therapist. I mean, most of them NEED one but the idea that they recognized that is kinda funny to me. Pinky has court-mandated sessions and you can't change my mind
And then when Small rolled around, we see that maybe Mao Mao’s memory isn’t so accurate because he spends most of his mental energy repressing his trauma Then this is explored further in scared of puppets

I've had this multiple thoughts in that as well. He will either have to fight them (because they or one of them is actually a villain, or a villain who thinks they're in the right) or maybe someone (cough the fox cough) will snitch on Mao Mao but in a way that disappoints/brings shame to the family in their eyes.
its because humans crave acceptance and people to like them. if even one person doesnt it could feel more devastating than many other loving them. not all people are equal of course but its a human flaw, not an individual one

They were like that back in 2017 for sure, but things are slowly but surely getting better. SU still has another season after the movie, and they announced a bunch of upcoming series at SDCC this year. If you want a channel that purposely gets rid of new content, look at the current state of Nickelodeon.
I'm still waiting for one of these modern shows to attempt the true test of Cartoon Greatness...a Dodgeball episode. So many shows attempted to scale that peak, only a handful ever reached the summit. The crown, of course, going to either Disney's Recess or Monsters Vs Aliens as the two greatest examples of the greatest episode type in cartoondom.
