I listen to this every year on the Feast of St. Stephen, for which this piece was written. Being able to follow along with one of the original manuscripts was also a real treat. Thanks for the upload!
Hello! As a composition student, I would like to know if the recapitulation of the first 2 sections of the piece (Sederunt principes, et adversum me loqubantur: et iniqui persecuti sunt me) is written in the original score or if it's just a modern times interpretation! Thank you very much

The recapitulation is mandatory by liturgic use, it's not written.
...skilled performance - the only historical performance note I'd add is that the polyphony would have been performed by soloists, while the chant sections would have been done by the whole choir...
...there are lots of studies on the performance of organum, but a good place to start (in my totally biased opinion) is Penelope Turner's discussion here: www.musicandpractice.org/volume-1/notre-dame-organum-duplum-modern-edition/ She makes reference to the major studies that are most available, and compares various editions as well...
...it also is sort of common sense, in that the choir would have been a mix of people who could read the newly devised notation and those who could not - those who could would have most likely been the most accomplished singers, while the standard chant would have been something nearly everyone involved would have grown up with - just my $0.02...
This is a really good recording for being 821 years old.
1. all four voice together 2. discant sections 3. sustained tenor 4. organal style
Thx lol

Brillieant in every way. As fresh today as it was in 1200.
Thank you for the thoughtful video score.
Yo estoy aqui por voluntad propia
Sederunt principes, et adversum me loquebantur:
et iniqui persecunti sunt me.
Adjuva me, Domine Deus meus:
salvum me fac propter misericordiam tuam.
The best interpretation I’ve heard yet!👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿

Wow, now I see where Steve Reich got his inspiration for _Proverb._
Yeah i certainly hear Perotin's approach in Reich's works, not only in Proverb

Excelente video

Excelente
Are there 4 voices?
Yes. This is indicated by the "Organum Quadruplūm", which signifies that 3 voices were added to an initial Monophonic chant.
where did you get images of this manuscript?

hello, do you know whose execution is this?
David Munrow, dall'album music of the gothic era
