Everyone says Whitney, Mariah, and Celine when the conversation about covers come, but you have no idea how happy I was when you included vids of Aretha Franklin. Aretha was notorious about how she felt about others performing her music. Patti LaBelle was one of the few that got approval from her, in which she gave just a head nod for it. Her songs are just so peculiar to her singing that she even people like Mariah had to be very careful when performing.

I feel like it’s hard to say not to cover songs based on an artist’s personal connection because we obviously don’t always know how invested an artist is into a song. But I will say that people should stay away from songs that they can’t emote to the same level as the original artist. Demi is one of the best artists when it comes to putting their heart and soul into every note. Because of this, a lot of covers of “Skyscraper”, “Warrior”, “Sober”, and “Stone Cold” come off as flat. I’ve noticed this a lot too in the mid 2010s when everyone was covering Adele’s music. Sounded impressive but lifeless. Overall, I think a sense of self awareness is necessary. A lot of artists bite off way more than they can chew with covers and it definitely shows in execution. Great vid as always 👑

Indeed. There are certain songs and just artist period that you really shouldn’t try to cover. Micheal Jackson being a prime example, Anita Baker being another. It’s not that a person wouldn’t necessarily do a good job but it’s very hard to sing a particular type of song that either doesn’t fit your voice type or isn’t in your range. All I’m saying is if you’re going to do a cover, make sure it’s coming from the right place and try to always put your own spin on it. 🎼🎤
I think songs that end up with the worst covers or shouldn't be covered tend to be deeply personal ones where unless you have gone through a similar situation the emotional connection isn't there. For example there's an awful cover Camilla Cabao done of Someone You Loved (I think it's been referenced on here before) where as well as changing the arrangement she didn't connect emotionally to it. I don't think anyone could touch his song Before You Go for me because of this and it should be a don't cover. Dreaming Of You by Selena shouldn't be covered by anyone first of all she never had a chance to sing it live second the song is the universal reminder of how sweet her voice was... If you hear that song it should only be Selena's voice and no one else to prevent people by forgetting her
i think when it comes to songs that should never be covered for demi lovato, it would actually be sober. i feel like skyscrapers lyrics are a bit more universal, but someone singing sober as an official cover would straight up be insulting. covering ghosting by ariana would be pretty insulting too, and potentially one last time given the meaning behind manchester. i also agree with the christina song, im okay. i never heard petals by mariah before, but i think i will check it out rn
Ain’t No Other Man with Xtina shouldn’t been covered, requires way more agility than you can’t think of, I think that is one of the hardest songs from Xtina.
@@LostPassword-su7pc anyone and father i agree with. for the songs that shouldnt be covered, i was thinking more along the lines of how covering the song would be disrespectful, not the difficulty levels of it
I'm not sure if some songs from Ari's "Sweetener", "thank u, next" and "positions" can be adequately covered, but mostly because how "layered" the songs were made. I feel like if you don't put as much efforts and dedication in production as Ari and her producers have, you can sing the lyrics, but it just won't hit as the original songs, because the beauty of original songs lays in all those intricate layers of vocals and sounds, and if you just sing the songs stripped of their original beauty, it just wouldn't be... right? In my opinion. Also, I think, some songs by Taylor Swift are WAY too personal for other people to cover them. It just would feel so wrong and abusive to your ears. The best example probably is "All Too Well". This is her story. Her happiness, her pain, her sweat and her tears. Other people should back away and don't contaminate that sacred space.
agree. even live performances by ariana herself don't match how good the recording is. some songs are just made with a specific voice and time and place in mind. and yes. taylor's songs are a mix of the fact that she writes for herself. and i would say she has quite a unique way of singing and telling a story. i gave never heard anyone else's voice melt into her melodies the way hers does. another layer is that taylor does explicitly think about how the song will play live, so she's already beaten everyone to everything about the song before they even think of covering it. i like that you added the idea that some songs are far too personal aswell. it does make it feel strange, almost costumey when someone tries to emote someone else's detailed story. ❤
I feel that whenever I sing along to Marjorie. That song is sooo personal, and I know that she’s chosen to share it with us, but it still feels weird 😭.
I feel that if artists don’t want others to cover their song they can just say it though? Or just not release the song in the first place? I’m sure many people resonate with songs like all too well. Sure, maybe they don’t relate with the specifics of the song like dancing around the kitchen in the refrigerator light, but that feeling of a breakup I’m sure many people relate with. And even if they don’t actually feel those emotions, there’s nothing wrong with them covering these songs anyway. Singing and songwriting is an act, whether u actually feel these emotions at all, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that these emotions come across to the audience as genuine. Taylor is a master at this. She has her handful of songs that she actually experienced, but also, the whole of folklore is fictional, and that’s one of her best albums imo. You don’t need to actually experience something to act it out. Edit: actually I just rmbered that not all of folklore is fictional, e.g. my tears ricochet is about the controversy with her label I think
@@cckmyuxun3689 I feel like it's important what your intentions with a cover are and how you present it. I think, what Ain't No Other Fan talks in his video is when people aim to create their own original pieces, put new nuances and details to songs they cover to make them a new piece of art. So he brings up the point that everyone can try to sing some songs, theoretically, but would that be a morally right thing to do, if you are not skilled enough or if the classics bring memories and evoke moments in history, that no matter how hard you try you can't replicate, so if you try to sing some songs, no matter how hard your try you cannot make the song you cover feel truly "your own" and a new piece of art of the similar caliber as the original, because to most people it would always feel like a shadow of the original masterpiece. I think if people who know the original well listen to your cover and feel that you not only sang the lyrics well enough, but that you also added new nuances, meanings, feelings or maybe even shown how song's storytelling can be interpreted some other way, so if many knowledgeable ppl who listen to you can agree that you made a new, your own piece of art with your song, that is good enough to not be overshadowed by the original, but stand beside it in your listener's minds, then you did make a truly solid cover. I brought up a point that wasn't made in the video that some songs are too personal, and I think that there is no way somebody can sing All Too Well and bring same level of intensity of emotions that Taylor did, and for their cover to be truly compatible with the original and for many people, familiar with the original well enough, your cover to feel like a new artwork of a similar caliber, rather than somebody simply singing a song that they like. However, I do recognize that there are many valid opinions to be had about this topic. So I'm not trying to argue with you here, really, it's more like I'm explaining my point a bit more. I have to say, I did like the opinion that you brought up to the conversation with your reply, I do think that it's valid, too.
Divas who made the covers better than the original versions: Demi Lovato - Hello by Lionel Richie Whitney Houston- I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton Christina Aguilera- Lady Marmalade climax by LaBelle Miley Cyrus- Like a Prayer by Madonna Reba McEntire- The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia by Vicki Lawrence P!nk- Lady Marmalade second verse by Labelle
I could have answered the question to this video before even watching it... Simply don't. 🤷🏿♂️ Don't do it. Just don't. Don't try to attempt the classics, and then you can't ruin them. 👍🏿
For me, classic songs are timeless songs that had been written with lyrics that transcends time. It's the "soul" of those classic songs' written words and melody that speaks to a lot of people across every generation is the VERY reason why those were considered as timeless masterpieces. In my honest opinion, doing a rendition of a classic song should not be a crime because it is released for the world to enjoy and for others to sing those songs, too. But butchering a classic song by not understanding the "inspiration" that come out of those lyrics and melody is DEFINITELY a crime. Many singers and their respective vocal coach try to reinvent these classic songs and it was a disaster and truly an epic failure. This is due to many reasons like injecting too much runs/riffs here and there and/or changing the melodic arrangement way too much that it becomes unrecognizable. Learn to internalize and live through the writer's conveyed message and create THAT "atmosphere" (or as what Kelly Clarkson said, "MOMENT") in which both YOU and the SONG become as ONE.
We know this definitely is not towards bey specifically none of her covers have ever been extra or abrasive or even ruined I honestly can’t thing of one she’s always stayed on theme of the original song with a little something added to make it here

Wow! That was the first cover by Miley that I didn't really care for. I wish people would stop trying And I Will Always Love You in Whitney's style because it's overdone really and I feel like you have to nail it or it'll be really awful. Also, I think the deeply personal songs should be off limits as covers unless it's something you have experienced. That way you can identify with the emotion accurately. Ok that's all. 😊

I feel Beyoncé’s cover of “I’d Rather Go Blind” and “All I Could Do Is Cry” by Etta James is one of the best covers of a song I’ve ever heard.
I feel the same about Celine Dion’s original cover of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” by Elvis Persley.
Phenomenal covers!
I love Taehyung's cover of Adele's someone like you
You're right. Someone covering Petals or I'm Ok would feel... off
If you guys don't know, Ailee (prefer her voice) also did you raised me up and absolutely love her voice. Again my preference.
Dreaming Of You by Selena shouldn't be covered by anyone first of all she never had a chance to sing it live second the song is the universal reminder of how sweet her voice was... If you hear that song it should only be Selena's voice and no one else to prevent people by forgetting her
Yessss!!! So Hyang my Queen!!!
I love DC version of Silent Night btw

Y’all are so precious and unforgiving. If you’re going to cover a song, don’t try to imitate the original. Bring something new to the game.
Petals, I’m ok are so personal, hope nobody sings that songs
For me personally, any aretha Franklin songs, should not be touched❤
I don’t think any songs from Whitney, Mariah, Celine, MJ, Alanis or Janis Joplin should be touched either.
i think when it comes to songs that should never be covered for demi lovato, it would actually be sober. i feel like skyscrapers lyrics are a bit more universal, but someone singing sober as an official cover would straight up be insulting. covering ghosting by ariana would be pretty insulting too, and potentially one last time given the meaning behind manchester. i also agree with the christina song, im okay. i never heard petals by mariah before, but i think i will check it out rn
Ain’t No Other Man with Xtina shouldn’t been covered, requires way more agility than you can’t think of, I think that is one of the hardest songs from Xtina.
Anyone, Father or Eat Me by Demi shouldn’t be covered either.
@@LostPassword-su7pc anyone and father i agree with. for the songs that shouldnt be covered, i was thinking more along the lines of how covering the song would be disrespectful, not the difficulty levels of it

Who's singing You Raise Me Up at 6:22?
Sohyang
@@leafrcn Thank you
@@bre_me You're welcome :)
great vid as always
I love Im ok by Xtina and love singing it because I relate. Her story is also my story.
@@essay_sparklesI don’t completely agree, but I see your point
Divas who made the covers better than the original versions:
Demi Lovato - Hello by Lionel Richie
Whitney Houston- I Will Always Love You by Dolly Parton
Christina Aguilera- Lady Marmalade climax by LaBelle
Miley Cyrus- Like a Prayer by Madonna
Reba McEntire- The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia by Vicki Lawrence
P!nk- Lady Marmalade second verse by Labelle
Do a vocal analysis of Samara Joy and Jai'len Josey. I'd love to hear your thoughts on them...
“Without fighting for their life.” 😂😂😂
I'm okay with covering songs. But, simgers should give justice to it and of course they have the VOICE to do it.
I agree - probably shouldn't cover Praying by Kesha unless you've been in a similar situation, whatever "similar" means.
Oh God JLo no.
Yesss Ailee
Learn to internalize and live through the writer's conveyed message and create THAT "atmosphere" (or as what Kelly Clarkson said, "MOMENT") in which both YOU and the SONG become as ONE.
talk that talk in the intro. niiice
We know this definitely is not towards bey specifically none of her covers have ever been extra or abrasive or even ruined I honestly can’t thing of one she’s always stayed on theme of the original song with a little something added to make it here
Ok wait 💀 silent night from bey doesn’t count cause it was there version of the song off there album lmfaooooo oh heavens
Sam bailey cover of Skyscraper is brilliant
I don't think there should be any limits, the world is vast and there is surely someone who would resonate with a particular song and blow your mind, until that happens though get used to the sacrilegious covers and always remember the original is still there for you, nothing is ruined.
I agree. I feel that everyone interprets music differently and should be allowed to perform it their own way unless the main artist says otherwise.
Could someone inform me, what is the channel owner qualification in music? Thanks!
Charlie Puth has perfect pitch and I'm convinced he's a masochist.
haha the beyoncé disclaimer 😆👌🏼 👏🏼

My favorite is still Britney Spears, covering Satisfaction. If you haven't seen it, you should. An experience of a lifetime.
Hmm I thought Christina and Demi sounded good in those I Will Always Love You Clips 😂 And I thought Nicole sounded good in the Cats song
I’m an insane lamb and have all of Mariah’s songs ranked from best to worst and they’re color coded to the era they hail from. Petals is my #2, and similarly Outside is my #1. You won’t catch me covering either one of those ever. Ever. They’re just too special to her story.
When Whitney covered someone's song, she made it her own and something better. When others try to sing like Whitney, 99% fail.
Idk if you watched it, but i think Demi lovato's live show two days ago proved that she is one of the best vocalist of the generation. My jaw dropped! You look like someone who really knows vocals, i would like to read of hear your opinion about it ! Thank you :)
I miss those video's when people use to discuss every note that came out of their mouth! Sadly they're not popular anymore so i won't get any reliable objective infos lol
Petals 🥺😭😭❤️
Mariah Carey is good at covering songs. It makes it her own.
