Magik Maths: How to Draw a Hexagon Grid by Hand!

  • Today we play with an interesting property of the bestagon (hexagon) what'll allow us to draw it in a grid!
    Do note that this technique will make getting a perfect grid of hexagons very much impossible as small imperfections early in get compounded in exterior rings.

    I haven't heard that day night geographical location in long time! I hope you and yours are well.
    Good focus in the video and one I appreciate most, good clear audio. well done.

      I was thinking of dubbing over with the proper mic due to this being all phone audio, but figured that most wouldn't mind the left ear love! Thanks Rawny, life is good and I hope the best for yous toos!

    I love this video, but screw trying to do this with a cheap compass. I used to own some nice drafting tools, but have lost them over the years. Thanks to this video, I may buy a nice compass, again.

      Good video, but homie, you NEED a better compass. You should never turn the paper to make your circles! Look for the staedler brand, they’re readily available and they sell replacement led (they include some as well). I recommend getting their mechanical pencil that takes the same thick lead as it has a sharpener built into it. Signed, a former math teacher and current mathematical artist 😊

    How do you take the compass? If you take it on the edge of the top its easyest

    • @MagikEh
      @MagikEh  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had to hold this one as shown because it's not a very good compass, if I held it from the top edge (hinge) while drawing it would slowly open up. If you have a nicer compass it makes using it a lot easier :D

      More to soon come. I've found a nice ratio that allows you to work in a grid like pattern!

    How would you do it on a whiteboard?

    • @MagikEh
      @MagikEh  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rather than a protractor, use a stick of length r with the marker taped to one end (or hot glued?) and an eraser (or other rubber point) on the other end.
      I really need to get on that other video showing the grid method, makes laying out larger surfaces easier

      That makes sense, I figured something like that! I'll give it a try soon. Thanks for replying

    This seems like a lot of work. Why not just measure out a vertical skip distance for overall hex and the length of the vertical lines. Then the horizontal distance between the lines. Then mark the edges of the paper at the top and bottom with the horizontal distance. Then, match the ruler on top and bottom and draw a line at the line length Then a skip of the skip distance. Then move to the next set of dots at the edge and repeat. Once done. Line the ruler up diagonally to the tips of the lines. Them repeat the ither direction. Boom, a hex grid

      Because that can be harder, when I tried making a hex-grid with a ruler it was a pain. You would still need an accurate hexagon to go off off for your idea to work. But if you know what you’re doing then go for it!
