Trent, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule and making these informative videos! I'm grateful I found your channel and will be coming back for more. Much appreciated sir!
@@trent_dyrsmid In general: You're talking us through a logical sequence of detailed events in a good pace. Although it's more than an hour I never got bored. :-) What I specifically liked was seeing how all the info on the approach chart translates to the cockpit. Also following the missed approach procedure was fun. Wouldn't mind seeing some more SID/STAR/GPS/ILS/VOR/DME/holding/missed approach chart stuff. 😊👍
Thanks, this was amazing video to follow along. I am also playing MSFS24 and I really enjoy diving into deeper details of ILS approaches to make my flights as realistic as possible! I was following along with a pen and printed IAPs and pausing the videos to read more about DA/MDA, VDP and RVRs. This was hugely useful 2 hours. If I may ask a question: what is the No Procedure Turn? I understood that you've read the plate and figured that you don't need to fly a hold pattern in WIDUG, but what would be the procedure if there are no "NoPT" marking on a plate? Would you need to go on a hold pattern and do one circle before proceeding to YEGUR or hold until cleared by the tower?
@@Money_m4rch when flying IFR, once ATC releases you from the system, you would squawk VFR (1200) and then switch to whatever radio frequency you needed to be on next.
You mention that the runway must be in sight by 4,050 altitude. I don't see that number anywhere on the approach plate. Could you please explain where we get this data on the plate? Thanks for the excellent vidio.
Hey Trent new sub, just picking up flight sim again, used to play around with it as a kid and was never any good, now as a fixed wing flight medic, picking it up more for mine and my crews safety more than anything. My company has made the decision to go single pilot in all of our aircraft, King Air 200 and 350s. So in the event of pilot incapacitation, it’s just my partner and I to save ourselves. These vids on IFR and autopilot have really gotten me off the ground on MSFS, but Im having a lot of trouble with landing, particularly the landing smoothness score, any chance you could give some tips or do a video at some point? The lessons in MSFS weren’t very helpful. As a suggestion for an Approach for a vid, ANC or JNU are both ILS approaches that offer significant challenges.

I'm not sure what MSFS uses as parameters for determining smoothness and I'm not sure if I can help but I can tell you many sim pilots try and fly the plane onto the runway versus using a landing flair. You should be trying to land at the slowest airspeed possible, ideally stalling onto the runway. Hopefully the main gear wheels are just touching the runway as the plane stalls. Maintain a stabilized (fixed airspeed) approach until approximately a wing span above the runway, this is where to begin the transition to the landing attitude. Bring the nose of the airplane up and just below the horizon, at half a wing span level flight attitude. Now for the hard part, judging how high you are above the runway. You want to bring the nose of the airplane above the horizon without climbing, it's a slow increase in back pressure on the yoke control to maintain a landing or stall attitude.attitude. You should have full back elevator as you touch down. Let me also say, landing at the stall speed is like hitting a hole in one on the golf course.

@ thanks! And otherwise, if no “NOPT”?
@ there is no otherwise. If there is no procedure turn, you turn towards the runway, following the headings on the plate.
Hi trent, amazing video once again thank you. Quick ?, what was the reason you changed the transponder to squawk + altitude?

Auto pilot on at 500’ above the ground, I thought I heard. Same is true when going missed on an IFR procedure?
