This performance, and the BLH album, are incredible to me - profound even. Totally aside from the indisputable artistry, the vivid modern interpretations of old traditional tunes and the stunning vocals (solo and harmony) are truly special. On Blackwaterside I swear Anais *became* the fiery female narrator of the song. Like peering through the spyglass perfectly back in time. Amazing…. Thank you Anais, Josh, Eric 🙏
Listened to their wonderful music then checked out utube...my head swiveled saying, no it can't be, is that Anais Mitchell?? The mega superstar of the ridiculously brilliant, Broadway's Hadestown 🤯💕
Lovely set - I'm a great Anais fan following her work on Live from Here and with the folk music of the Child ballads (esp with the lovely Jefferson Hamer)...
I wonder if there's a connection between The Roving and earlier versions of Black Waterside...like another version/telling/outcome, more gente or freer
Great music and harmonies. I was really surprised to find out it was the same Anias from Hades Town, she was so Musical Theatre in the NPR performance, and so very different as a folk musician.
Somewhere - some live performance from about this time - they mention that a lot of the songs from the first record are in dadfad - DADF#AD - not positive about this one, though...
Am I mad, or have Eric and Anaïs each swapped a bridge pin? Eric has a single black bridge pin and Anaïs has a single white. Going to assume not a coincidence 🖤
Roving of Her Eyes must be one of the most beautiful breaking -of- the -heart songs EVER.
Just instant sobbing as soon as she sings that first line.
This Dubliner agrees

See you at Fresh Grass. You've convinced me to do so with this performance. Thanks.
