    Extremely well documented video. You make an excellent point about safety and keeping your eyes on the road, given the location of these tiny but very cool screens. I will now think twice about adding this to my 993.

    Very interesting video, I love your car and your enthusiasm and I will add a PCCM to my 911 (993) shortly.
    I would however say that having this unit in my car paired to my phone will make my life much better when my daughter insists on texting or calling me when I’m out for a drive, a simple hands free response of I’m sorry I’m driving will safe me pulling over all the time.

    I disagree on the maps as with Apple CarPlay you don’t really even need to look at the screen because all you do is listen for the voice prompts “in 400 metres, turn left onto Smith Street”. I think the head unit pros outweigh the cons. I’ve watched your video and still ordered one for my 944 and 968. Great speaker install job.

    I was considering getting this unit for my '89 Carrera 3.2 to replace its original Blaupunkt radio (no gap in my dash haha). But after watching your video, I don't think it makes much sense. Maybe just better to stick my phone on the windshield if need be to navigate myself, and use the engine as my radio! Great video Alex, and thank you for the brilliant advice and sincerity!

    Great video and sick coco mats. I think one of the biggest plusses of these units is the ability to put on navigation through the speakers. I take mine on road trips and one of the biggest gripes is not being able to have google maps read me directions loud and clear. The music and the car play and the maps, eh could take it or leave it.

    Wow! This video is super well done, thanks! The end result is 100% class and the spirit of staying period correct while enjoying some perks of modern tech. Made me laugh with your comment on the map feature. Wish they had a version that provided a screen that came out when turned on and recessed when turned off. I have subscribed your channel. Love it. • @550LMS
    @550LMS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good review. The screen is ''useless'', but on the other hand, so long it's got the voice talking to you that's 90% of the job done. I normally have my phone next to me down by the gear lever and if there is a complicated junction ahead or quick series of instructions a 1 second glance is normally enough to understand what's happening (not sure how it is in the States, but in Europe the google lady often goes on -at length- about which turn offs to take and has a habit of giving the full name of whichever road you're supposed to take, even on highways. Sometimes these names are so long, by the time she's finished you're WAY passed, lol).
    How is the interaction with spotify? Though I guess it's controllable via phone as well and you just hit whichever playlist suits anyways...

    • @AlexBeras
      @AlexBeras  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s exactly it! You definitely depend on the voice for instructions! 😂

    It had Apple car play right? And are the apps usable? (apart from being very small). I'm thinking about for example waze (social navigation app).
    I saw one short video where they didn't focus on the user interface, but they showed a very short clip, and it looked EXTREMELY slow (aka car navigator from 2003 or something), but maybe that was just during some startup? Is that something you have noticed?

    • @AlexBeras
      @AlexBeras  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mine is the Gen 1 version. Gen 2 which is the current classic radio for sale now has CarPlay. For what I need mine for, I knew I wouldn’t need CarPlay , but for streaming Bluetooth: in this capacity, it works good enough! 😂

    Hi Alex. Thank you for such a great video. I'm considering purchasing this radio for the exact same reasons you did. I really would like to know, how well does it pair with an iPhone? Does it recognize it automatically and all is good? Or is it a chore to get it together? I was thinking I would forgo even having the gps antenna installed as well as the usb ports on the shift tunnel. Thank you again for such a nice video!

    • @AlexBeras
      @AlexBeras  ปีที่แล้ว

      It was my pleasure to share. It all comes together quite seamlessly. The more I live with it, the more glad I am that I picked this over any other unit available in the marketplace. Pairs very easily to the iPhone just like any factory system would and should. The USB ports do come in handy for charging. It’s not the most visibly satisfying addition, but it does work well.

      Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures of the cracks from before. It was a quarter length small crack that was addressed with industrial grade filler, and blended in with navy colored airbrushing which makes it undetectable. I was really happy with the results. They spent a few hours on it, and their shop rate is between 120-150 an hour which is standard in NY. But I added in new speakers, for the doors in the factory locations, and they added in an amplifier to add extra umph and clarity to the sound. I can’t remember what I paid, but it was worth it. All in, with new wiring, it was just north of $1000- which was fair two years ago. Prices change so I’m not sure what it would cost now. I wanted it done right by the right guys who don’t make compromises so I don’t have to do the work twice.
