Caravane Culturelle de la Paix Mali
cultural peace caravan from Mali with an impassioned call for peace
The famous Festival au Désert that was held in Timbuktu for more than ten years was forced to quit in April 2012 after the violent raid by Islamists in northern Mali. Along with the Festival sur le Niger in Segou and the desert festival ‘Taragalte' in South Morocco these three festivals travel as a cultural peace caravan throughout the world with a passionate cry for peace. This summer they do Europe and the Netherlands. The three festival directors and initiators of this Caravane, Manny Ansar, Mamou Daffé and Halim Sbaï respectively, have indicated they will attend ‘Hertme’. They will give a short message prior to the concert.
The group ‘Malikanw’ (voices of Mali) includes a wide variety of musicians including guitarist Samba Touré from Niafunké, who follows in the footsteps of his famous deceased master Ali Farka Touré, the ‘king’ of the Sokou (one-stringed violin), Zoumana Tereta from Segou, also Tuareg guitarist Ahmed Ag Kaedy from Kidal, designated ‘best guitarist of Mali’ at Sikasso’s artistic and cultural biennial of Sikasso in 2010, the very energetic Wassoulou singer Sadio Sidibé, Petit Goro from the Dogon Country (Mopti), the new Mandingo golden voice Cheick Siriman Sissiko from Kayes, the flamboyant 'warrior' Ben Zabo etc.
Coming from the Moroccan Sahara and part of the caravan is ‘Génération Taragalte’. These musicians are inspired by Ali Farka Touré and the famous Tuareg group Tinariwen.
The music of these 14 musicians leads the audience to the obvious conviction that the people of Mali are deeply aspiring to peace
