As a competitor, Jamahal's reaction is all too familiar. It's easy to get emotionally caught up in a result, especially when there's so many people telling you that you will fail. For many competitors, often times your self worth is tied directly to your ability to showcase your skills, and any failure to do so can cause extreme emotional pain. I can absolutely relate to Jamahal, as his reaction is mostly fueled by the fans. Even casuals, people who Jamahal would deem utterly clueless, called for this exact result. The hit my ego would take in that situation would be massive. That being said, his continued social media outbursts are in bad taste, and take away from Pereira's victory, which I consider to be really bad sportsmanship. For his own sake he should keep these thoughts to himself, because seeking the respect and admiration of others too strongly will only hurt you. Ultimately it's healthier for your ego to simply strive to improve your own skills everyday, rather than endlessly try to prove your skill to others.
I really hate that Jamahal got himself into this. He's a fantastic fighter and he used to come across as a very cool guy but he can't stop fighting with the fans for the silliest reasons these days. Someone should take his phone away so he can focus and come back stronger. As a competitor, Jamahal's reaction is all too familiar. It's easy to get emotionally caught up in a result, especially when there's so many people telling you that you will fail.
For many competitors, often times your self worth is tied directly to your ability to showcase your skills, and any failure to do so can cause extreme emotional pain. I can absolutely relate to Jamahal, as his reaction is mostly fueled by the fans. Even casuals, people who Jamahal would deem utterly clueless, called for this exact result. The hit my ego would take in that situation would be massive.
That being said, his continued social media outbursts are in bad taste, and take away from Pereira's victory, which I consider to be really bad sportsmanship. For his own sake he should keep these thoughts to himself, because seeking the respect and admiration of others too strongly will only hurt you. Ultimately it's healthier for your ego to simply strive to improve your own skills everyday, rather than endlessly try to prove your skill to others.

I really hate that Jamahal got himself into this. He's a fantastic fighter and he used to come across as a very cool guy but he can't stop fighting with the fans for the silliest reasons these days. Someone should take his phone away so he can focus and come back stronger. It's true people overlooked him before the Poatan fight but he shouldn't pay attention to what fans - mostly casual fans - say. Poatan is just on a huge run now and he's getting all the attention. Hill needs to capture the imagination of the fans in the cage, not on his phone rants. I'm rooting for him
