    Very good advice about buying a set versus buying singles of colors you like. Totally agree with that. I have done that for watercolors also. Works for me. 😊

    I just watched your Mini-Workshop, I really liked it. I was late unfortunately but I am going to finish what I started with your inspiration of breaking up a page. Thank you.

    Congrats taking time off. We all should without regret or shame. I have the same kind of pencil bag! Mine have sheep lol

    Just ordered the book! Can’t wait to have it in my hands! I definitely understand about not keeping the pencils in a box. That’s how I am. Loved seeing your favorite art supplies and tools!

    I truly appreciate that you encourage folks to use the materials they already have & remind us we do not need to run out and buy the materials that are your faves. And that there is no "magic" pen that will solve our drawing problems. Thank you!

    Do you use anything for white highlights? Colored pencil or pen?

    • @KoosjeKoene
      @KoosjeKoene  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sometimes i use a white Caran d'Ache Neocolor I crayon

    • @KoosjeKoene
      @KoosjeKoene  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But actually, for highlights, i try to use the white of the paper (by not painting everything and keeping the highlights white)

    What about paper? Do you have preferred one?

      I like Hahnemühle Nostalgie sketchbooks because of the smooth paper. Hahnemuhle also has great watercolor sketchbooks. And Stillman&Birn has great sketchbooks with mixed media paper.

    Thanks for the reminder that the choice of sketch medium is a personal one! Sketching is always at least partly a private activity (even when we sketch in public) so we all need to find the medium that best clears the path toward expressive and descriptive drawing. We also liked the lead-in with fountain pens- they give so much subtle line variation that's unavailable with tube-feed or fiber tip pens. Artists are often intimidated by these more traditional writing/drawing instruments, but they really aren't difficult to use or maintain. Lamy is a great starter pen, affordable and a great bargain for the quality and performance. We think piston converters are a must for artists, not just because they are thrifty, but also because you can use any color of ink that's fountain-safe (check the ink package, there will usually be a symbol). The converter can also be used to rinse the pen between colors- cool water only! (Hot water can cause separation between delicate parts and cause the nib to leak) Converters are also great for occasional flushing with pen cleaning solution, which removes residue from the feed mechanism.

    Wonderful! Thank you for sharing - I especially liked the idea of individually buying the pencils and crayons in your favourite colours, rather than the whole sets. A joy to watch 👏😊

    I have both the larger Sailor fude pens, green and blue, they are both excellent. I did not know that you can use the planting m carbon ink in other fountain pens, I have Lamy ArtPen and a few others but really like waterproof ink. Currently using a brown oak gall ink that turns warm black as it ages. Watercolours are an addiction!

    Dear Koosje, How do you prevent the waterproof ink in your pens from drying up and clogging your pens? Thank you very much.

    You are so sensible to say, put your set of coloured pencils in a pencil case and then you won't be precious about them. I never have done that with my watercolour ones and I never use them 😭
