    B2EMO is the new droid introduced in Star Wars Andor, the Lucasfilm and Disney+ Star Wars live-action Rogue One spin-off by Tony Gilroy starring Diego Luna. When Maarva Andor died in "Daughter of Ferrix", we saw how it affected B2. Today we explore droids like R2-D2, C-3PO and others and how droids feel emotion in the Star Wars universe. We are days away from the Andor finale (episode 12).

      To suggest that I love this video with all of my heart is a gross understatement of my emotions right now. What a masterful presentation on our beloved droids. B2’s stature as a principle player in Andor puts him right beside R2, 3PO, and Chopper. I’ve always been drawn to the droids of Star Wars (of course you already know this), and the scene of B2 “wanting Maarva”….. I just can’t. The lump in my throat… and I’ve felt this lump in SW before… with R2, with Chop, even with 3PO in ROS. Thank you, Meg, for spending some time with B2 and our loyal and lovable droids. ❤

    B2 won my heart when he raced over to welcome Cass into their home as if he were giving him a big hug. This display of emotion was right up there with R2's little screams (wheee!). B2 had probably mourned the death of Marva's husband, but was comforted by Ma-Marva and Cass. His companion bond with Marva is definitely being felt in her absence.

    The screen writing for this show has been simply outstanding. From the emotions of B2EMO to the multiple applications of the concept of “the axe forgets but the tree remembers.” Practically every character in this series has been developed more than the most developed characters in the sequel trilogy. I’m sad that we are almost to the end of the first season and won’t see season 2 for a couple years, but at least I’m confident that it will be worth waiting for.

    • @stevebreedlove9760
      @stevebreedlove9760 ปีที่แล้ว

      100% 100% after the third episode I was explaining to a friend that Timm's motivation was fleshed out better than any character in the sequels. I cared more about a character with very little screen time who dies in the first arc than the leads in most movies and shows. I mean not to throw shade but Din Djarin has such a simple motivation: being a good mandalorian and upholding his creed. And its one dimensional. With Timm, its not until after Aldhani that Bix tells Cassian that timm was jealous and thought Cass and Bix were back together. But it was pretty clear in the little dialogue he delivered, the way he tried to follow Bix and then was spying on her at the bar. I have to check again but i think he said something to Bix about wanting to start a family. Cassian was painted as a dead beat (Bix says this after aldahni) and Timm just wanted to free Bix from that trap thats all too real world, where women cant move on from that one charismatic ex-lover even if he is a piece of shiz.

    • @kevint1911
      @kevint1911 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevebreedlove9760 I hear what you are saying about Din Djarin but keep in mind that he is on a journey of discovery. He was kept in the dark by his clan about the complete Mandalorian culture. As he learns more he is evolving. A good example is the willingness to make sacrifices for things that are important to him. He wouldn’t remove his helmet to engage with the widow in the first season. That pull wasn’t strong enough to bend his values. But when he comes into contact with Grogu things change. He violates the Guild code to rescue Grogu. Then he removes his helmet to save Grogu and to make a emotional connection with him. His values start out as basic and inflexible until they have to change.
      Cassian is similar. As you said, he’s viewed as a selfish deadbeat. He’s a thief but he steals to try to establish a better life, especially for Marva. Until she rejects him then he goes back to his selfish ways until the empire enslaves him in the prison. Even after that, he is selfish. He gives Melshie a blaster, sure, but no money. He still isn’t a rebel with ideals, he’s just a man trying to survive under the sometimes crushing grip of the empire. We are about to see something that will push him to do terrible things for the rebellion because he is learning that doing nothing can still ruin your life.
      Star Wars is best when it developers the characters on their journey towards destiny.
      The sequels sucked in large part because they did a terrible job of developing the characters. Solo, was also weak in this regard. The story should have been about 2 things (IMO). First was how Han became the owner of the Millennium Falcon. They did a good job with that. More importantly, they should have solidified how Han and Chewie became best friends. They did not do a good job here. Han did help Chewie escape but he never really sacrificed anything to earn his undying love and life debt. I thought he could have easily done that by sacrificing the mission to actively help Chewie rescue the other Wookiee, especially if they had been his actual family. But instead, Han basically Han let’s Chewie go off on his own while Han continues towards his own goals.

    Like a loyal pet, or a very young child that doesn’t understand death, B2 wanted to stay, thinking that she will come back home like she always has many times before, but sadly she will never come back home, and B2 is now stuck in painful loop, living in the past where the memories are. That is a very unhealthy way to grieve. I hope B2 gets all the love he needs to move forward in life.

    The aptly named B2EMO is just so both heart warming and heart-rending! The droid trope has been elevated for the SW universe. It is a sad that they seem to have sentience as we’ve seen droids used poorly as soldiers just as the clones were. So hope he gets a good home.

    • @frederickblack1456
      @frederickblack1456 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The damage probably comes from raiding imperial ships like the one Marva & Clem was raiding when they found Casian. This seemed to be there job they were pirates that’s why is turned out to be able to fly all kinda ships just a thought 💭

    • @QuestionMan
      @QuestionMan ปีที่แล้ว

      @@frederickblack1456 Equally possible. But, it assumes that Bee was brand new when they found Cassian. Also, Cass was still quite young when Clem died, and it's implied (not certainly, but likely) that Maarva retired after that. So, Bee would have had to accumulate a lot of damage in a very short period of time.
      That said, it is possible that his damage could have come as a result of just one sideways job early on after adopting Cassian, which does change the metric in explaining his malfunctioning state. Yes, equally possible.

      he's like the casualties of war you never think of. Him and Cassian are brothers, he's more than a pet but does have parallels. Im glad some of the people helping after Maarva died knew how he felt. Not treating him as an appliance etc. I think mind wipes are done because they do have sentience, and emotions. They 'get' how humans aren't like machines but how they are more alike than they want to admit, even as they abuse and belittle them.

    R2-D2 was an astromech droid sent, with several other Astromechs to do ship control repairs during a space battle between Naboo Starship and Separatists starships seeking to kidnap Queen Padme Amidala. Even after losing most of his repair team, Artoo completed the control system repair alone while under fire and attack. Also, Artoo regretfully had to attend the funeral of 2 of his owners: former Queen/then Senator Padme Amidala of Naboo, and Princess / then General Leia Organa-Solo of Alderaan (Daughter of Padme/Sister of General Master Luke Skywalker, Jedi Knight)
    C-3PO was actually built by your Anakin Skywalker from spare parts found at the salvage yard he worked at on Tatooine. Cethrepio's original body was gray not gold. After he sacrificed himself to save Padme, she had him rebuilt better with the gold body. It was after his first mind wipe that C-3PO forgot that Anakin Skywalker built him.

    Master Meg. I would like to imagine in the future there is a different kind of droid. I have a concept for a vary basic type of droid that is more customizable than an astromech and BB8 style droid with more function than both. With different companion droids that also serve a function and can interact and play games with the main droid.

    I have also wondered what B2s function actually was, it’s never very clear. Perhaps it was programmed just to be a companion, in which case a great deal more emphasis would have been placed upon its ability to interact with sentient’s, in this case humans than on other tasks that droids can be useful for. Just a thought.

    I don't know if this clarifies anything at all, but I've seen a discussion before on a forum and the understanding is that all droids are capable of sentience and ergo emotions, but many droids are prevented from having them through resets --- i.e. C3PO. But R2D2 probably has full sentience because he's hardly been reset at all. That will probably make the Droids the oldest slave race in the galaxy, since their existence predates humans and maybe even the Rakata.

    Interesting to think what might happen with B2EMO. He's gone by the time of Rogue One, or at least isn't present. And Andor has a K2SO as a droid companion. What if the "consciousness" of K2SO is B2EMO? Andor reprograms (replaces?) K2SO with B2EMO's brain? Although, I guess if that were to be the case, K2SO would probably have been renamed B2EMO.

    It’s not that droids can feel necessarily but they’re all manufactured with learning CPUs and programming and thus have the ability to ‘learn’ responses to events.

    This always made me wonder what T3-M4 was going through after KOTOR II. B2 is one of my favourite characters in Andor, for me he's the talking less sassy R2-D2. R2 seemed to want to stop existing after Luke shutting himself away, until the chance of getting him back that is.

    I understand the variety of droid emotes based on two things similar to the animal kingdom. The first factor is the complexity or programming of the droid. Secondly, we must consider the history of interactions the droid has with sentient beings. I think the quality and quantity of sentient interactions imprints on the droid over time. A death star droid would evolve much differently than a droid used exclusively in a home for a generation or more. A newborn donkey who imprints on a human within a few hours of birth will have a different personality than one who doesn't and adapts to human behavior to communicate. I think some droids who have become highly empathetic to pain in sentient beings will react to physical mistreatment out of conditioning, which is why Jabba's droids get that "tortured" out of them. He doesn't want empathetic droids who might protect those who disobey him.

    This is why I loved the episode of Visions so much that had the Jedi droid, TO-B1. I know it strays a bit from established canon, but I have always loved the possibilities of AI in Star Wars, and it just never seems to ever be used to its utmost. I wish the Droids show had gotten off the ground, not sure if it still will, but that could explore some of these ideas.

    In Star Wars, the tech is cludgy with old toggle switches and CRT displays… the galaxy instead did their science with organic beings. Examples like the Twilek and Togruda and a dozen other species that had common genes with the humans, also cloners like the Kaminoans. It is conceivable that in such a universe, that the droid intelligence is based in an organic core with intelligence on par with obedient servants or sentient pets… you might expand your thinking.
