@@rushnerd I honestly think that one COULD have been a great movie... It's impossible to not love Raul Julia, for one thing. And the basic plot was actually quite imaginative and original... Its execution was a dumpster fire, but give it a good director, some competent writers, and a budget you didn't raise by digging through couch cushions, and I really think it could be something 🙂

This is probably the best post-shout Devo track, at least before 2010, and honestly the only one off of Total Devo that I can listen to painlessly. Smooth Noodle Maps definitely had more consistently listenable tracks but the production was even worse and Kendrick's bombastic and sloppy drumming was pushed further into the foreground
You know, I wasn't quite ready to put any of the blame for DEVO's post-Warner slump on Kendrick...but you're absolutely right: Alan Myers (R.I.P.) was nicknamed "The Human Metronome", and that's exactly in line with DEVO's style. Kendrick is good--but he's a standard rock drummer...the combination was discordant 😕 I didn't dislike Total DEVO, but it's their weakest album by far...with the exception of this song--which I adore☺️ And okay: I have a soft spot for Baby Doll...mostly because I first heard it in the movie Tape Heads--a woefully underappreciated John Cusack/Tim Robbins comedy from the late 80s😊
A lot of them were hit and miss, but Mark's use of the the CMI Fairlight for sampling in some of these just gives me chills it's so well done. I guess you don't need a CMI Fairlight these days to make samples with, but anyone who did it right back then has a sound you cannot get anymore.

I would pay to see another version of this using scenes from Watchmen (the HBO series, though the film would work too). It's almost eerie how well it would fit, and there's already a DEVO connection in both the series and the graphic novel.
