Learning to be less self-critical and limiting in my journals-making them less about “art” and more about “soul”-more about “doing it” and less about “over thinking” about it! You are a jewel of life and joy! Thank you!

I went to the thrift store, honestly, I think the hardback books on the table were sited for the landfill, they were priced 10¢ ea. So, I said for that price no guilt. I found an very outdated college engineering math text, some such thing. Cut out some pages, painted some just whatever.
      Learning my way through.
All that being said, I encourage you go for it. Find a book thrifting or yardsale such thing even if its markers, coloured pencils, the comic strip from the news paper. Just give yourself permission to play.

As a Miami girl, I love limes! The taste, the color, the squeeze. I'm in New England (lived here now for many years) anxiously awaiting the spring! Cleaning, straightening, freshening everything in the house. Tomorrow a friend and I are going out to clean my art studio to get it ready for the next few seasons ( I close it and turn off the heat in late fall and winter). Like you, looking forward to the unfolding of everything, the studio, the green grass, the open windows, eating outside! Thank you for telling your van life story and sharing your process and life, Wendy. Best to you and James.

All I could think at the time was you saying to write "I don't know what to write." That is actually how I found you, I asked TH-cam how to write in a journal and you came up, about 2 years ago. Sigh....I don't know what to write. Thank you for listening.

Thanks so much Wendy- in fact can’t find adequate words to thank you! A ‘stalled’ artist, that’s me, and been depressed, but bingeing on your art journal stuff the last week or so. I have all my ‘best’ paintings from my early teens still. Was a difficult time. Inspired by you this last weekend to get them out, find a way of binding them together (with some blank leaves as well) and start an art journal that’s a conversation between my 65-yr-old self (yes - it matters even more now!) and that really lonely teenager. Enough pages that I can be doing this for a few months - and the paintings (just teenage art) are not sitting in a dusty folder now. I needed to have this conversation - you opened the way! Might move on to my twenties afterwards!

Beautiful idea to utilize copies of photographs for your journal. Love the creativity Wendy and that you share with your followers.
I made a promise to myself that I would do my best without judgement to have a daily gratitude journal. With no expectations other than I knew I would need assistance to help me along my journey. So for Christmas I bought myself 'Power Thought Cards - Louisa Hay' and 'The Spirit Animal Oracle - Colette Baron-Reid'.
How I fell in ♥ with theses cards the Louisa Hay are positive affirmations , colorful and whimsical drawings by 5 different female artists. I shuffled that deck once on Jan 1st (and never again), each morning I do a little writing on how I feel, some gratitude of the simplest things, sometimes things come up that needs healing; then select the top card; I'm amazed how that card of the day can resonate to my writing. I always write out the affirmation in my journal and may or may not write more. And for Colette Baron-Reid cards oh my, what a beautiful magical deck have a wonderful time using them and learning from them.
What has been great is that sometimes I do a sketching too, best of all I'm having fun, it's very therapeutic (for me) and I've kept up with it everyday. Grateful I am on this journey, enough Barbara Babble 😉 ode to the Wendy Waffle ♥have a wonderful week!

Dear Wendy, I loved the idea of the photos in my art journal, as I do find very comforting to see old photos of me and my family. I have many of them displayed in my house and I love to look at them, remember my family members who are not with me here anymore and remember how much my childhood was happy. And many times that is very helpful when I am feeling down or sad or depressed. So why not use them in my art journal? I don’t struggle with what to write, because I always have many things to say 😊, both to me and to others😊. But an art journal is more than words and that’s why I loved your idea. I struggle more with images, what to draw or paint or collage, than with words, as you may have already noticed😊. I love your gratitude post on instagram. I never had that habit and I find it very healthy to my mind, very freeing and very rewarding. It seems like I forget the bad things and retain only the good ones, when commenting in your gratitude post. So thank for that. Also thank you for keeping me company. Although we never met, I consider you now my virtual friend that visits me once a week and sometimes on instagram, and that, although struggling with the bad days, always has a motivation word for me. Your videos are a nice and friendly visit. See you soon.💙💜🧡♥️💚💛❤️

Oh how I can relate to enjoying ‘The Holiday’ movie. I usually watch it at Christmas but didn’t have a chance to revisit until a few weeks ago. Prompted by the relationship between Iris and Jasper, it actually resulted in a long overdue realisation and helped me with making a ‘necessary for my health and well being’ work/teaching related change this year. Such a sudden light bulb moment even though I’ve seen the movie many times before. Thankyou for the inspiration to use more real life photos as journal prompts. I have so many photos and so many letters and diaries yet don’t nearly often enough combine them :)

I love your podcasts but I must say, this one was one of my favorites! I could feel myself relax throughout the video just watching you journal and explain everything you were doing and why you were doing it. I am a true believer in being grateful, and I try to journal at least 5 things each day that I am grateful for . I have never used pictures like you have here, but i definitely will after watching. Thank you for being so open and vulnerable in your videos! It truly helps when you share your feelings, it helps to see that we are not alone in our feelings post lockdown,. Watching your podcasts and learning your great journaling tips, is one thing I am grateful for today!! Thank you Wendy!!

This was so lovely and therapeutic to watch, and you've given me an idea of how I can grasp how these two years have impacted me as well. I've been feeling all discombobulated for a while now, anxious about things going back to "normal", whatever that is! Now you've shown me a way to get a look at my situation, give it a real ponder, and maybe accept where we've all been, and where we find ourselves now! Thank you, Wendy!💛

I love the idea of personal photos in a journal; especially when you copy them so you can write on them, adorn them, or shape them any way you want. I also love the way you painted two of your journal pages. I would love to know the type of paint you used. I have tried this numerous times in the past, but the pages always seem to warp a bit!

Living alone with no photographic record of my journey will make this idea impossible ☹ I will visit one of my (close to home) favorite trees💚🌳 tonight and ponder with the huge grand dame and see what other ideas may percolate into possibilities for an art journal.🤔 Thank you for shining your bright light with me today!💫🌞💖🙋‍♀️ Sending much Aloha across the miles to you dear heart!💫💖🌺💫

I love this idea about using photos in journaling! This gets me going and now I will sift thru my photos online. I can think of so many ways to use them like telling a story, seeing my hairdo changes over a long time (and there were so many, Wendy--haha. Some were absolutely atrocious, and others were a little cute.) My whole life I have wanted looong hair, but have always gone and done it, THAT,--the haircut. Sure I've had it long-er, but never looong, really long. And for me, that's what I am doing. I've got more to go to get to the place I'd like to be, but it's just about past the longest I've ever had it.
Not really sure why I have sabotaged my efforts so many times (well, a couple of cuts were due to a bad perm), but somehow I got past the hard parts this time--that not so great in between length and such--maybe it took making a pact with my husband's cousin to let our hair grow, no ifs ands or buts! Both of us have been growing hair for 4 yrs now. I LOVE your hair, Wendy. So long and beautiful (as you are). Don't believe I've met anyone on YT as open and honest and relevant as you are. Just what the doctor ordered😘. It sounds silly to me as I read over what I've written, yet I believe there is some thread there that has been leading me to cut my hair numerous times when I had wanted to grow it longer. I'm going to think on it and try to get to the bottom of it. You've sorted through your last two years or more and it's helped you quite a lot. I will try to do a similar thing using pictures and other memorabilia I tend to save all of my ephemera from events or trips, and so I have items to trigger those memories. Now I'm excited to discover feelings, memories, and people from my pics. Thank you so much for unlocking yet another whole, meaningful way of self discovery and growth. You're positively Lovely my friend. XOXOJANE

If you can't write then don't worry - I have found that sometimes adding a coloured border or a "feeling" word nicely decorated to start me off - really works well as then there is no blank paper which can freeze alot of people. I have also used newspaper, magazine pages etc to just start me off or not journal that day just decorate the page and explain you couldn't write today (now you're writing lol)
