  • This week we are on a mission to make the campervan lighter! She is 90kg over her payload so is currently illegal! We have to rip out a lot of our hard work and start again! It is soul destroying so please give the video a like to keep our spirits up 😊

    Hi. Has anyone suggested up plating the van?? It will give you extra payload and you won’t have to take so much out. Such a shame. ☹️

    Its a shame that you've got to re-model to bring the weight down but i did think you'd be close with the bulkhead it must weigh a fair bit. Here's hoping you make to 3.5T or under and a happy easter.

  • @NomaddUK

    I still can't believe it is over weight. I am screwed then as I have more stuff in mine than you have.

      Bonkers isn't it! We're definitely going to weigh it again just to check. The uprating of the payload doesn't seem too much hassle though. Better to be safe and legal though.

    Not sure how far you’ve got on this but one thing I noticed.. do you have the click lock LVT/wood flooring?
    I remember looking at flooring for our build and I originally wanted that but after picking up a pack no chance!!
    They must be 15-20kg each easy.. add in to that the 12 or 18mm ply flooring underneath not sure what you used?
    I rekon if you remove the “full walkway area” and replace with some Lino I bet you’d save a good 30kg min👍🏼
    If you’ve got a multitool wouldn’t be that hard I think
    Please take no offence from this, making your rear door ply a bit thinner won’t do anything, you only need to do a good shop and you’ll bring in more than that saves!ha
    If it’s drastic.
    I’d look at water , waste and battery size. Can you get away with a 230Ah?
    Your further along than my build but it’s really making me think and honestly slightly concerned 🙁 I might need to visit a weighbridge to keep an eye on it.
    Keep chugging along!lol 👍🏼👍🏼

    • @pitched_up_wanderers

      We've already got the lino in. We did think about the click flooring but felt how heavy it was. We know the ply on the doors doesn't make much difference but we hated it anyway 🤣🤣 it gave us the kick up the bum to change it to carpet and we think it looks much better. We were shocked by how much we'd added as we thought we'd been quite careful.
      Yes the batteries are heavy but we're hoping for really long periods off grid and full time plans for the future.

    Your ceiling / roof wood will weigh quite a bit. Could probably get some easy gains there if you are going to stick with keeping it under 3.5.

    Sorry, a bit confused...is fully laden kerb weight limit 3500kg? If so, you need to get well below that to allow for everything you need when living in your campervan, yourselfes included!!

    • @pitched_up_wanderers
      @pitched_up_wanderers  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, so the fully laden weight allowed in our van is 3500kg. That includes everything, fuel, water, us, clothes, etcetera. We were slightly over that by 90kgs and have to either lose weight or 'upplate' the van. Hope that helps.

    Hi, such a shame that you have to rip out things, not sure why you ripped out the vapour barrier if you thought you needed it originally? Just hope that doesn't come back to haunt you down the line, loving the build though.

  • @philkfoto
    @philkfoto 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Your van before you started the build weighs 3500kgs. So I am really wondering why you are trying to reduce the weight. Any weight over this requires a C licence, do you have this Steve? If so you can add weight without any problems. Basically the max weight you can drive on a car licence is 3500kgs which is your base van weight.

    • @pitched_up_wanderers
      @pitched_up_wanderers  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello. The van weighed 2500 kgs at the start of the build. Once completed and with us, a full tank of fuel, water and all our stuff, we are 3590kgs, which is 90kgs overweight. We are trying to loose that 90kgs and are also in the process of 'upplating' to 3900kgs. Steve has C1 and HGV licence, so it's not an issue for us. Hope that helps to clarify! 👍

    • @philkfoto
      @philkfoto 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      According to DVLA your van at the start weighed 3500kgs, this is why I mentioned this. But as Steve has a C1 licence, you do not need to remove anything because he can drive any vehicle from 3500kg to 7500kg. So I do understand why you are doing this.

    • @philkfoto
      @philkfoto 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So as you think your van weighed at start 2500kgs and at weighbridge weighed 3590kgs, you have added 1090kgs or more than a ton which is impossible. Specs for your van are kerb weight 3500kgs as also registered on DVLA website for your vehicle registration number. Max payload is 1053kgs. So you can have a maximum weight of 4553kgs. So as Steve has a C1 licence what is the problem with reducing the vans weight, makes zero sense.

    • @pitched_up_wanderers
      @pitched_up_wanderers  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Steve can drive up to 7500kg on his C1 but only if the vehicle can legally be that weight. Our gross maximum vehicle weight must remain under 3500kg to be legal. That includes everything including us and fuel/water/equipment.

    • @philkfoto

      My sincere apologies Cheryl as what I read on a website and believed, as I too want to convert a van was totally inaccurate. Yes you are totally correct in what you are doing as I discovered on another reliable website. Your help with this has been invaluable to me to establish exactly what I can and cannot do adding equipment, so many thanks. Why does a website mislead, I think it is because they do not know what they are talking about. In my case I only have a car licence and now being 75, I need to be very careful how I proceed. Thank you so much now for your assistance, and your very quick replies.❤
