The video is now monetised! TH-cam checked it and gave it the green light. I also just want to say a huge apologies for using a picture of Muhammad in this video too. That was a sheer dumb mistake on my behalf and wasn’t done with any bad intention to upset anyone.
Also I just want to say a huge thank you to all the Muslim people who have left comments saying how much they enjoyed this video. It really means the world to me.
    Much love,
    Patrick

@Name Explain hey there, just small note
The Sunni x Shia did not start right after Muhammad died. Couldve been better if u add
      1. Muslims elected leaders (Caliphs) to serve for their lifetime
      2. The 1st was Abu Bakr (the father in law), the 4th was Ali (the son in law)
      3. Ali was killed, a civil war broke out. Ali's sons were betrayed and also killed by the rival (Muawiyah)
      4. Those who supported Ali believed the successors should still be from Muhammad's family/bloodline, not popular election. Thus the "Sha'a" word, to follow the will of the family.
      5. Ironically, Muawiyah installed his own family as dynasty, abandoning the election system.
Now thats some interesting story innit! Couldve done that in under 30 seconds;)

@bread vick46 "nah, aisha was 17 or 18 when she married muhammad. And it was her own choice to married muhammad."
      And Sahih al-Bukhari Vol. 5, Book 58, Hadith 234 to 236 Says
      Narrated Aisha:
The Prophet engaged me when I was a girl of six (years). We went to Medina and stayed at the home of Bani-al-Harith bin Khazraj. Then I got ill and my hair fell down. Later on my hair grew (again) and my mother, Um Ruman, came to me while I was playing in a swing with some of my girl friends. She called me, and I went to her, not knowing what she wanted to do to me. She caught me by the hand and made me stand at the door of the house. I was breathless then, and when my breathing became Allright, she took some water and rubbed my face and head with it. Then she took me into the house. There in the house I saw some Ansari women who said, "Best wishes and Allah's Blessing and a good luck." Then she entrusted me to them and they prepared me (for the marriage). Unexpectedly Allah's Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age.
      Narrated 'Aisha:
That the Prophet said to her, "You have been shown to me twice in my dream. I saw you pictured on a piece of silk and some-one said (to me). 'This is your wife.' When I uncovered the picture, I saw that it was yours. I said, 'If this is from Allah, it will be done."
      Narrated Hisham's father:
Khadija died three years before the Prophet departed to Medina. He stayed there for two years or so and then he married 'Aisha when she was a girl of six years of age, and he consumed that marriage when she was nine years old.

I used to play with the dolls in the presence of the Prophet, and my girl friends also used to play with me. When Allah's Apostle used to enter (my dwelling place) they used to hide themselves, but the Prophet would call them to join and play with me. (The playing with the dolls and similar images is forbidden, but it was allowed for 'Aisha at that time, as she was a little girl, not yet reached the age of puberty.) Arabic language has different rules from English. The way you construct a word in Arabic might confuse non-speaker.
So, most Arabic words have their root from 3 letters (there are some words that have more/less, but usually, it's 3). So, there's no root words, but rather, root letters.
For example: The word "Islam" has its root from 3 letters, S-L-M (In Arabic, of course. This is just an oversimplification). These 3 letters can be changed, depends on what suffix you use. In this case, we use prefix mu- meaning "the doer of" (or something close to that).
For the pronunciation, there's some rules that you have to learn, because it's hard. The reason is, the letters in Arabic languages don't have an exact sound for itself. Letter M can sound like "Ma" "Mi" or "Mu", or even just "M" without vowel sound. Then how can we determine their sounds? By context.

"muislam" is completely wrong and never was a thing in Arabic it has always been Muslim and the reason is Arabic doesn't work in suffixes prefixes pattern but reforming the entire word with keeping the root.

At 3:08 you say that, over time, MuIslam transformed intro Muslim. I’m not sure if you’re talking about the English pronunciation, which might be true, but just in case you’re talking about Arabic, I’d like to correct that.
The base of the word here is SLM, or S-L-M (سلم), these 3 letters are put into different templates to mean different things. As you can see, this consists of three letters, as the majority of these bases are. For the sake of clarity, I’m gonna label the letter 1,2, and 3 respectively, so S-L-M becomes 1-2-3.
One template used to turn a base into a noun is I-1-2-A-3. Replace the letters, and you get Islam.
Another template which converts a base into a noun (more like a partaker, or as you explained, an “er”) is MU-1-2-4. Put in the letters, and it becomes Muslim. The reason we don’t have a dash between MU and there is an added “I” is because of something called harakat, which are basically short vowels. So “Mu” and “Li”. Really, the only mistake you made was think that SLAM was the base of the word.

I am a Muslim and an Arab, I approve this, except how Islam became into Muslim, there is a way more explaining other than the adding Mu. But in general the resone you said and the meaning is the right one
A root word of Islame, is Slm to make it a known we add (I,1,2a,3,e)to be Islame, if we want to make it into the one who do Islam. We go back to the root, Slm, then we add (Mu,,1,2 i,3) to be Muslim. So we do not move the (I) but we add other one in a different location.

  • @SamAronow

Judaism is kind of a weird one because the ethnic demonym "Jew" ("Yehudi") is older than the Judaism as a distinct religion, which gradually evolved out of Canaanite paganism. "Yahadut" literally means "the religion of Judah," thus "Juda-ism."
Other fun fact: the m- prefix also exists in Hebrew, usually in relation to transitive verbs. But it can mean a present-tense action, a device for performing that action, or the person who does the action. You'll come across this root form business in every Afroasiatic language.

3:06 just a note actually "muislam" had never been a word in arabic the word muslim didnt change with time it is always muslim because we dont use prefixes and suffuxes in arabic but we use something called "awzan" which means litteraly sounds but to sipmlify it is more like a formula ..i mean every word in arabic has an origin of a verb from 3 letters that's the base and we ad letters to form other "awzan" and change the meaning but stay in the same topic for example : khaataba (which means to talk to spmone) mukhatibon (which means the one who does the talking) and mukhatabon (which means the one who is being talked to or the one who is listening) so what i mean the word muslim is the only correct word in arabic it had never changed. plus in the holly Quraan it is written muslimin mot muislam ... muslimin is the plural for muslim btw.

As a native Arab, the words have an obvious relation that makes the video sound weird but I guess for English speakers, the difference is huge and I guess the video made a good job at explaining it. I have a comment about it, though. The word wasn't Muislam that changed gradually to Muslim like you said. Arabic grammar just works that way. Origin of the word is سلم (salama) then you do all kinds of wonders with prefixes, suffixes and changing of vowels. To put it short, Muslim is right and was never Muislam.

    • @worfoz
      @worfoz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

that they go against the religion or Islam meaning they don't believe or..?
everyone who follows the man made book of muhammed is a terrorist
Now the Qur’an tells us: “not to make friendship with Jews and Christians” (5:51), “kill the disbelievers wherever we find them” (2:191), “murder them and treat them harshly” (9:123), “fight and slay the Pagans, seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem”
      (9:5).
The Qur’an demands that we fight the unbelievers, and promises “If there are twenty amongst you, you will vanquish two hundred: if a hundred, you will vanquish a thousand of them” (8:65).
Allah and his messenger want us to fight the Christians and the Jews “until they pay the Jizya [a penalty tax for the non-Muslims living under Islamic rules] with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued” (9:29).
Allah and his messenger announce that it is acceptable to go back on our promises (treaties) and obligations with Pagans and make war on them whenever we find ourselves strong enough to do so (9:3). Our God tells us to “fight the unbelievers” and “He will punish them by our hands, cover them with shame and help us (to victory) over them” (9:14).
The Qur’an takes away the freedom of belief from all humanity and relegates those who disbelieve in Islam to hell (5:10), calls them najis (filthy, untouchable, impure) (9:28), and orders its followers to fight the unbelievers until no other religion except Islam is left (2:193).
It says that the “non-believers will go to hell and will drink boiling water” (14:17). It asks the Muslims to “slay or crucify or cut the hands and feet of the unbelievers, that they be expelled from the land with disgrace and that they shall have a great punishment in world hereafter” (5:34).
And tells us that “for them (the unbelievers) garments of fire shall be cut and there shall be poured over their heads boiling water whereby whatever is in their bowels and skin shall be dissolved and they will be punished with hooked iron rods” (22:19-22) and that they not only will have “disgrace in this life, but on the Day of Judgment He shall make them taste the Penalty of burning (Fire)” (22:9).
The Qur’an says that “those who invoke a god other than Allah not only should meet punishment in this world but the Penalty on the Day of Judgment will be doubled to them, and they will dwell therein in ignominy” (25:68).
For those who “believe not in Allah and His Messenger, He has prepared, for those who reject Allah, a Blazing Fire!” (48:13). Although we are asked to be compassionate amongst each other, we have to be “harsh with unbelievers”, our Christian, Jewish and Atheist neighbours and colleagues (48:29). As for him who does not believe in Islam, the Prophet announces with a “stern command”: “Seize ye him, and bind ye him, And burn ye him in the Blazing Fire. Further, make him march in a chain, whereof the length is seventy cubits! This was he that would not believe in Allah Most High. And would not encourage the feeding of the indigent! So no friend hath he here this Day. Nor hath he any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds, Which none do eat but those in sin.” (69:30-37)
The Qur’an prohibits a Muslim from befriending a non-believer even if that non-believer is the father or the brother of that Muslim (9:23), (3:28). Our holy book asks us to be disobedient towards the disbelievers and their governments and strive against the unbelievers with great endeavour” (25:52) and be stern with them because they belong to Hell (66:9).
The holy Prophet prescribes fighting for us and tells us that “it is good for us even if we dislike it” (2:216). Then he advises us to “strike off the heads of the disbelievers”; and after making a “wide slaughter among them, carefully tie up the remaining captives” (47:4). Our God has promised to “instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers” and has ordered us to “smite above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them” (8:12).
He also assures us that when we kill in his name “it is not us who slay them but Allah, in order that He might test the Believers by a gracious trial from Himself” (8:17). He orders us “to strike terror into the hearts of the enemies” (8:60). He has made the Jihad mandatory and warns us that “Unless we go forth, (for Jihad) He will punish us with a grievous penalty, and put others in our place” (9:39). Allah speaks to our Holy Prophet and says “O Prophet! strive hard against the unbelievers and the hypocrites, and be stern against them. Their abode is Hell - an evil refuge indeed” (9:73).
He promises us that in the fight for His cause whether we slay or are slain we return to the garden of Paradise (9:111). In Paradise he will “wed us with Houris (celestial virgins) pure beautiful ones” (56:54), and unite us with large-eyed beautiful ones while we recline on our thrones set in lines (56:20).
There we are promised to eat and drink pleasantly for what we did (56:19). He also promises “boys like hidden pearls” (56:24) and “youth never altering in age like scattered pearls” (for those who have paedophiliac inclinations) (76:19). As you see, Allah has promised all sorts or rewards, gluttony and unlimited sex to Muslim men who kill unbelievers in his name. We will be admitted to Paradise where we shall find “goodly things, beautiful ones, pure ones confined to the pavilions that man has not touched them before nor jinni” (56:67-71).
In the West we enjoy freedom of belief but we are not supposed to give such freedom to anyone else because it is written “If anyone desires a religion other than Islam (submission to Allah), never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter He will be in the ranks of those who have lost (All spiritual good) (3:85). And He orders us to fight them on until there is no more tumult and faith in Allah is practiced everywhere (8:39).
As for women, the book of Allah says that they are inferior to men and their husbands have the right to scourge them if they are found disobedient (4:34). It advises to “take a green branch and beat your wife”, because a green branch is more flexible and hurts more. (38:44). It teaches that women will go to hell if they are disobedient to their husbands (66:10). It maintains that men have an advantage over the women (2:228).
It not only denies the women’s equal right to their inheritance (4:11-12), it also regards them as imbeciles and decrees that their witness is not admissible in the courts of law (2:282). This means that a woman who is raped cannot accuse her rapist unless she can produce a male witness.
Our Holy Prophet allows us to marry up to four wives and he licensed us to sleep with our slave maids and as many ‘captive’ women as we may have (4:3) even if those women are already married. He himself did just that. This is why anytime a Muslim army subdues another nation, they call them kafir and allow themselves to rape their women. Pakistani soldiers allegedly raped up to 250,000 Bengali women in 1971 after they massacred 3,000,000 unarmed civilians when their religious leader decreed that Bangladeshis are un-Islamic. This is why the prison guards in Islamic regime of Iran rape the women that in their opinion are apostates prior to killing them, as they believe a virgin will not go to Hell.

I bet you wouldn't know, but such images can make non-believers make statues of the prophet, and worship them, which is considered disbelief. 2:57 no not really. Arabic doesn't just add prefixes to the word to create a new one. It has a system of roots and patterns.
    Okay so a brief explanation:
The pattern meaning 'one who does the verb' is مُفْعِلْ where the letters ف ع and ل are just placeholders. When you insert the root letters of Muslim which are س ل م (s l m) in place of the placeholder letters you get مسلم Muslim.
There was never a word called Muislam that gradually became Muslim. Both words are from the root letters s l m but Muslim's pattern is mu12i3 (insert root letters in place of 123) while Islam's pattern is i12a3 (again insert root letters in place of 123).
    Otherwise good video.

Thank you so much for this video! I'm not Muslim, but I have studied Arabic in uni for the past three years and this video is pretty accurate. Muslim does come from the same root as Islam. However, to be a little more accurate the word Islam comes from the three letter root "S-L-M". For example, another word from this same root "salaam" means peace. Every word in Arabic has a three or four letter root. Those letters are then plugged into verb patterns to convey a certain meaning. "Aslama" literally means "to make peaceful" or in a more abstract firm "to submit". "Islam" is the English-equivalent of the gerund form for "aslama". Without getting too far into Arabic grammar (which is soooo hard ), the "mu" in Muslim is like the "er" suffix in English like you said. This specific form is called the "ism al-fa3el" or the "do-er noun" if we wanted to translate into English. Again, another pattern in Arabic that you plug the root into to make a word. The general pattern is "mufa3el" so when you plug the "S-L-M" root into this pattern you get "muslem", which of course as you mentioned means "one who submits to God". This is probably confusing and gets into the nitty-gritty of Arabic, but I really appreciated the video.

      @AndrewVasirov 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Heathenism?
Now that's a dumb name for a religion.
Hellenism, from the Greek name of... Greek. Like Ελληνική Δημοκρατία (Helliniki Dimokratia = Hellenic Republic). Ελλάδα (Ellada) or Ελλάς (Ellas) mean Greece. Before "Greece" was an actual country, it was the name of the region the "Greeks" lived in during the ancient times. Back then, Greek languages weren't as mutually intelligible as you might think. Make an analogy with Italy from Italia, Italic Peninsula.
Roman paganism was basically Greek paganism with other names; They had a lot of imagination. They loved to borrow stuff from other civilizations except when they destroyed them.
I think Kemetism is similar to Hellenism. I think "KMT" was the name of Egypt in ancient times. So basically the religion/ideology of (Ancient) Egypt.
      Gypsy comes from Egyptian.

      @wes6363 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Norse religion is often called in relation to the West Norse Word for "Truth" whereas Heathanism was mostly by the Christians to describe them.
Also: The other Germanic practices would also fall under this category, as opposed to Wicca, which mostly stems from Celtic practices, seeing how the Gaulic, English, and continental German religions all stem from a protogermanic mythology. The names change slightly but its pretty much how latins, Spaniards and Americans all pronounce "Jesus" differently

They do indeed come from the same root. Arabic grammar is based on roots of three consonants. The root S-L-M has to do with peace, as well as submission (think about the link between those two and it will make sense - when people submit to a common authority, peace is one of the results). Derivations of roots in Arabic are done by adding in certain vowels and prefixes, so that's how we get the words Islam, Muslim, Aslama, and Salaam - same consonants in each, just different vowels and prefixes.

I think that in Arabic they also mean it in a more positive way then surrender (Lehikanaa in Hebrew) which comes from a totally different root (כ.נ.ע which is pronounced k.n.ʕ), and I guess that in Arabic it's a similar root.
