Glorious performance's by all, enjoyed every moment, I was brought up listening to all the legendary operatic stars Caruso Callas Caballe Fleta Bjorling de los Angeles , please thank these great artists for carrying on with this tradition of lifting humanity above all the worries of this world. They put their hearts and souls into their work I include all the orchestra ,stage crew everyone connected with this production (cleaners, ticket sellers, ushers, Bar staff, the cat and all those I do not know about) BRAVO
Apart from the magnificent voice of Matti Salminen I also love the fact that his Commendatore makes a formidable opponent, strong and desperate enough not to be underestimated, so that Don Giovanni has to recur to some dirty trick to bring him down, in spite of his initial bragging.
Unvergessen bleibt die Premiere, Cecilia Bartoli hatte sich im winterlichen Zürich den Fuss gebrochen und trat mit Gipsfuss und Krücken auf, was ihre Darstellung als Donna Elvira unglaublich intensivierte. Ich sagte damals zu einem Freund, eigentlich müsste man die Oper "Donna Cecilia" nennen. 😀 The premiere will not be forgotten, Cecilia Bartoli broke her foot in wintry Zurich and appeared with a bandaged foot and crutches, which intensified her portrayal as Donna Elvira incredibly. Rodney Gilfry rocked as Count Don Giovanni in this opera. Do you think that he was nervous? I mean it's natural for famous yet professional opera singers to develop a case of stage fright. Wouldn't you agree? My grandmother likes this art of singing onstage. Thank you for thinking of her.
