    Can I ask you guys to share the recipes using the metric system, too? I'm sure that non-Americans like me would appreciate that a lot. :)

    • @bhagad
      @bhagad 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rafaela Carvalho Wait... I know mass is different (lb/kilo oz/g), but isn't volume kinda the same? Do you use something other than cups/tbsp/tsp? Honestly really curious because I can't imagine a recipe that uses something else for volume.

    • @2201rafaela
      @2201rafaela 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The tsp/tbsp/cups measurement is fine! :) But I have no idea how much is an ounce and I can only sort of guess that one pound is around half a kilo. But that's pretty much it, hahaha!

    • @TheQuetzalcoatl
      @TheQuetzalcoatl 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      yeah we don't use cups or spoons, we use very precise measurements in grams and milliliters and such. Recipes have to be "translated", too.

    • @2201rafaela
      @2201rafaela 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheQuetzalcoatl You don't use those either? Wow, that's interesting! I use cups and spoons, but not ounces and pounds - only grams and mililiters. :)

    • @TheQuetzalcoatl
      @TheQuetzalcoatl 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hehe, no, i have no concept of how much a cup would be, which kind of cup anyway, tea? Coffee? Cappuccino? I'm perpetually confused by receipts with cups! ☺

    I'm going to do my best to follow along. I gave up smoking 7 weeks ago (it's my New Years resolution, I did it early because I was scared if I waited to 2017 I would decide it wasn't worth it!).

    Meditation seems like it'd be really easy, but I find it so ridiculously difficult. Like damn. Brain. Chill.

    • @mykadassano438
      @mykadassano438 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I hate it. I'm either angry because it isn't working or SOFA KING bored. I am the "do 19 things at once" type so meditation is just... gah...
      I used to do what I referred to as "reverse meditation" - where instead of trying to clear my mind I would try to see how many distinctly different thoughts I could have at the same time. So I would think of song lyrics, while counting by three, while alphabetically listing animals, while thinking about a baking recipe, etc.
      Then I would just keep adding a new thought trail. Eventually my brain would "overload" and go blank, and that would be meditative for me.

      I am trained in teaching meditation techniques and mindfulness - and I struggle do it myself. You have to find what technique works for you. It could be peeling potatoes or something. I find breathing excercises work best for me - circular breathing, conciously switching between chest and stomach breathing and contract/relax muscle exercises, or reciting a poem. There are so many to try though. It is about being in concious control of your thoughts and being in your body.

    • @puddyt
      @puddyt 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Myka Dassano that is your meditation - you tell your thoughts where to go

    • @igobykatherine8952
      @igobykatherine8952 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to be the same way. Still happens a lot but moslty because I've stopped meditating regularily.
      here's what I suggest if your brain is doing the lack-of-chill routine. Let it for a short bit. Then start focussing on one thought at a time from all those thoughts. When other thoughts try to interrupt that thought let them but as soon as you can remember to go back and focus on your original thought putting the interrupting one into a box or jar or container to go back to once your done with your original thought.
      It took a lot of time and practice and I never got my brain to stop doing it's super crazy never slow down and stop routine but what I did discover was that I got better and better about moving the interrupting thoughts to the side which meant I had longer periods of time to focus on the original thought.
      This was great practice as it turns out for the next stage of meditation which is learning to think of absolutely nothing. A seemingly easy task but one that is still the hardest thing I ever had to do. However; since I already had a method for keeping what I didn't want to focus on at bay l was able to start doing so fairly quickly.

      Nicholas Pattie everything in moderation man! No diet should completely exclude anything, but instead of the normal 20 oz bottle or even the normal cans try to find the little 6 oz sodas and limit yourself to no more than 1 a day.

    • @mykadassano438
      @mykadassano438 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is no health professional that would condone artificial sweeteners. They might allow it like "on a cheat day" or whatever. Fake sweeteners have been proven to decrease your metabolism and increase your "sweet tooth." MULTIPLE STUDIES have shown that people who drink artificial sweeteners actually lost LESS weight than people who just gave in and had a real soda. They tell your body that you are getting sugar, and you make insulin for it and then don't have any sugar for the insulin to handle. Which slows your metabolism and makes you CRAVE sugar more because your body is prepared for it and didn't actually receive any. Artificial sweeteners should ONLY ONLY ONLY be used by diabetics who cannot have sugar. There is NO other time when they are any good. That being said... alcohol, red meat, cheese, etc are all ALSO "bad" for you... so everything in moderation.

    I do WeightWatchers because I can eat basically unlimited fruits and veggies, which really works for me since I am vegetarian.
    Good luck, guys! You got this!

    Will you be posting videos daily or weekly? And will they be a more follow along for the viewer type of style or educational? I have a few questions like these because I want to do my best to follow along. Good luck to all the nerdfighters who are doing the same!!

    can I drink Dr pepper?😂

      But what was the answer?

    • @MichaelThompson1g
      @MichaelThompson1g 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lyssandra Norton It should have been 'No' as even Dr. Pepper (or anything really) sweetened with artificial sweeteners is not shown to help reduce weight. The reason for that is uncertain, but it could be that the sweeteners trick your brain into thinking that sugar is coming but, of course, you consume no actual sugar. This may lead to craving even more sugar which you consume plus the artificial sugar you had earlier. That's just a theory, but the case still remains that 'Diet' anything is no better for you.

    I have been thinking of finding a doctor the specializes in sports medicine for a while, as most of my issues stem from past and present sports related injuries. It was interesting to see the exam process.

    I can't believe that dietician, Kim Bradley, recommended a daily intake of 2 cups of dairy. That's about 488g and should give about 250 or 350 calories, 6 or 13 g of saturated fat, 0.4 or 0.6 g of trans fats, and 40 or 50 mg cholesterol. Keep in mind that the recommended upper limit for cholesterol is 300 mg, for saturated fat is 20 g, and for trans fats it's 0 g. That's not a typo, the only safe dosage of trans fats is 0 g per day so how could she recommend dairy? There are many healthy sources of Calcium such as nuts, seeds, legumes, and vegetables. Even the doctor recommended Chris to limit his cheeses but Kim Bradley described dairy as a health food?
    Kim Bradley also recommended 6 teaspoons of oils. Assuming that's 24 g of olive oil then that's 240 calories, 3.7 g of saturated fat, and 0.04 g of trans fats. And assuming that's 24 g of canola oil then that's 200 calories, 1.7 g of saturated fat, and 0.09 g of trans fats. This isn't as bad as dairy but still, why 6 teaspoons of this junk? You can get all of your healthy fats from nuts, seeds, or avocados.
    And, of course, no mention of a whole food, plant based, which is the only diet in the world which has ever been proved to reverse health disease and have a wide variety of other benefits. And let's say that John or Chris said, outright, that they can't go vegan. OK, then let them eat whatever they want but, if we're going to talk about healthy foods, we have to start with the facts first and then we can negotiate what's realistic and what's not.
    So disappointing. I guess the world still isn't ready to have a real conversation about food.

    I'd like to hear the answers to some of those nutrition questions, both to understand nutrition better and (mostly) to understand the focus of your particular plan (for example: beer, wine, and liquor servings are the same in alcohol content/liver impact, but not in calories or in other health pros/cons. I'd like to know which parts your nutritionist wants you to care about).

    I have minor concerns about the trainer, basic strength training is a must for longer and better quality living. More muscle (not body building) helps with metabolic disorders, weightloss and brain health and proper resistance training helps with osteoporosis prevention and regression. While you will lose some weight, you will run into a plateau much sooner.

    John, you are wearing a quidditch headband. This means you must try quidditch. You must! (Seriously, it's like the most fun way to exercise apart from ice-skating and cycling, although, being dutch, I might be a bit biased there.)
