    I don't think fly lining with a Tranx would be the ideal setup, but you made it work. Nice video.

      At the time, this was one of my heavier setups, i have other gear now that i use for flylining.

    How much does the trip cost and how many can you keep?

      Depending on the boat a 1.5 day trip like this one is around $400 you are allowed to keep 2 bluefin tuna, i think yellowfin limit is 5, yellowtail 5, dorado 2...

      @@JohnAvantiBK your fish go in a designated tank below deck called an RSW where the fish are kept fresh using refrigerated sea water and at the end of the trip they remove the fish and filet them or leave whole depending on what you choose, they do charge for filets

    This video is proof that 22lbs. Of drag is a lot of drag! And enough to catch some big fish when paired with the right rod and line.

      ​@@webmossIf you feel you need a reel with drag numbers so high that you're not strong enough to hold on to any way... I'd suggest you give your credit to and buy a Shimano Talica TAC20ii then.

      @@RH-qk5lt thought a Talica would be nice but I’m questioning the castabililty of the Talica. An Avet MC Raptor has been under my radar. I need the drag because I will tango with fish 100-200 lbs.

      @@webmossWhat are You casting to that's 100 - 200 lbs? Avet's are great reels. I've also used a Penn Fathom II 2-Speed 40NLD2 and its a fantastic reel with I believe 40lbs of drag and like, 48" or so of line retrieval that is easy to cast short distances. You're not going to be casting say a 2oz bucktail 40-50yards Comfortably all day, but it can be done.

      Mateo Pacelli don’t be afraid to pull hard on them, both mine came up to gaff in under 10 minutes, some guys were fighting theirs over an hour, one guy 2 hours

    Level winds are great for yellowtail and smaller tuna. But when the fish are in the 80lbs and above range, don't be that guy. Nothing worse than seeing the school of foaming tuna disappear into the distance Cuase the guy with the calico setup has been hooked up for the last 45min and on his 8th lap around the rail.

      How far can you fly line a sardine with that set up and are you adding a 1/4 oz egg weight with your leader line? Cool video

      Sal Garcia no weight. Idk probably toss it 10 yards. The key is to get a good bait that wants to swim away from the boat, i was belly hooking the baits, seemed to work better for me

      @@bluegas101 If you are using sardines the best bet is to not add any weight. Sometimes you need it with small anchovies. But I think bluefin prefer sardines. As far as distance goes, he's right -- it's more important for the bait to be lively. I caught a nice bluefin on a five foot cast that was terrible, but the sardine wanted to swim and went out there and got bit after a long soak, so mine was probably nose-hooked.

      Agreed...very punk rock! Went on an all day offshore grouper trip last November out of Homosassa FL with my new Tranx combo and the boat captain asked me what the hell I planned on doing with that. After the day was done and my Tranx & I bagging most of our catch, captain said he was buying one for himself!

      @@mdirtbike that's got a pretty high gear ratio doesn't it? I thought you want a lower gear ratio for tuna? something like a 2 speed reel

      Yes a two speed would be ideal, I brought a 2 speed avet on that trip, but it was set up for flat falling, they weren’t chewing on the flatfalls, and I had a couple other setups, got bit on the jig stick with live bait

    putting the reel in gear may turn your live bait so reel back with your thumb. Also to know if a fish bite, put your thumb on the line gently while the line is going out. If it is a bite, you there will be resistance for the line to stop, then set the hook or reel into the fish

      bob vangrin it’s called grip-n-hook, they have a website I believe, for clamp type reels. I like having trigger grip for casting heavy jigs

      I love these trips, but 30 lines in the water with most of the people not really knowing what they are doing can get extremely frustrating.
