Well I came across this just as I finished watching my church, the 1450 yo Canterbury Cathedral have their Chrism service, led by the Archbishop, Justin Welby. I much enjoyed hearing your Bishop speak. I see now how you have so many dead from Covid. I am shocked there was still communal wine, bare hands and no 2metre rule. Our altar had hand sanitiser on it in this pandemic.
Hello, Melanie. Hopefully we can assuage your concerns. The cathedral, along with all churches in the Diocese of Gary, has been adhering to COVID-19 safety protocols when they were established by health officials almost a year ago. At our churches, hand sanitizer is readily available, attendance is limited, individuals/households are spaced at least 6 feet apart and the worship space is sanitized, among other safety measures. There is no communal cup. Today's Chrism Mass at the cathedral was no different. The number of people allowed in the cathedral was limited, everyone was spaced at least 6 feet apart and hand sanitizer was placed throughout the church and was used (we do not place the sanitizer on the altar). There was no communal wine, only priests and only by intinction. Camera angles can be deceiving sometimes, so we want to assure you that the Diocese of Gary takes the COVID-19 pandemic seriously, and safety is a top priority for liturgical gatherings. Have a blessed Holy Week and Happy Easter!
Thank you Lord Jesus Christ by fulfilling my heart desire by having Chrism Mass online.🙏🙏🙏
