- WTF DOES “OG KPOP STAN" EVEN MEAN?!
Supposedly "original gangster”, can be seen as “old generation", personally viewed as “old-school”.🤓
I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Korean and rap music were my coping mechanisms from the bullying I experienced in middle school through high school and my love for the genre has stuck by me ever since.
Unfortunately, I took a huge break from Korean music around 2015 when I was officially diagnosed with lupus nephritis and seizures; I was receiving and battling years of chemotherapy and dialysis along with taking 32 pills a day, so I had no mental/emotional/spiritual room to keep myself updated with the genre. Luckily, I'm in remission now! Doesn't mean that lupus and seizures are gone because I am still very capable of frequent flare-ups of I don't take care of myself, but I make sure to do so enough to manage and live as "normally" as possible.
When I made this TH-cam name, I was thinking from my graphic-design-major perspective of a brand that will not only describe what my content will be about but will also align with the times, and y’all know that “Kpop stans” have been a thang for awhile now so hence the cringe-worthy title, OG KPOP STAN. (My love for Eminem is also relevant.😂) ALSO! Just to be SUPER clear- me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" does NOT mean that anyone who's listened to kpop after me is inferior or less-than. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time. Please don’t get that sh*t twisted.😛

YES FINALLY PURPLE KISS!! They're an amazingly talented group filled with lyricists, composers, producers, choreographers, and just all rounders. They're the juniors of MAMAMOO, VROMANCE, ONEWE, and ONEUS from RBW. The girls wrote and composed most of the songs in this album. This title track Ponzona (poison in Spanish) was made by Swan (maknae the one in white in the dance practice) like a year ago for their monthly evaluations as trainees together with Goeun (purple hair) and Yuki (rapper) without it meaning to be their title track. Yuki, their rapper is Japanese and has only been in Korea for about 3 years but she writes all of her verses in Korean on her own. The girls are such crackheads too, like their seniors in RBW lol. They have lots of contents in their official youtube channel like covers, mini vlogs, and variety stuff you should check out if you'd like. They also have 2 pre-debut singles out written and choreographed by them which represents their Blue (ballad, slow tempo style; Can We Talk Again) and Red (Rock/fast tempo ; My Heart Skip a Beat, choreographed by their dancers Chaein (chunky highlights), Dosie (short blonde hair), Ireh (blonde with bangs)) styles. They are a very versatile group and I am so excited to see what they have in store for the future

I wanted to spill all I knew but you did a great job summarizing it all! The only thing I can add to that as a Spanish native speaker is that the closest to the right pronunciation of Ponzoña might be like saying Ponzzonia, actually the girls do a very good job when they say it during the song.
Oh! And I might be wrong but what I get from the lyrics is that they mean this to be the start of Purple Kiss, alluding to the fans who were waiting all this time for their official debut, so this is like they give you a kiss that leaves a purple mark that then will start to spread slowly like a poison that eventually will fill the world with their purple awesomeness! I hope that made any sense! xD

My Heart Skip A Beat was choreographed by them and took into account camera movements too! You'll see that in the dance practice but they did live with 7 members in the showcase!
They're from RBW (Mamamoo, Oneus, Onewe, Vromance), so live vocals, hability to wrote the lyrics, composition and made their own choreography are the best ;)
Por example they do the full choreo of Onewe's End of Spring and performed in some live stage too! And Onewe is an Idol band and they were the first band with a relay dance too!

There's no rookie phase for RBW artist, I think....the Purple Kiss girls shine 2000% right from the start...and I guess RBW treat this MV the way they treat MAMAMOO's, ONEUS's & ONEWE's....and the concept is not just dark...but dark ala RBW....which is sophisticated & expensive...I think all RBW artists are really take pride of being 2000% at whatever they do

the main rapper is yuki. a japanese member. the fact that she raps better than most in kpop, shows her genius. she also helped write this song
Some info for you:
There are 3 other pre-debut "MVs" (and two more dance practices) from them to check out:
- "Intro: Crown" - Only 49 seconds long. billie eilish vibes. So good it should be a full length song. There is a dance practice as well
- "My Heart Skip a Beat" - Rock and hiphop. Fantastic upbeat bop. There is a dance practice as well
- "Can we talk again" - R&b style. Showing off vocals
Also, there is a debut trailer for each member (these are 1.5 ish minute MV where you can see each member perform and sing. These came out last summer/fall and were incredible. Please check them out! 7 individual videos and one group video). These are not the teasers for the comeback - these are teasers for the members when the group was announced.
Also, the album is fantastic! The girls are credited with lyrics in 6/7 of the songs and credited in composition in 4/7 songs. And that is for their debut album!! Crazy talented.
Their vocals are top quality since they are from RBW (Mamamoo’s company). They sang a live version of “dance monkey” on a radio show yesterday.
Swan’s voice is one of a kind. As a 15 year old she was the guide vocals on the demo track for Chungha’s “snapping” and Mamamoo’s “wind flower”
Ponzona was not even supposed to be a title track. Swan (the maknae. She is the one who whispers “purple kiss” at the start) wrote it as a training evaluation song. Later Goeun (purple hair) and Yuki (rapper) worked on it as well. But the producer liked it so much that he made it the title track
They have a lot of pre debut content that I would love to see you react to. Personally I really like their dance cover of BTS - “Danger”
everyone is credited on their album, they all participated in making "Period". 7/7 credited with lyrics and 7/7 credited in composition
@@rinablues8345 They are all credited, but I was talking about the number of songs, not number of girls. The girls are credited with lyrics in 6 out of 7 songs and credited in composition in 4 out of 7 songs.

Ponzona was written by Swan during their trainee days, they have written other songs in the album as well. They all have participated in writing, producing and choreographing the songs in their debut album so I really hope you can check their other content soon 💕

Yes! Purple Kiss is not your average debut group. They've been fleshing out a lot of content pre-debut, training themselves along the way, and gaining the confidence they needed.

The moment I fell for Chaein and she became my bias was while watching their "DIsney Princess Medley". Her version of "Touch the Sky" literally crushed the original; I didn't even remember the song being in the movie until she made it thousand times better. If you haven't watched yet - do it. Now.

what i find so cool about them is how much they do themselves (lyrics, composing, choreos etc.). Yuki the rapper is japanese but writes all raps herself. Swan (the main vocalist with black hair) is only 17 years old but already one of the best singers I've ever heard. (Their vocalists are super talented like in (G)I-dle)). And all of them could be at least lead dancers in most other groups bc they are so good.

Please Please Please react to their 49 second "intro: crown" dance practice and MV. It's sooooo good and has the same choreographers as "Ponzona"
When I watched their practice, it made my stomach hurt. The choreo looks hard af and there's a lot of quick moves😭
They kind of have been in the game a long time, they just didn't get to debut until now. Chaein was saying in the MV behind that if it'd been just a couple more months, it would've been seven years for her. A couple of them were on Produce 48, a couple are former YG trainees, etc. and then obviously they've been delayed a bit at RBW. I think the amount of experience really shows.
16:06 This part where Jieun starts and the other girls have a staggered entrance and join into choreo that is already occurring is absolutely brilliant. I'm not sure exactly why, but it's so powerful and I can't help but replay it. Choreographer went off with this choreo
Is a difference in the term used on whether they ripple by doing the same moves at slightly different times vs here (where they start moving at different times, but pick up wherever the choreo currently is when they join in)?

And the fact that this track was composed and written by the group members (this was actually a weekly evaluation song back when they were still training) blows my mind. They co-wrote and co-composed their whole debut album. And they choreographed this too! Idk but "purple kiss on bloody top" is the perfect opening statement for them.

Before making their debut, the group has been uploading practice videos on their youtube channel, previously named Practice365. You can tell that by their previous name that they worked really hard for this debut. You might want to check out My Heart Skip A Beat, that song goes hard on choreography (the girls choreographed it themselves)
i totally felt the double-hit comment omg. i'm a dancer and i continuously have to work on overexaggerating my movement, ESPECIALLY hits and isos so that they convey the way i feel like they are in my body! i always feel like i'm going hard as hell and then i watch it back and i'm like........oh. lmao.

Anyways they are from RBW Entertainment which is also the company of MAMAMOO, ONEUS and ONEWE. So it explains why they are so good since pre-debut to debut bcs they came from a very exceptional company. Not to mention that they'd also write most of their songs for their album especially the title track 'Ponzona' which was written by their maknae swan for an evaluation during their training.

Their youtube channel used to he called 365 Practice, where they uploaded basically everything they did pre-debut. They really trained a lot and their channel really showcased that.
Crazy thing is they were already amazing to begin with back when they were just 365 Practice yet they managed to be even better now as Purple Kiss 💕

Honestly just saying they've been in the game for a year now they just finally debut they had many trainee lineup changes and on my birthday actually! July 20th last year they had their first debut trailer everyone being revealed and first released pre debut single on november 26th 2020 "my heart skip a beat"
Another single on January 28 2021 "can we talk again"
And now march 15 ponzona and mini album into the violet

I had been looking forward to you reacting the Purple Kiss. Your reaction was very satifying. There is a very short music video and dance practice for the album introduction Crown. There are the 2 pre debut music videos. Of the other album songs there is a complete choreo for Skip Skip that you can see on their showcase stage.

Sooo off the top of my head for ROTY: aespa (unless they technically 2020 eligible?), Pixy, StayC, Tri.be, Purple Kiss...even Rolling Quartz (though they are experienced musicians) and I'm sure a boy group stan can throw out just as many groups.
Point is that it's gonna be a bloodbath come awards season; so much talent debuting powerfully. I think that the next comebacks will help some separate from the rest but dang, do I appreciate every debut so far in different ways.
