As soon as Tyrus said "Dusty" I knew Dusty was going to hit him with the polka dots story. Lets face it, The Funkasaurus gimmick was fantastic. They should have given him a US or Intercontinental title run during that time.
The funka-saurus debut had my jaw drop in a "is this really happening?" kind of way. If I remember correctly after the dance and pyro goes off Brodus yells, "you weren't expecting that!" And he was right! 😂
I met Tyrus at an Axxess session in Miami the year that debuted, and I told him how much I loved that gimmick. In retrospect hearing this, I think that was probably an insult at the time, but he presented himself so well. The character was amazing, and it worked. So punishment or not, than you for enduring, Tyrus. Truly you are amazing!
You know I get the feeling Vince’s actions weren’t really aimed at Tyrus and was more aimed at HHH. I just get the feeling that Vince had a bit of jealousy towards HHH and he just waited for an excuse to yank the rug from under HHH’s new star protege. Sorta the same way when HHH. Got pulled off NXT and Vince was just waiting to undo all HHH did and inject his own ideas. In the perfect world HHH would be running WWE with Vince sipping margaritas in Florida
The way he tells the story gives 0 indication to what you have said. You’ve created a whole thesis out of nothing. According to Brodus Clay, Vince saw he was funny so wanted to give him a funny gimmick (more true to his real life self). In no way does this seem like a punishment. It may not exactly have been what the guy wanted but he got it over and it worked. You rambling about jealousy conspiracy theories from this just makes me wonder whether you need to spend less time reading wrestling rumours and such online
@A. Carey ran off millions of viewers from what? NXT has never had a million viewers even in its glory days. If the main roster was losing viewers then that’s the result of bad booking/creative from the guys in charge of that.
I remember seeing all the vignettes of him displaying the carnage created by his hands and the one who 'ended' Edge's career. Then suddenly the night of Raw I hear Ernest Miller's old theme and this guy comes out dancing. The confused reaction Ive shown that night was staggering. Lol
The same with me, I was PISSED lol I remember calling a friend of mine as soon as I saw him on the titantron up till this day I speak to him about it 😅
Same that was towards the end of when I stopped watching WWE for a while. It made zero sense how they do all the vignettes and then still have THAT gimmick be what comes out. Made ZERO sense.
I liked Brodus clay wrestling he was to fun to watch I seem him in impact he has some decent matches in impact but the funksarus was just that team back then
Tyrus is that guy who could turn chicken s**t into chicken salad. Rib or not, that says a lot about Tyrus and about him being that good. I loved both gimmicks when he did his WWE run. He is believable in everything he does.
Ironic thing is that he actually got that gimmick over. It’s his mini feud with Big Show that took out his momentum. They pretty much fed him to someone that doesn’t even need a boost. Your perception of his Funkasauras, funny but strong gimmick won’t be the same after watching him get destroyed fairly easily by Big Show without able to put up much of a fight. He went downhill from there.
He actually gets it over. Especially with the Funkadactyls. But the thing is if you got over with a punishment gimmick, Vince won't like it. The gimmick started to get stale when he added Tensai as a partner and made Brodus Clay a heel. The gimmick has promise.

Even though this particular story did get a bit boring, i will say I really love how this interviewer just asks a question and then let’s the person talk without ever interrupting their answer. 👍
It was definitely hit or miss but Brodus' development going to Dusty and such is commendable. i feel like the guy with Albert should have been tag champions at that point as a pair.
I still remember the Funkasaurus debut like it was yesterday... I remember WWE were airing vignettes leading to Brodus' Return and the vignettes made it seem for sure that Brodus was finally gonna have a serious character and was gonna be a monster heel challenging for the World Championship and when the day came for his return and the Funkasaurus "somebody call my momma" music hit and Brodus came out dancing with Naomi and Cameron, my jaw literally dropped to the floor I couldnt believe what I was watching. I wasnt angry or sad just shocked and surprised
Funkasauras if successful could of been the most loved and profitable character in WWE history, the problem was if it was the 1990s it would of worked.
At the end he has a good point there about a part of the business that went away. Even though WWE is PG it seemed like for a while they had nothing specifically for the kids. Like all their gimmicks were just light, PG versions of themselves. I'm 34 and I still enjoy wrestling, but they need to try and get kids and families watching again. That's the future. The future isn't in 34 year old smarks like me who listen to a thousand podcasts and post on message boards and for a while that's all you saw in the audience.

Truth is ...it embarrasses WWE more than the wresters....we all know who is in charge and we all understand who is at fault when things like they especially often do with WWE get lame and oftenly unbearable to watch
Taker had a similar story back when he first met Vince. He made a joke and he was scared that Vince was going to make him into whatever he reference in the joke.
I didn't like The Funkadactyls when it debuted, but it was entertaining and I got to like it. I gave the act two years before it would break up. The Rock; Roman will beat The Rock and officially become The G.O.A.T. Watch.
I gotta say it makes sense now because brodus looked like a titan that was gonna demolish the entire roster. Then he comes out as the funkasaurs which was good but it does now make sense of the drastic change. Good for him when he left wwe he then had the chance to become this demolisher wherever he goes

@@EXPLISITemceehardcore wrestling fans didn't like it. Credit where credit is due, he was the most sold merchandise, toy and over act as it was a throw back to goofy era of pro wrestling .
He wasn't the worst in the ring , had charisma with the one liners and crowd interaction. just got stale over time
Was never a huge fan of Tyrus, but that was a fun clip.
What a great storyteller.
You should check out NWA Powerrrr, he's their TV champ, plays the heel really well, and has recently being doing commentary. He's great on commentary.
@@kermita12 And sexually harrasses women
This is without a doubt is the best story of the year so far. Love it. Much luv to all
i remember as a kid i loved the funkasauras gimmick
Oh my. As a kid? Oh lord
🥵
wasnt that long ago damn...
As soon as Tyrus said "Dusty" I knew Dusty was going to hit him with the polka dots story. Lets face it, The Funkasaurus gimmick was fantastic. They should have given him a US or Intercontinental title run during that time.
It actually was a çool gimmick. I agree The Funkasaurus should've had a title in his hands.
He would have done much better as the Juggernaut gimmick they originally had for him
The funka-saurus debut had my jaw drop in a "is this really happening?" kind of way. If I remember correctly after the dance and pyro goes off Brodus yells, "you weren't expecting that!" And he was right! 😂
At the moment some of the Goofy stuff Sucks. But when looking back, it's actually entertaining and fun.
He pitched the House Of Pain idea which they gave to Mark Henry and renamed it The Hall Of Pain
It wouldn’t be what I would say I want on a wrestling show, but the catchy entrance music, the ladies, the in ring work, all of it got over.
Hats off.
It never got over
@@kalebrunton527 Hm, you don’t think so?
What a great speaker he is and the message resonates so well- do the best with you've been given.
Straight up, his talking in the ring during the match always had me rolling "Should I get him?" "Suplex baby, sheeewah" 🤣
Very underrated performer.
Remember being scared of his promos then confused AF when he came out
Had major potential. Prolly could passed Umaga
specifically how?
You mean tensei?
The fact that his name for holding a title is on a list with Flair, Harley and Dusty couldn't be more of a joke 😂
You do understand shortly after this Vince rebranded FCW and took it away from Dusty and gave HHHH full reign of NXT, RIGHT?
@A. Carey ran off millions of viewers from what? NXT has never had a million viewers even in its glory days. If the main roster was losing viewers then that’s the result of bad booking/creative from the guys in charge of that.
I'm 100 % with you on hating to dance. Great to listen to you, enjoy Gutfeld, especially when it comes to your turn.
I was like wtf! Lol 🤣
I'm going to save this and show it for motivation purposes. Holy cow what a testimony. Your the best sir!
The dusty story was great hahaha
I will never forget the debut of the Funkasaurus, it was awesome.
I only say Funk is on a roll when i watch Terry matches...pro wrestling stuff...
I liked Brodus clay wrestling he was to fun to watch I seem him in impact he has some decent matches in impact but the funksarus was just that team back then
decent aka good jobber at best
Tyrus is a great talent, a great talker and very very smart. Every time he talks he truly has my attention!
He’s a dumbass. That’s why he’s on Fox News with that host gutter licker.
Tyrus is that guy who could turn chicken s**t into chicken salad. Rib or not, that says a lot about Tyrus and about him being that good. I loved both gimmicks when he did his WWE run. He is believable in everything he does.
And now he's an ass on Fox news.
Broadus clay is amazing man
He was so much better in Impact when he was EC3’s bodyguard then turned to Big Money Matt Hardy’s.
I love your Brock Lesnar TUF reference 🤣
@@elijahhill6602 Need to check that out!
Over? That gimmick crashed like Kobe’s helicopter
@@Captain_AAhab dude
To be honest without the fankasaurus gimmick he’ll probably wouldn’t even be remembered
The way he really put thought into the Funkadactals is awesome to hear.
I really miss him.. face or heal loved to see him wrestle.
Checkout NWA wrestling on TH-cam. He's also great on commentary, very knowledgeable and puts over even the babyfaces.
@@kermita12 Thanks I will.
I’m glad he Mentioned Yoshi Tatsu I really miss that guy! 😥 & Brodus, man WWE was so different back than
Vince was tryin to make him be like Rikishi before he ran over Stone Cold 😂
What an interesting interview! Such a well spoken guy!
My kid still has his funkasaurus wrestling buddy
Love Tyrus. And the interviewer i remember he started way back then glad to see hes still doin good
He actually gets it over. Especially with the Funkadactyls. But the thing is if you got over with a punishment gimmick, Vince won't like it. The gimmick started to get stale when he added Tensai as a partner and made Brodus Clay a heel. The gimmick has promise.
this gimmick had promise? lol....
Tell me you’re a fan of current WWE without telling me you’re a fan of current WWE lmao
it contributed to the comedy kids show that wwe is today. it was NEVER over. Only thing good about it was naomi fine ass
@@Captain_AAhab Well dude wasnt wrestling back in the day so why would we think about the old wwe/wwf? And even back then they had some stupid ass ginmicks. Especially in the 80s my gawd 💀💀💀
@@DeathlyBioShock lol wether Funkasaurus happened or not
WWE would always go into the comedy kids show route they have done. Look at the people behind the creative for christ sake
You're second point is correct tho..Naomi is THICCC
The Funkasaurus . is the only reason we remember Brodus Clay. It is still today the best entrance of any Super star to this date. Well done it was, well played, well acted, and well received from the fans. One of my best memories of the WWE. A fan for life.
I remember the build up for Brodus debut and him being promoted as a monster then out of nowhere he debuts as some big Flash Funk type character and I was like wtf
Even though this particular story did get a bit boring, i will say I really love how this interviewer just asks a question and then let’s the person talk without ever interrupting their answer. 👍
Great content as usual CVV!
Thanks man!
0:38 “it’s still cena till it’s not” THANK YOU, someone FINALLY understands that. wwe from 2006/7 - Till the END, is “John Cena & the WWE”.
It was definitely hit or miss but Brodus' development going to Dusty and such is commendable.
i feel like the guy with Albert should have been tag champions at that point as a pair.
Michael Cole's reaction when Clay debut. "What the...?" 😂😂😂😂😂
That’s an incredible Dusty Rhodes story 😂
Honestly Brodus Clay was always one of my favorites, I wish he was back in WWE, maybe his gimmick would be more popular now a days
I loved the gimmick. That was one of the bright spots of raw at the time
I still remember the Funkasaurus debut like it was yesterday...
Man... I could listen to stories about Dusty All Day Long by Tyrus! Dude almost had me in tears.
Jim Cornette fan I see.
@@ianrocco8453 Idk what that has to do with my post but if he said this recently then, I agree. Idk what you're coming at me for. I don't think there's anything radical or insulting about my comment.
@@MPOMusic88 I wasn't coming at you just agreeing with your comment.
@@ianrocco8453 Sorry, my bad. I'm used to comments with "Cornette" in them being a burial these days.
@@MPOMusic88 No worries friend and enjoy the wrestling. 🏆
The funkasuasrus was punishment but to me it was a childhood dance floor
I wonder why no one ever asks why he stole Ernest Miller's entrance music.
The Cat?
@@napalmwedding yup
Because these kids are not true wrestling fans just a bunch of marks
The Cat had a Dance Off with James Brown in WCW; I think that it was on a Pay-Per-View.
Yeah can someone explain why they use the same song?
Anytime anyone talks about Dusty, they always mention the passion, creativity, and spark, plus being able to see a wrestlers potential and work them towards it. Truly amazing person.
Funny, I had quit watching wrestling before Tyrus was in it, so I know him from the Greg Gutfield show (weeknights on Fox News - aBSOLUTELY not the “standard“ fox show if you’ve never seen it, definitely check it out), so for me, it’s cool to finally hear some wrestling stories from him
I used to watch Red Eye with Greg, and I actually watched new wrestling for a short time and caught him doing the Funkasaurus gimmick, it’s still surreal seeing them together 😂
Probably one the funniest CVV interviews I've seen.
Imagine he took Undertaker's advice and ‘took the fall’ his career would have been over after that.
It was over afterwards anyway.
what a cool story rip dusty and props to tyrus
It’s interesting to know how this gimmick came about, I was surprised when it happened cuz as he said he was portrayed as a monster heel. But it all worked out I suppose it got Naomi on the main roster:) plus it was entertaining while it lasted
Tyrus is a REALLY GOOD interview
We're the only ones who got punished. We had to watch him dance, wrestle poorly, then dance again.
I still listen to his theme on occasion because it’s so dang catchy. I love it.
Dusty Rhodes what a legend!!
Love this story and your humbleness.
It was a fun character. It seemed like he was going to do the original idea a couple of years later, until he was released.
Truth is ...it embarrasses WWE more than the wresters....we all know who is in charge and we all understand who is at fault when things like they especially often do with WWE get lame and oftenly unbearable to watch
Those Andersons were some tuff sobs!! You learned from Legends!
Not gonna lie, he made it work.
if your mission is to get to the next segment, sure.
Great story! I love hearing behind scenes stuff
Taker had a similar story back when he first met Vince. He made a joke and he was scared that Vince was going to make him into whatever he reference in the joke.
Awesome story, I'm glad we finally get to hear about this. Dusty is awesome for helping Him too.
I didn't like The Funkadactyls when it debuted, but it was entertaining and I got to like it. I gave the act two years before it would break up. Always knew Naomi would become a survivor and move on to become a mega-star in WWE. --
Been watching WWE for decades. I know how the show will play out before it ends. Calling it now. Roman VS.
What a great story sad that it ended it up like it did but glad that he made it work.
Way more respect to him now. Good interview
