      Schumi winning 5 titles in a row, Vettel's 4 in a row, Hamilton's Mercedes dominance and Verstappen currently cruising to his 3rd consecutive title are *all* darker days for the sport than this.
      At least this evoked feelings in people, sparked conversation, coming out of the 80's into the 90's it was still kind of a given that to truly be *the man* you had to put your life on the line. Senna did just that, put his life on the line and didn't quite pay off in this particular instance, good TV though and an image etched into the very fabric of F1 for eternity. Had Senna survived he probably would have just turned into another Piquet after his career was over anyway.

    • @paultruesdale7680
      @paultruesdale7680 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Piquet is nothing like Senna.
      Senna would have probably have gone on to use his influence in regards to safety.
      Piquet as always been self serving, in my opinion.
      The problem with today’s F1 is it is a spec class with no variance.
      Just pure engineering and rules.

    In case anyone was wondering , the reason he smashed into the wall was that the team had welded on an extra piece onto the steering shaft to bring the steering wheel closer to him. The weld eventually fatigued, snapped and he lost steering. I guess nobody thought a fail-safe was in order.

    Just shows how technology and safety has changed today.
    Iv seen far far more horrific accidents then that and the driver either gets out himself, or is assisted out. The halo on today’s cars prevents exactly what killed him.
    A tire from his car literally hit him on the head and forced his head abruptly back into his seat, causing major skull fractures, which ultimately killed him.
    The car wasn’t even that badly damaged, just the lack of safety equipment on the car killed him.

    • @lillerb
      @lillerb ปีที่แล้ว +344

      it wasn't the tire, there were no fractures. It was the suspension of the wheel gone through his head. His helmet was full of blood, he had fatal brain injuries.

    • @boxboxbox624
      @boxboxbox624 ปีที่แล้ว +146

      The car was very badly damaged. You can see a huge crack in the monocoque to Ayrton's left side that runs the full length down. It takes an incredibly big impact to break a car in half like that.

      @@user-kx6gx8do1d Senna's death was’t caused by the collision, but by the suspension rod going through his brain at his right eye finding a gap of a few millimeters between the helmet and the visor. He didn't have any of the injuries you're describing here. Nothing was visible on his helmet either, apart from the fact that the fabric lining on the inside was pure blood. But others also said that there were no fractures or other injuries. Even Dr. Sid Watkins said things completely opposite to what you are stating here. John Bisignano said there were no broken bones, or any brusing in his body. If the suspension didn't hit him right there, he could have gone back to the paddock for the spare car. A Halo blocks large foreign bodies from entering the cockpit area and hitting the driver, a Halo would not have helped in this crash as it was pure blunt-force trauma from hitting the wall at incredibly high speeds. Even the suspension hitting him in the head wouldn't have been caught by the Halo. Sadly, this was only preventable with better crash-barriers/run-off area and a failsafe on his steerings weld.

Senna sofreu muito preconceito, como ainda muitos brasileiros sofrem no exterior hoje em dia, mas não é vitimizando, contudo, antigamente era bem pior. Prost said that when senna died a part of him died that day.
      Prost was always very close to sennas family from 1984. He was always good friends with sennas parents and sennas sister.
      I thought it was a great gesture of respect from Prost. And sennas family asked him to be a pallbearer and sennas family asked him to be the director of the senna foundation, a position he still holds.
      There’s a lot more to the Prost senna story than what most people know.
      There rivalry was fierce and yet deep down they both respected each other very deeply.

    A very tragic weekend for F1 with the loss of Roland Ratzenberger on the Saturday and Ayrton Senna on Sunday.
