I love Sweet Valley, there was a short series called Unicorn Club that was about Jessica and her friends. They're so hard to find now, my collection is so patchy! EDIT: Probably should've waited to comment when I'd watched the whole video, you've just said the whole thing about Unicorn club!
I remember being obsessed with The Babysitters Club books! Since they were numbered my mom had a list that we took when we went to used book sales or garage sales! I had wayyyy too many of them and was a fan girl before I knew what one was
I'm uploading on a Thursday today because it's Throwback Thursday and I'm going through a ton of the books I used to read when I was in middle school! Did any of you guys read the same ones?
Did you ever read the Sweet Valley Jr. High series? She totally retconned their entire life and wrote a series where they left their middle school to switch to a new school, and these came out waaaaay later than the original ones. They were pretty good though. XD She also apparently went on to write some crazy series like after college where Elizabeth moves to London because she and Jessica get in a fight, gets taken in as a maid for the royal family, and falls in love with the Prince. I literally couldn't make this stuff up.
OMG!! Finally, someone else remembers and loved the Sweet Valley Jr. High Books! Those were my favourites in the Sweet Valley Universe. I've been rereading them lately and they're so good!
Oh my god I am obsessed with these kinds of books I collect every series of sweet valley, full house, books the babysitters club, Lizzie m.and Mary Kate and Ashley. I'm probably going on 250 in my collection
I loved the Boxcar Children. I read so many of them, and still remember loving the ice cream store one. The Amy Number Seven or Replica Series was also a favorite of mine!
This is great, definitely more nostalgic book unboxing please. :) I'm German, so I didn't know any of the books but it was very interesting and fun to see what someone from the US might've read as a child/tween.
Three years ago in fifth grade i was obsessed with Full House and my class would sell recycled books and smencils on fridays so throughout like two weeks i bought three Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen "Two of a Kind" books.
Aww Sweet Valley! I had some of those, I was obsessed with The Babysitters Club, Saddle Club, Goosebumps and Sabrina the Teenage Witch books...there were others but those were the biggies.
+Karen Kavett me too! Yes, there were a lot of books - I still have a bunch of them stashed away and read them when I need an escape from adulthood, haha.
AMAZING!!! I was a bit addicted to the Sweet Valley ones but I didn't own any, I read all the ones the library had. I actually starting reading the Kids ones in about 2nd grade (1992-ish) and the Twins ones not long after. I also never got into the high school ones but I did love the Sweet Valley High tv show! There were also Sweet Valley University books which I never bothered with either. I did own a handful of those Michelle and Stephanie books. I was way more into Babysitters Club, Babysitter's Little Sister, and Goosebumps though. Unfortunately I don't have them anymore. I actually decided they were babyish and got rid of them around the time I started high school. And I never left anything at my parents house when I moved out so none of my childhood stuff is left, except for a small stack of Berenstain Bears books I purposely kept for future children. Even at 12 I knew i wanted them for my kids lol. OMG GHOSTWRITER!!! I watched it when it originally airead in the mid 90's and am still obsessed with it to this day (I have the first season on DVD...still waiting for the rest to come out like 5 years later. HURRY UP. And I also still want an official Ghostwriter pen SO BAD but can't find one anywhere) but I totally forgot about the books! I had one with an Alex story in one half and then you flip it over and the other half was a Gabby story. I don't remember what the stories were though. Oh man if I ever see those books at a thrift shop or used book store I'm going to have to buy them! I did see a couple once at a Value Village store and I passed them up. I now regret that decision haha. Thanks for an awesome blast from the past!
I was never into sweet valley or full house, but i loved any books with animals... and I too was obsessed with dolphins. I loved the dolphin diaries! Also I loved any books with horses... "Pony Pals" books were my jam. Also boxcar children and the American Girl books! So many great 90s book series...
Omg I loved the full house Stephanie books as a preteen. I think there's one book if I remember correctly, where Stephanie's friends started a club without her. Lol!!!!
hi im turning 33 and I just found all the sweet valley university, sweet valley high and sweet valley junior high and complete Babysitters club series that I grew up reading only a few from and I bought all the complete series now :) im not ashamed hehehehe
oh my god! your early teens was literally my early teens and considering I am 26 I was clearly a late bloomer in reading according to my age. I had soooo many of these! loove love loved Full House and Sweet Valley Kids :') I even had the Sweet Valley companion book to planning parties AND the Lizzie McGuire create her outfits companion book as well as the Full House Michelle books on planning sleepovers and having the best summer ever. god I was obsessed.
Wow, quite an impressive collection! I read a lot as I kid, but I didn't own near as many books. I think I must have used the library frequently. Also, I definitely remember that Parent Trap book.
+Karen Kavett I am so excited. Blast from the past! I didn't get very into the Sweet Valley series myself, I was into Baby Sitters Little Sister and Mary Kate and Ashley mystery series.
Oh my gosh my childhood lol. I remember LIVING off the Babysitter's Club. When I was like eight my brother got diagnosed with diabetes, and I remember my mom offering me a piece of candy and I went "I don't want it if he can't have it" just because I'd read the same thing in the Babysitter's Club books. I still laugh thinking of it; it's so embarrassing.
i loved the collection of books you have there watched ghost writer as a kid and full house stephanie i read the big fix up mix up and sweet valley twins and kids still wished i had those books
Sweet Valley Twins was set in the 6th grade, Sweet Valley Jr. High was set in the eight grade and they get rezoned to a different school. I sometimes feel like I was the only one reading Jr. High lol.
I read Full House Michelle also. Oh, and Full House Sisters series. Those were a book series of both Stephanie and Michelle. I would wonder why they didn't do a DJ book series
I totally read most of those books!!! I didn't own many of them that you mentioned though. Most of the Full House and Sweet Valley books I read were from the library. I read a few High books, but mostly stuck to their younger years. I only remember liking Elizabeth more and one book was about a Halloween party? Now my most obsessed series was Babysitter Club and the Kids series. Oh boy, I literally had almost every single book (I had a giant bookcase that was bolted to the wall) and my mom always had a running list of what numbers I needed when she went to garage sales. you're so lucky. I don't have any of my old books. they all got sold at our garage sales...
Hi! I really loved the Ghostwriter books! I have two of them though. I also had a full house book, it was about Jesse. My sister loved the sweet valley books. Thank you for the video! Brought back fond memories:-)
my mom has sweetvalley books. bot alot but she said she had like a lot back when she was in highschool. but got lost in her school because they were asked to bring them to school. ahhh i red he jessica the popstar its cool. i would be so happy if the sweet valley was out this yr but sad since that was back in the 90s. i would buy them and collect all of them if i were in america.
It's so fun to revisit old books from your childhood :-) I'm currently reading A Series of Unfortunate Events, and it brings back a lot of memories. (Thing is that the series is 13 books long and I only ever read the first 4 as a kid, ah well haha)
I watched ghost writer, never knew of the books, can even remember the theme song. sweet valley twins and sweet valley kids I read but I'm a different age group as you but a millennial none-the-less, the oldest kind of millennial. This is great though cuz I can relate to two out of the five or six series you pointed out, you had Lizzie McGuire and I had Clarissa explains it all, however who wasn't obsessed with full house?
wheres your diy videos karen? i missed all your diys, i do really hope you make more diy videos than books or critique or craft utilities talks. i hope you make one very soon xx
No no no!! Sweet Valley Twins was 6th grade and Unicorn Club was 7th grade!!! How could you forget!? Heehee. Honest mistake. I had loads of SWT books, a few Full House Stephanie books... some Sweet Valley Kids, Sweet Valley High, even Sweet Valley U... Babysitters Club on occasional but SWT was my addiction. On a day home from school I could go through 3 a day :D Loved the mega editions, Magic Christmas and BIG for Christmas were 2 of my favorites. I remember later seeing the movie Big with Tom Hanks and thinking they stole the idea from SWT.... yeah... Great memories thanks for sharing!
I'm older than you but I was in, like Grade 7 when Ghostwriter was first on in the early-mid 90s and I loved that show! I will even admit (with much embarrassment) it was one of the first things I ever wrote fanfic for. I mean, back then no one even knew it was fanfic, it was just writing new adventures because there were so few seasons and you never knew if PBS would play the new ones or not. Never read the Sweet Valley books though. My parents didn't really approve of mass market paperbacks. I did manage to sneak a couple of the GirlTalk! books (based on that board game). **hangs head** They were like forbidden fruit because I wasn't allowed to read/own them. Kept them in my locker at school.
+Mutable Dreamer I was the same way with teen magazines since my parents would never buy them for me! The few that I did manage to get my hands on, I read over and over and over again.
So I'm pretty sure we're the same age and this was such a fun walk down memory lane!:) I too was (am) obsessed with anything Full House/Mary Kate and Ashley! Please tell me you also had the Two of a Kind books? haha
+The1stephie YES. I had basically every single product that had Mary Kate and Ashley's face on it. I haven't found their books yet, but hopefully over Thanksgiving!
+Karen Kavett Thanks to autotune you can live your dreams and spice up your life! (I'm assuming that book was inspired by Spice Girls? Or am I too early?)

I had been saving all my books for my daughter... now that she's nearly 11... just so you know. Sadly, she has absolutely NO INTEREST. At least, that's how it was with Little House on the Prairie... Maybe if I find my Sweet Valley books... Hmmm... Anyways - thank you for this trip down memory lane!
Karen Kavett oh yeahhh. I distinglty remember something about a bullied "geek girl" who goes missing and a sabotaged summer camp competition? I think I had a third too. It was very Nancy Drew.
My mom was in those! She was Elizabeth and Jessica when she was a kid!
I’m almost 43 and want to get back to sweet valley high books lol

Didn’t know there were full house books
Okay so I have this never ending dilemma regarding ghost writer! I have this vague memory of an episode about this purple blobby monster type thing. It was broken into two episodes, but for some reason I never got to see part two! If you know what I am talking about, please clarify this for me, as I'm not even sure anymore if this actually happened or if it was something I created in my mind. :/
+iheartyuki YES. It was actually the last mystery they filmed, since that season got cut short in the middle. The plot was they were writing a short story for a contest, and they wrote about the little sister's bubble gum monster toy coming to life. When the monster turned human-size, it gave me nightmares too!
+Karen Kavett This conversation makes me happy. (Especially now that I know for sure I'm not insane) haha, thanks!
This is completely random but I think you should read The Mortal Instruments series
Please do more!!!
+Alyssa Pink I already filmed episode #2!
