might actually be THE most underrated show
Easily one of the best TV shows ever. It's not easy to have all these profound monologues without being annoying.
My favorite character on the show and one of the best written and best acted. He knew people underestimated him and he used that to his advantage to be the last captain standing at the end of the show.
I love his line to black beard
"To be underestimated, it's a powerful gift..."
And in reality, he was one of the worst pirates in the history of the golden age.

I love Anne and Jack's relationship. They know each other deep down, they try to grow with each other, accepting the other's flaws. Doesn't matter who, where or when, they are certain they will grow old or die together
Loyal to a fault, underestimated to the detriment of everyone, and only craving respect was Jack. His character is based off Calico Jack, the pirate who designed the most recognizable Jolly Roger in history. He flew the black flag with the skull and two crossed ⚔ underneath. He earned his part in history. Respect.

I want to acknowledge the gift you've crafted in this tribute to the Black Sails' interpretation of Jack Rackham. This tribute is beautifully edited and a real thoughtful exploration of his depth of character and how it evolves through the arc of the show. Netflix has just acquired Black Sails apparently and it came back on my radar and began begging for some fanfic and I came here to your visually edited ode to Jack Rackham and OH THE INSPIRATION. Time to post a link to this tribute! I'm so grateful that with one search, I found myself here at just the perfect gem for fitting into pirate fic hopefully worthy of his vision and snark. 🏴☠✍

The most underrated show ever...top 5 all time
At first I absolutely couldn't stand Jack Rackham or John Silver but it wasn't long before I was torn between which of the two is my favorite character of not just the entire series, but of all time.
One of my favorite characters!! Not at first...but as the series evolved so did he...he and Anne i really didnt understand either... but they always had the others' back... awesome... especially when Anne almost killed herself saving all those pirates including Jack! He also had the greatest way with words!! ❤❤
John Rackham (1682 - 1720), commonly known as Calico Jack, was a pirate operating in the Caribean 1718-1720, the heyday of piracy. He is remembered for two female crew, Mary Read and Anne Bonny. Rackham deposed Charles Vane from his position as captain of the sloop Ranger. He accepted the King's Pardon in 1719. He returned to piracy in 1720. Soon after was captured by Jonathan Barnet, an English privateer, tried in Jamaica and hanged. 'Black Sails' is a glorious historical drama, 4 series (14 DVD: 34hr 29min).
Also the first and only pirate captain to ever talk his way out of an execution in 1719 😂

Jack & Anne are great!
This actor did such a good job. The character he created was so unique...he created one of the most fun and memorable characters to watch that ive ever seen. I am no expert on good acting. But wow. Every time I watched him I thought about how creative he must be to have created that characters mannerisms and speech patterns.

Since it it had been 5 years, which seems to be the normal progression of handing down the title of "Dread Pirate Roberts", Riar who had likely just taken the title from Cumberbun whom he had likely served with for some time and liked enough to be handed the title to in the same manor that Wesley describes.
Grandpa reads that "Westley didn't reach his destination. His ship was captured by the 'Dread Pirate Roberts' [WHO NEVER LEFT CAPTIVES ALIVE], which means. When "Riar" let Westley live because of his begging. He expected that Westley would do anything (to your point) to survive in order to get back to Buttercup.....
AND =] on a and much DARKER NOTE (thank you very much) it means that Westley immediately became AND for 5 years was productive member of a crew that
"NEVER LEFT CAPTIVES ALIVE!"
to maintain the Revenge's reputation.
Charles Vane was my favorite Black Sails Character, Rackham was my second because, and now I realize that he was a closer to life depiction of Westley.
