Every single movie he's ever starred in needs to be in this list. He is THE greatest actor of his generation. He steals the show in every movie he's in!
Not in "Gangs of New York"; Daniel Day-Lewis overshadowed him, and he did the same with Paul Dano in "There Will Be Blood" and pretty much everyone in "Lincoln" and "My Left Foot" DiCaprio is great, but he's certainly not in the same league as Daniel Day-Lewis
MortyBoy15 Edward Norton? HA! Now that gave me a good laugh. Romeo & Juliet was horribly overacted, Titanic was his worst performance, his performances in "The Beach" and "J. Edgar" we're laughable, "Blood Diamond" wasn't bad but his accent and portrayal wasn't believable. Yeah, he's had plenty of lackluster performances, still a great actor though.

People like you need to understand that Oscars are all about the one performance, and that the rest of a person's filmography doesn't mean shit.

But let my give you an example: 1993: The Oscar for best actor went to Al Pacino, who's a great actor, no doubt, but his performance in Scent of the Woman was... yeah good, but not great. He did not win an Oscar for any other of his great rolls like Scarface or the Godfather, wich defenetly deserved one. In that year, Leonardo DiCaprio played a mentally unhealthy kid in What's eating Gilbert Grape, wich was one of the best roles i've ever seen him in, wich is really saying something, but just got nominated for whatever reason.
Walter Kowalski Maybe Pacino's performance didn't have to be great. If there were no great performances that year, then it's possible that a so-so performance could win. this man has it all. Comedy in WOWS, action in blood diamond, thriller in inception/shutter island, Romance in Titanic/R&J, Drama in Gatsby and many more and also villain in Django! Super talented.
The dude brad Pitt is more talented,..He's done Dramas, thrillers, Horrors, Fantasy, actions, adventures...but also got no Oscar, war, sports movie, romance etc..
One of the top 10 actors ever! He can do just about anything! He's been snubbed so much, but I'm sure he'll get the Oscar someday. He's great in just about everything, but I think my favorite character is still Jack Dawson. Loved him in Titanic!
My Opinion... 1. Jordan Belfort, The Wolf Of Wall Street 2. Howard Hughes, The Aviator 3. William Costigan Jr, The Departed 4. Arnie Grape, Whats Eating Gilbert Grape 5. Calvin Candie, Django Unchained
+Calvin Candie he is not terrible in Titanic, it is kind of an easy character to play but he is perfect as Jack. and he is absolutely perfect as Romeo as well
elin rosenqvist he was cheesy and unconvincing in Titanic. I don't blame him I think he had a shitty script to work with but the point remains that he was way better in Romeo and Juliet.
Just watched "whats eating Gilbert Grape" By far my favorite of his performances. He is so convincing, i reccomend ut to everybody. It had me crying the hole time.
in my opinion Leo D is the best actor in hollywood, period. every role he is in he makes come to life. when i watch a movie with him in it i can always rest assured it never seems "acted". my favourite movie that he is in (not necessarily my fav role he played) is Inception
He's embarrassed about it because of the attention he got and didn't want to be type cast as a heart throb and just get roles in the romantic category hence why he has always done dark roles after that.
I'm from a older generation, for us it's one of the best pieces made, you won't understand as it doesn't have drugs, whores, fancy cars, bling bling and blood in it. You don't know real art when you see it in front of you.
NorsiXa Sorry, hut I think you are confused. Romeo + Juliet uses Shakespeare's original dialogue, but it is set in modern times. There are guns and cars, and there's a gun that literally has sword written on it. This is not a masterful production, like the one from the 60s.
Every single Leo's movie is just awesome. What about Shutter Island? Revolutionary Road? Inception? He's brilliant. He should have won dozens of Oscars 👏
i think everyone just got used to how good he is... people should appreciate how great of an actor he is!! but you know what? it's better for people to wonder why you don't have an oscar, than why you have one.
I don't understand why people are up in arms over the fact that he hasn't won an oscar yet. Has he been deserving ? Possibly, but he's now only been nominated 4 times. O'Toole was nominated 8 times and never won. Pacino 6 times before winning. Olivier had ten nominations and one win. So , he still has plenty of time. Eventually he'll win
gregg mikulla you know what? at least these actors were nominated so many times!! there are so many roles that deserved a nomination, but he didn't get it. maybe because he is so amazing, that people are so shocked at the fact that others are getting recognized while he deserves it more!! and i COMPLETELY agree with you, these actors did not get what they deserved, but these are in the past.. people are afraid that history is just repeating itself.
Leonardo DiCaprio has come a long way since his child hood days. He has a great list of roles to his credit and it was great to finally see him win an Academy Award for his performance in "The Revanent" (2015).
Top 10 Performances by Leo in my opinion 1)Teddy Daniels in Shutter Island 2)Jordan Belfort in The Wolf on Wall Street 3)William "Billy" Costigan Jr. in The Departed 4)Frank William Abagnale Jr. in Catch me if you Can 5)Calvin J. Candie in D'Jango Unchained 6)Dom Cobb in Inception 7)Jack Dawson in Titanic 8)Howard Hughes in The Aviator 9)J. Edgar Hoover in J. Edgar 10)Jim Carroll in Basketball Diaries Honorable mentions:in no real order Toby in This Boy's Life Danny Archer in Blood Diamond Arnie Grape in What's Eating Gilbert Grape Frank Wheeler in Revolutionary Road Louis The IV in The Man in the Iron Mask Richard in the Beach Romeo Montage in Romeo+Juliet Amsterdam Vallon in Gangs of New York
Just watched Gilbert Grape for first time, never knew there was a film with Johnnny Depp and Leo in together, great movie. I really wish someone would make a gritty, family, godfathery type film with my fav top 5 actors in it. Gary Oldman, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sir Ben Kingsley, and Sam Rockwell. It would have to be a gripping story with a great script, and a director that could really work the best out of his actors. Oh well one can dream.
Leonardo do not need an Oscar to be a legend. His talent and personality are bigger, than Oscar, and the Academymembers, voting against him, must realise this...
This list needs to be updated because he was incredible in Django Unchained, The Great Gatsby and The Wolf of Wall Street. But yeah, Leo is incredible in every movie.
The Academy always screws up. They acknowledge their mistake like years later and end up giving them an oscar for a performance not even worthy, eg (The Great) Al Pachino getting an award for Scent of a Woman, he deserved oscars before this, Also Scorsese who only received one award, and peter o'toole in which they gave the honorary in acknowledgement of their mistakes the past 50 years. I bet they will give Leo an award years later to compensate him for their mistake.
And least we forget Basketball Diaries, that was a powerful, gut wrenching performance in the beginning of his career , showing that he was going on to Great Things

I would kick Titanic and Romeo & Juliet out of the list and add The Wofl of Wall Street and Revolutionary Road
Wolf of Wall Street is from the end of 2013, and this video is from the end of 2012, so yeah, makes sense. It should, however, be present on some new list.
Julia Witmer this movie is an awesome drama. The performance of the two main characters are amazing, try to play such a couple, when there are no great effects or other animated hollywood bullshit, just the relationship of two people.
Mike Lion the acting was no doubt incredible.. i mean u cant go wrong with kate winslet and leonardo.. and it was very realistic in portraying their relationship.. however, i personally hated the whole obvious message of "womens rights" with abortion.. they tried to make the husband seem like the controlling one who wouldnt let his wife do what she wanted or get an abortion when she was really just the selfish one who was ready to kill her child just so she could do what SHE wanted. it was definetly a movie to discuss.. im just very against abortion so i very against the concepts of the movie.
I know Romeo and Juliet is a very cheesy and classic romance, but his role in the movie was stunning. He deserved an Oscar for that movie and he didn't even get nominated. Guess the old people that run the Oscars don't really pay attention to the soul of the acting.
he won silver bear for that. it's just people prefer badass characters more than romantic flower boy. he did a good job as romeo and jack dawson and i'm not even a fan of romance films
Good thing I'm not the only one who loves action or whatever type of genre, but thanks for appreciating the romance too. Worded very nicely. Thank you for the information. *****

#8.Shutter Island
#9.Revolutionary Road
#10.Catch me if you can
And gatsby
Duka Honerable mention maybe.
Well, monsieur candie, you had my curiosity.......now you have my attention.
Rossi the Bossi lol thanks
RaptorWolf81 Yah he was amazing in that
He should win as oscar for most nomination.
Where’s Dom Cobb from Inception & Hugh Glass from the Revenant?
My favorite was What's Eating Gilbert Grape
Same
mine too
Watched yesterday. Mine too
Leonardo is what you call an “icon”
Why is Jack Dawson #9? Why?
Love how What's Eating Gilbert Grape was number 1.. He did a outstanding job.
this man has it all.
Atheist603 Brad Pitt can't hold a candle to Leonardo DiCaprio
he better get something for wolf of wall street, that movie was absolutely awesome.
He got a Golden Globe!
Wolf of Wall Street, The Revenant, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood... This list needs to be updated!
One of the top 10 actors ever! He can do just about anything! He's been snubbed so much, but I'm sure he'll get the Oscar someday. He's great in just about everything, but I think my favorite character is still Jack Dawson. Loved him in Titanic!
My Opinion...
1. Jordan Belfort, The Wolf Of Wall Street
2. Howard Hughes, The Aviator
3. William Costigan Jr, The Departed
4. Arnie Grape, Whats Eating Gilbert Grape
5. Calvin Candie, Django Unchained
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN.
Blood Diamond destroys all of his other accents
Good list.
Romeo + Juliet performance better than Titanic's? LOL okay.
absolutely. titanic is overrated
+Jon Snow He was terrible in Titanic, I agree, but in R+J I thought he made the perfect Romeo, totally looked the part. Don't you think?
+Jon Snow He was way better in Romeo and Juliet. His performance in Titanic is terrible.
Gilbert Grape performance is clearly his best performance. It was and still utterly amazing.
Titanic
Why is Jack Dawson #9? Why?
Where’s Dom Cobb from Inception & Hugh Glass from the Revenant?
I'm totally facinated of him acting as Arnie. It's so convincing I can't get it.
just give him an oscar already!!!!!!!! he deserves it!!!!
Shutter island and the revenant are my favs, but you can't go wrong with any Leo film, he's amazing!!
Best Actor of this generation by far.
gifted actor, shines every time
Finally he won an Oscar. He truly deserves it.
Just watched "whats eating Gilbert Grape" By far my favorite of his performances. He is so convincing, i reccomend ut to everybody. It had me crying the hole time.
Blood Diamonds is hands down one of the greatest films ever made.
His performance in What 's Eating Gilbert Grape was very great . Plus the ending was sad .
in my opinion Leo D is the best actor in hollywood, period. every role he is in he makes come to life. when i watch a movie with him in it i can always rest assured it never seems "acted".
my favourite movie that he is in (not necessarily my fav role he played) is Inception
Wait, he's embarrassed by The Titanic but not Romeo and Juliet? LOL
Laughing at a Shakespeare masterpiece, you must be a kiddie born in the 90s or later
He's embarrassed about it because of the attention he got and didn't want to be type cast as a heart throb and just get roles in the romantic category hence why he has always done dark roles after that.
NorsiXa have you seen the movie? It's a piece of shit
The Wolf of Wall Street!! That's my favorite DiCaprio performance!
it came out after this list. but yes it definitely deserves a spot
The movie is of 2013 and the video of 2012
Well I don't give a shit! They asked what my favorite Leonardo DiCaprio role was and I told them!
Blood Diamond Acting was brilliant
i think everyone just got used to how good he is... people should appreciate how great of an actor he is!! but you know what? it's better for people to wonder why you don't have an oscar, than why you have one.
Agree ;)
Extremely well put. I'm gonna use that a lot.
Blood Diamond has to be his most underrated role, that whole movie is just great, not just entertaining but a deep movie with a great message
Oh my god give him a fucking oscar already. Holy shit.
^^
Leonardo DiCaprio has come a long way since his child hood days. He has a great list of roles to his credit and it was great to finally see him win an Academy Award for his performance in "The Revanent" (2015).
He was good in the great Gatsby, but I can't wait to see him play 18th century killer Dr. HH Holmes.
not sure yet, its in development
This guy's birthday is the same as mine,16 of May.Great Day.
***** It's that pushing to just mention it,I know you do not care:).
Hi
This man gets the best damn roles... Obviously because he is the best damn actor so he probably has any movie he wishes to choose from
Best actor of our generation 💙
The fact that he can act so well in general let alone portray so many characters so well and realistically shows how amazing Leo is ❤️
Top 10 Performances by Leo in my opinion
1)Teddy Daniels in Shutter Island
2)Jordan Belfort in The Wolf on Wall Street
3)William "Billy" Costigan Jr. in The Departed
4)Frank William Abagnale Jr. in Catch me if you Can
5)Calvin J. Candie in D'Jango Unchained
6)Dom Cobb in Inception
7)Jack Dawson in Titanic
8)Howard Hughes in The Aviator
9)J. Edgar Hoover in J. Edgar

Frank Wheeler in Revolutionary Road
Louis The IV in The Man in the Iron Mask
Richard in the Beach
Romeo Montage in Romeo+Juliet
Amsterdam Vallon in Gangs of New York
Oh and I forgot his role in Revolutionary Road which was pretty good also.
Wolf of Wall Street hadn't come out when this list was made
Elias Shaw I know,I was just giving my opinions on his greatest performances, yet.
Right man!
What about Toby in "This Boy's Life"?
Django, and the wolf of wall street would both be here if the list was updated. The man gets better all the time!
LEONARDO DICAPRIO WAS SUPERBLY OUTSTANDING IN THE DEPARTED.
Where the FUCK is Django Unchained??? One of his best performances EVER!
YES!!! I 👍
I think it's not here because he's not the main character
YES
agree.. i loved that movie the most ! his performance slapped me in the face to become his fan
Those movies weren't around when this was made
How can one forget Jorden Beldort ?
This video was made in 2012, smartass.
So ? I'm jus sayin it in da comments , not insistin that they should've put it in the Video
dhwanit005 the video was made in 2012 the movie was made in 2013
Sly Vredenburg Its TH-cam , anyonecan say any shit
dhwanit005 It's impressive how stupid you can be
Just saw The Wolf of Wall Street...I must rank it in my Top 10, Leo is fucking PHENOMENAL!!
Agreed. *hits chest and sings melody*
MY favorite own by far is “ The Basketball Diaries”. It made me think of life changing experiences and what you caused always comes with an effect
Somebody give this guy an Oscar for fucks sake!!!
This list needs to be updated with The Wolf of Wall street and The Revenant.
Margot Robbie 😍🔥😍🔥
and django unchained
strongwise
Shutter Island and Inception! He is amazing in both of those movies!
I have only seen Inception and Catch Me if You Can, but both of those movies are masterpieces in my eyes.
Ben Tillotson That's a good idea
For me leo was awesome in every movie he gave his best to make his character alive. Such a Legend. Incredible
Leonardo do not need an Oscar to be a legend. His talent and personality are bigger, than Oscar, and the Academymembers, voting against him, must realise this...
when she said " theres more than i pretty face " i was like:
" wait!?! HOW COULD HE BE MORE PERFECT THAN HE ALREADY IS !!!!!"
My favourite is his performance in Basketball Diaries. Blew me away.
But honestly. In every movie he is brilliant.
the wolf of wall street is definitely my favorite but the departed is not far behind
This list needs to be updated because he was incredible in Django Unchained, The Great Gatsby and The Wolf of Wall Street. But yeah, Leo is incredible in every movie.
basketball diaries is like so good fuck bro this guy is a good ass actor
How the fuck does this guy not have an oscar yet?
He has a fear of public speaking so he refuses to be nominated. Incredible actor though.
Karl Snow Is that true?
Yes way!
You'd be surprised by how many actors are shy in real life.
Agreed, but we know he deserves one.
He got a standing applause at the Django premiere.
I still don't understand why he hasn't won an Oscar yet. Incredible character actor.
I agree, Leo is an amazing actor, and this was a good list EXCEPT: you left out This Boy's Life. He was incredible in that! Anyone with me?
I totally agree with you. I'm wondering if lots of people missed that one.
Revolutionary Road was a terrible movie..
Julia Witmer
this movie is an awesome drama.
'You' would
The shutter Island 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥,so underrated
How did Shutter Island not make the list? The ending of that moving is so incredibly gut wrenching and shocking
Blood Diamond was a solid performance.
"This Boy's Life" should be on here. Very underrated performance. He and Deniro go head to head.
Agreed, his performance in What's Eating Gilbert Grape was possibly the best acting I have ever seen, by anyone.
It's really the best list... And the actor is obviously .... The best
